.:Official Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Thread:.

i ended up getting it for PS3 since my 360 is never hooked up. hopefully that wasn't a mistake. (didn't research any of the differences before hand)

only been playing a few hours but I am in love with this game again, me and my GF spent a good hour creating a character ( we weren't exactly sober), the character models during the creation is unbelievably real looking.

So far my only complaint has been the sound effects, they just sound too fake and stereotypical, especially when swinging a sword IMO. I'll be able to give it a better chance tonight, and no work tomorow!

10/10 I'd say. Sure there are minor issues (a lot that will probably be fixed with patches or mods for pc)

My PC can't handle it so I 'settled' for the 360 version. I put that in quotes because it is by no means a "settle". It's a perfectly great game. I'll give a spoiler free example...

I am playing a thief character, breaking into homes late at night, picking pockets and locks. After robbing everyone in a city (besides a couple of people who I had "befriended" ((not really, just I like these people)) ), well, the next day there are some hired thugs roaming the streets. Turns out they are looking for me... A huge battle ensues in the town square, and a couple of innocent people rush to may aid (I am a Nord, they are Nords, it makes sense). Sadly, the town folk die, but they died in battle, for me, a fellow Nord. I reloaded my save because I didn't want their deaths on my conscious.

I also found a choose your own adventure book in the game that was racist against High Elves! Best game ever!

amazing.... i love it and i havent even played it... my brother said it was kinda fallout
+ dragons. true?

So, opinions? Im super interested

The Awesome:

It's kinda like Morrowind (with its number of quests, questlines, and just odd stuff you can do) + an updated Oblivion engine + snow.

No one is pretty. The terrain is really, really rough. Daedric shrines should be called daedric monuments, because they're gigantic. There is virtually zero copy/paste buildings. Almost everything is unique. The attention to detail is uncanny.

The lame:

The dragons suck. They look cool, but I fear sabre toothed tigers more than dragons. After a volley, they'll fly around in circles (out of range of arrows) for a good 30 seconds, and then attack your horse. Also, all of the male NPCs sound like Arnold Schwar...however he spells that name.

I have the PS3 version so im not sure if this is an issue on the 360 version, but I've just broken 20hours of gameplay and 6MB save data size, and now my game is about 10x worse than gt5 as far as loading is concerned. It's to the point where i basically have to start the game load my file and wait 30minutes for it to load my file and be playable with out major lag. but once it's going its fine.

but sicne I've put some more time in, thats really my only complaint, whenever something bugs me I find a way around it and it gets better. Except dragons, their too underwhelming, unless theres other enemies.

and finally my best skyrim moment so far. I was walking around the map just roaming around seeing if I can find anything really cool. Stumble upon a giants camp and decide to rush in. Normally I don't have too big of an issue with giants I just kite them with my bow, didn't work as well this time. While kiting apparently a a family of mammoths roamed by as well, accidently aggroed them so now im fighting two giants and a family of mammoths. Giant stomps me and I go flying, dragon comes out of no where and attacks me mid air and I get killed. took a good 5 minutes to fully comprehend WTF had just happened, I believe that was my first death too:(

Yeah, I heard about that bug with saved games over 5/6MB. I think it's just the ps3, but I'm not sure. Hopefully that's one of the first things they patch.

Wasn't there a similar bug for New Vegas on the PS3? I'd a guy at work constantly whinging about it, but the 360 version was fine.

Having looked at trailers, reviews and some of the comments in this thread, this is 100% def on the Xmas list now.

I've just gotten into it and I cannot believe just how expansive this world is.

I'm getting fed up trying to figure out side quests though - I have so many of them!

It doesn't help that I don't have a lot of time to play either

Do you mean the 'misc' quests or the actual side quests (like Thieves guild, Dark Brotherhood, etc)? Or both?

Because if you only play 3 hours or less a day and insist on doing all the major side quest lines like I do before doing the main one, this game will easily last you a month.

I can see why it took them so long to make Skyrim since Oblivion (well, factoring in FO3 and FO3: NV). Bethesda just raised the bar...significantly.

Mega false.
Thank god
<--- still cant stand Fallout

yup slim PS3, other than the long start it's not an issue, and if I dont want to wait I can get into playing sooner but it lags consistantly for about an hour, so I just find it better to load it and let it sit for a bit. it's been giving me a great chance to try out new roms while waiting

We like to call that the WTFBBQPWNSAUCE.

I have just been exploring random dungeons I run in to. What happens if you clear one out before you actually get the quest to go there?

Looks like it's a PS3 only bug: PS3 Gamers: Are You Having Skyrim Issues? - PlayStation 3 Feature at IGN
