***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

I decided to try the chat thing too and see if anyone will say something they shouldn't. They did but it wasn't helpful, just stupid. I hope this crap is just what she's heard and not actually in their training materials.

MaryBeth: What key features in a cell phone are most important to you?
me: a nice screen and no lag
me: I hate waiting for a phone to do things
MaryBeth: Currently none of the phones have a lag. The lag comes from the amount of data you have saved on your phone and the amount of data the phone can actually hold.
MaryBeth: Each phone when you first receive and activate it as at its fastest because it has no applications or saved memory
She went on to tell me that she couldn't recommend a phone with a nice screen because they were all nice. If you aren't allowed to express any popular opinions when talking to the customer, then how could you ever suggest a phone? Without popular opinion of which crappy skin is better or which screen is better then don't you just have a pile of identical 4.3" phones?

It's not nearly as bad on the back. I would bother me alot more if they had tried to wedge the logo on the front like they did on the RAZR. Every millimeter of room on the front it is taken up by either screen (ok), soft buttons (ok), or branding (not ok).

Meh, at least on my Bionic I can easily scratch it off :D

All right, so I had a chance to chat with a CSR... I was most displeased...

I asked about the Nexus, she said she hadn't heard of it and didn't have any info about it, but she had some other great options to recommend. She asked me what I was looking for in my phone, so I told her that "my friend" had been "raving" about Ice Cream Sandwich, and I wanted a phone with that on it.

The CSR I got said it wasn't confirmed that Verizon was carrying the phone. I told her that Verizon's own site *said* they were, she went and checked and said "Oh, well I guess we are!". Sigh.

Good morning everyone. Since I had a few minutes free before i started work, I have decided to play this game with a VZW online support as well. I have told the chat lady that I am an ATT customer looking to switch. She asked me what phone I was interested in and I told her SGN. Well, of course she told me that she had no information on when the phone will be released. I told her that I would hate to pay another billing cycle to AT&T if I dont have to, if the phone comes out before the end of the month, but she would not budge. She just provided me with a link for the update. Oh well, I will try again later

From the article posted earlier on ICS:

For some reason that just seems so cool to me. What an intuitive feature, I can't believe more phones / OS haven't had something like this before.

It's already on the Bionic via Blur. Proving more and more ICS takes a lot from other skins (not that that's a bad thing).

They did say that ICS was supposed to make us LOVE our phones - all aspects of them. So it would make sense that they take elements that seem to be the most adored from any of the UI's and add them in.

And honestly after using vanilla (Droid), Blur (Bionic) and now Sense on the Flyer, they all have great things to offer in their own right. The fact that people like to tear them down and say vanilla is "the best" is just tiresome. Although, I have to say a lot of developers make apps that mimic some of their best features (Beautiful Widgets and the widgets on LPP being two of the biggest and ironically two of the most popular apps in the Market ).

I had this feature on my old Treo and loved it. I feel much less "rude" ignoring a call if I can text a quick reason.

Yeah, we aren't going to get anywhere, if it isn't in inventory, when they check for it they are going to get nothing. At that point it is up to the knowledge of that individual CSR to determine what info you get. Unfortunately most are just in it for the paycheck, and don't know much about phones except what they are given by management.

VZW Rep: Hello. Thank you for visiting our chat service. May I help you with your order today?
You: Yes, I am interesting in switching over to Verizon for the 4G LTE speeds on your network, and I am coming from ATT with the Samsung Galaxy S2 and really wanted something similar. Something with an HD display, something fast, and preferably Samsung and was wondering what you had in mind.
VZW Rep: We offer 2 4G phones that are samsung the Droid Charge and the Samsung Stratosphere.
You: Yeah I have heard of both. I know the Charge is a bit dated, and the Stratosphere has a hard keyboard which I am also not looking at. Do you have any info on future upcoming phones that may suit my needs?
VZW Rep: No I'm sorry we don't have information on the new phones at this time I do apologize.
You: Ok then, thank you for your time

Their lips are sealed...I tried.

