haven't been here for a few days but shouldn't there be an unlocked nexus thread since it'll be released the 17th or did I miss the thread where it's at.

yea but there must be millions of verizon customers! if someone's data isn't spiking i don't see where a red flag would be raised to look any deeper into the person's activity

Our website reporting tools break out traffic into all sorts of categories and one is browser and version. We can tell the difference between mobile and desktop browsers pretty easily.

Of course, this can be spoofed but it is reliable overall for analysis.

I don't think it is a stretch for the providers to be able to watch the traffic and toss up a red flag if IE or any other desktop browser is requesting pages on a wireless device.

Just my 0.02

If Verizon did it that way, I'd be suing them for snooping on my traffic. They aren't allowed to look at the content of the stream. Put simply, they can look at the packets, but not the info in the packets.

You can do that because you have the end user website, and can pull statistics.

However, my understanding is there are identifiable characteristics of packets going to the device, or tethered devices attached. Probably has something to do with the NAT addressing.

right now its minimal actually, they finally finished a couple of big projects along I-40 and I-24

Just wondered. Lol. Lived there from 91-01 and I can't remember at any point in that 10 that you could land that city without hitting construction.

yea, it is basically now to the point that I-40 east and wet of town are 6-7 lanes each way and I-65 north and south of town are the same way, so lots of lanes to choose when going to verizon on launch day haha(my attempt at making this on topic haha)

Browser traffic is just one type of data usage, and in the grand scheme of things it doesn't eat up much bandwidth. The data that a carrier would see wouldn't be user agent strings like what identify browsers. There are ways to analyze data so that an ISP or a proxy can do packet shaping among other things. I just don't know how practical or possible it is for someone like VZW to monitor data in this fashion to definitively say it's PC traffic instead of traffic from the device.

EarlyMon, just out of curiosity, were you using one of those "black market" tethering apps, or one available on the regular market?

But with Sprint going into much deeper debt for Apple, thier subsequent change to charge for tethering, and charge the most out of all the carriers, I'm sure thier past leniency on tethering is over.

You're probably right.

Hey - anyone that can figure out anything Sprint does - really - has got to have Oracle at Delphi powers or something.

Blow off WiMAX 2 in favor of LTE, mid-WiMAX stream. Go guns blazing into front-running Android policies - then sell us all out and cancel our premium memberships (with our yearly upgrades) to accommodate high hopes on the fruit phone, like it's all new and anyone cares to go fruit phone on Sprint.

S. M. H. to the max! :D :D

I'm wondering why this forum doesn't have a european thread up for this nexus up yet

Typical for us to just roll with an intro forum on pre-release, then split off forums for regions / carriers / technology differences so everyone can find the fellow users and support they need, unique to their needs.

Nov 17 is confirmed release in Europe, segregation will probably swing about then, give or take a few days either way.

Popped in here before calling it a night and I find people complaining about having no life on a Fri night. Scroll down and find talk about traffic, before you know it we will be discussing the weather. I am calling it a night before this turns in to a senior citizen center bridge game.

Don't if people are still following p3 but he is talking on twitter about something coming out in three days, "something that is not available to the public"............... what could it possibly be? Release date for our gnex?? Any thoughts?

Idk if they would announce it that far ahead unless it is launching(maybe preorders) on the 10th. Guess we will find out in a few days.

I doubt it's anything related to us. His saying "not available to the public" is probably a hint that he's getting a test device of some sort.

I can't stand his mickey-mousing. If you're going to leak something, leak it. If not, shut up about it.

He's like a 6th grade attention hore saying "Hmm. I've got something in my backpack that you really would want to see."

"Ooh, ooh, what is it!"

"Hmm. Not telling."

Many are frustrated with his cryptic and often inaccurate tweets. If it is not available to the public, wouldn't that include us? Is he talking about something just for himself?

He tweeted earlier that he was going to wait for a Moto phone that was not Bionic, RAZR, or D4. Explain that one?!

Agree if I had info I would get it out there and not make people follow me on twitter or hold out on people. Then again most people who are testers and do have info enjoy being like that since they were probably the kid on the playground doing dumb stuff because they needed attention.

I thought he said it was the d4? I honestly don't care what phone he is waiting for there is always something new coming out every few weeks.
