***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

Under the cover of darkness I am off....

I'm heading to my local Verizon corporate store. I'm gonna look for any signs of the Verizon galaxy nexus. signs, announcments, posters, launch material of any kind, etc. If nothing is found ill take the long way home, and see if anything is shaking at the local authorized retailer...

If I got anything good ill post pics...

Wish me luck and give me thanks. My wife is mad I'm leaving her alone at the house for this stupid venture. :o I assume nothing will be scooped by me on my 10pm run...

But you never know..

Either way ill rreport back.. wish me luck.:D

I'll be listening to the BG PD for any calls regarding a suspicious person at the verizon store.

So before he went dark Panda mentioned that the device is essentially "no longer a Nexus device" "thanks to Verizon". I assume this statement is because of My Verizon and Backup Assistant apps. As I understand it, the My Verizon app is more than just an apk and is tied closely to the device OS. So with that being true I see no way that it's possible Google could release updates directly for the LTE Nexus....meaning we have to wait for Verizon's tortoise-like update release schedule (Froyo phones just now getting Gingerbread a year later). What does everyone think of this? Does this deter your interest at all? I know it does for me and if I didn't think that this phone also had superior hardware I'd go elsewhere.

He also inferred (in the form of an open-ended question) that Verizon changed the specs to 16 GB to save money on their end yet they still plan to charge teh same amount for the device as originally planned? This is quite a deterrant and really chaps my *** but again there is not a better alternative in the near future.

Finally, his final remarks on the release date were essentially that he would not bet on Verizon sticking to any release date that they (or anyone else for that matter) had planned on until the phones are in the store. So it sounds like the device has been ready for some time now but Verizon is just sitting on it (or struggling to integrate their carrier apps as Panda also mentioned).

So what I take from all of this is that Verizon is truly an "evil empire" and are really only concerned about quarterly earnings and stock values. They don't get excited about technology or phones like we do...and they really don't care about putting out the best possible product and doing it quickly....their decisions and motives seem to be based solely on what is going to give them the best bottom line number at the end of Q4....and to them that is selling as many Razrs and Rezounds as possible until they have to finally release the Nexus. They KNOW the Nexus sales are not going to suffer as a result and they don't really care anyway. All they care about are the total number of contracts and that's probably not changing much as a result of these delays. They know that there's nothing coming out on another carrier that is going to steal the thunder of the Galaxy Nexus so they are in no hurry....and they are going to release it on their terms (VZW apps, locked, updates through VZW) because Google screwed up and left VZW holding all of the cards in this exclusivity agreement.

Like Panda mentioned, our indication of a release shoudl be based solely on when stock actually arrives in the stores or an official VZW announcement because any dates set internally at this point are still subject to change. I just wish Google would have thought out this contract a little more before signing it instead of giving VZW all of the power...that's the one mistake they made with the Nexus and they are paying for it dearly. Like others have said, this could have been their iPhone.

Hate to be naive, but I have been working all weekend, so I'm a bit behind, but who is this Panda guy, and where are people seeing what he said? Is he on Twitter or here on AF?

One of the many reasons this thread is so much fun is because there is quite a diverse age range of contributors adding their own unique perspectives! From scottg96 who is 15? to OTD who is 2000 years old (because he sleeps in a coffin). Moral of the story, Verizon you can't ask for a better demographic for a phone to target, release it already!

Excuse me??!?!?!? I will have you know that I am nowhere near 2000 years old! You're not supposed to ask a lady her age anyway, but I will go as far as to say that I am not a day over 160 thank you very much.

<------Storms off
2000 years old. Good grief. The nerve of some people. Is he trying to say I'm old or something? Just because I'm immortal doesn't mean I want people thinking I've been around since the cave men.....

I don't care all that much if VZW adds a couple of branded applications, nor am I worried too much that this will mean the GNex gets updates on a VZW schedule, instead of the Google Nexus schedule.

Why?

Because I'm sure I'll enjoy ICS, as delivered for just about long enough for Cyanogen Mod 9 to roll out. Unlocked bootloader FTW!

You have a point!

I don't think it is the my verizon app cause you can get that in the market. That is just a normal app. But the backup assistant I think might be baked in somehow cause that is not a market app. (not sure someone else could probably answer that better than me) But that is what bothers me. I wanted the Nexus for the google experience and update straight from GOOGLE. And if the backup assistant is somehow baked in(?), Verizon will have to make sure it plays nice with googles updates. I hope I'm wrong but that to me would take away from the whole Nexus name just as Panda tweeted b4 he went underground.

I forget where in this thread I read it exactly but a day or two ago somebody was talking about how Verizon was trying to make the BackupAssistant App a lot more than just for contacts and they were having trouble getting it to work right with ICS, and if that was the case would it interfere with us getting updates directly from Google without Verizon messing around with them for 9 months. I'll try to find where I read that but with all these posts I don't know if I can lol

Dangit, it isn't even that busy in here and I still get ninja'd

Yes I do understand that but there are many companies out there (mine for one) that truly do believe in doing things "the right way"....putting service and satisfied customers first and profits will follow. Also many companies truly do get excited about releaseing ground-breaking technology that draws the attention of the world and blows the status quo out of the water (look at Apple). I think Verizon is just too big to care about tehse things anymore and they are mor a communications company than a technology company....sad really.

I want to have a non-profit wireless company!:D

I guess I have the same interest level in the GPS as Of The Damned.

Working out of the base area of greater Atlanta and most of the state I live & die by my OG Droid's navigation.

Other than call quality I will be focusing on and reporting my experience with navigation and the external audio & vibration levels.

Like the chief, I am locked onto the the wait, but am numb as to when to expect it.

Speaking for Verizon's coverage and reliability, as backups I keep a dash mounted GPS and MS Streets & Trips on a laptop with a USB GPS but NEVER need it.

This assumes that you view them in a negative light. If you don't use a pessimistic view here you could assume "No they would not sell a reduced spec phone for a premium price."

You've said what I said a few days ago, but in a much more aggressive manner. AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, these companies don't want to be your friend either. At the end of the quarter/year all 4 of these companies are judged on the bottom line and that is how they run their business. Your fooling yourself if you think otherwise imho.

Ill say it again, Verizon doesn't care what phone you have as long as you sign a contract and activate a data plan. Someone brought up the point of "bloatware" making them perfer to sell one phone over another. Losing $201 dollars or $200 dollars on a sale is a trivial matter for them as long as they get a contract out of it.

All these posts in this thread, but really how many individual users do we have here? A few thousand? If every one of us boycotted Verizon, and did not buy a Galaxy Nexus, they wouldn't even notice you. Its nice to bang your shield with righteous indignation, but its just misplaced frustration. (They would still sell a many a Galaxy Nexus and most people would be none the wiser. I've got the disease, just like the rest of you, reading tech forums, reading this forum etc. Unfortunately (fortunately?! lol) we are not the norm. Most people don't know, don't care, and when they do see a release date will think "Holy crap, going to go get me one of those!")

Trust me, Verizon doesn't hate you, they aren't out to get you, but they aren't going to be the best man at your wedding ... unless you pay them.

To blame them for information that they neither published nor disseminated is silly.

I can almost guarantee that there will be a way around that if that is true

Truly laughed at that. Cause I picture this sexy as hell vampiress stomping her feet and muttering.