They're just more cagey at being cagey about it.:D

Wow..that looks worse than when my DINC fell out of my pocket and I proceeded to run over it twice and then leave it out on a stormy October night (last year). In the process, I am convinced a dear tried eating it, as it had what looked like teeth marks on it when I found it the next morning.

Good luck with that...it is a truly awful situation to be in. Luckily I had insurance.*

-Nkk

*I know insurance was debated here, but I have to say that (for me, personally, IMHO, I think, etc) it is worth it. It is a bit expensive, but being able to submit a claim online and have the phone in my hand by 9am the next day is worth it. Even if I use it once (that is the only time I have used it), the convenience was so nice. I went on with my life as usual, and my phone appeared as soon as possible.

Yeah, I always get insurance on my phones... and I've used it several times. Once because it got destroyed in a motorcycle accident, another cause it got wet on a boat, once becuase someone stole it at work.... and a couple more..
Unfortunately my girlfriend doesn't have insurance and is SOL. I'd gladly give her my Droid X if Verizon would finally take my money and give me the Galaxy Nexus.

That was the first time I got sniped. It didn't happen again so I just did the chat button route.

UPDATE:

So the second CSR tells me that the Nexus will not be available before the 22nd, but I highly suspect he was lying in order to get a sale. Also, I highly suspect he is an idiot. He asked me some questions about what I want in a phone, and I responded thinness, HD screen, no hard keyboard. And what does he recommend?

A Bionic.

All right, so I had a chance to chat with a CSR... I was most displeased...

Response: "I'm unsure of what the "ice cream sandwich" feature is."

So there you have it, folks. Either they're playing dumb, or they simply have not been told anything at all or recently read anything related to their field whatsoever

I got the same crap yesterday over the phone. 2 of the 3 CSRs I talked to acted like they had never heard of the phone and one told me that usually when they had press conferences to announce phones and then PR release it was another couple of months before they release the phone.

I decided to try the chat thing too and see if anyone will say something they shouldn't. They did but it wasn't helpful, just stupid. I hope this crap is just what she's heard and not actually in their training materials.

Thanks to everyone testing the waters!

Yeah so...I couldn't stay away from the madness for a week like I originally planned. Who am I kidding really, couldn't resist the urge to check back in and I'm lol'ing at the secret agent infiltration efforts. Love it.

I think this might confirm 1750 mah on verizon version

Nexus Prime i515 Standard Battery 1750 mAH

Edit: Also, why is Near Field Communication written on the battery? Isn't that part of the main circuitry?

Interesting. If the battery is not different then what is the one "tweaked spec" (according to source) the VZW versions will be getting?

Edit: I guess the 32GB storage option?

OK,
I'm NOT trying to get everyone's hopes up. I know what the Samsung page says (1750mAh), but here is the pic of the battery next to thier text. It does say NFC on it, so the picture is either from the i515 battery, like inteneded, or is another battery from a phone not yet released with NFC.

But here's the kicker. 7.77Wh @ 3.7V isn't a 1750mAh battery. Nor is it 1850mAh.

Folks, you're looking at a 2100mAh battery!!!!!

Let's not get too excited yet, as we all know how companies use stock photos. But with all the secrecy surrounding this handset, it wouldn't surprise me to see them sneak this in. Also, I don't know of any other Samsung handset that has NFC, and a battery that large.

Fingers crossed.....big time.

Edit: For reference, the GSM GNex battery is 6.48Wh. This is looking GOOD!!!

Oh, he said stop LURKING, not stop LURCHING. Whew! For a moment, I was afraid I wouldn't be able to do my G Nex happy dance later. A happy welcome to the family to all the former lurkers and recent newbies! :) Everybody do The Lurch!

Aren't most of these chat services outsourced to places like India anyway? The only things they would know are things that are readily available on the site anyway.
