I just looked over and saw how many posts I had.

Can't believe I joined over here when I got my OG Droid, but never posted until this thread and I'm now in the top 15 posters of this thread.

Just wanted to say thanks for keeping me entertained so long!

Yeah I too am a little shocked at the number of posts I have in this thread.

Time flies, eh?
How do you check the top posters in a thread?

I dont fully understand the difference buti just plugged mine in, opened the folder and dropped my music in like I normally do...

Question about adb. Does it work the same as with previous android devices? Have you tried adb shell yet, etc?

naive question here (i'm new as well). wouldn't the phone passing through the FCC mean that it does not have the issue here in the states? i would think having sufficient RF screening would be important to them

I would think so yes.

I currently have an OG Droid with a camera that won't focus without a slam to a table.

Talk me out of switching to AT&T and getting the Samsung Galaxy SII through Amazon's 1 cent sale.... or waiting for Verizon to release the Nexus for $299.

I would lose unlimited data on VZW, but I rarely go over 1GB per month on 3G.

I'm in a VZW 4G area, but AT&T's 3G speed is plenty fast.

I've got the thing in my Amazon cart and am trying to think of a reason not to do it.

Talk you out of the GNex? No can do. That's your decision to make. I will tell you that I'm not all that thrilled with Verizon's 3g speeds, and I live smack in the middle of the Twin Cities metro area (Mps, St Paul). With my OG droid, I don't even bother clicking on embedded links in twitter, as these usually hang, load part way, or take FOREVER to load. 4G for me, please. (Oh, and I am running CM7, clocked to 800 mHz).

I'm grandfathered in to the unlimited, and from the speeds people claim, I can see myself watching a LOT more video on this GNex. I can also see myself downloading torrents and playing the files on an HD tv, via MHL. Google music? Not yet, but I'll start uploading when I get the GNex.

Bandwidth requirements are only going in one direction. Up. What you use for bandwidth today may not bear much on what you'll want to use tomorrow. Faster speeds beget heavier data use.

Not that I have an SGN, but it should.

Nothing in the SDK tools indicated that anything about ADB has changed in ICS.

Just my $0.02 though and based on guessing and reviewing documentation.

with a USB cable?? did it show up as an "external drive" on your PC??

that's strange... the Google people have been saying that mass USB storage wouldn't work, in the traditional sense, because it's all internal memory without any partitions. but, if you are getting it to work like it "normally" does, that is fantastic!!

here's a link to what the Google people had to say about mass USB storage, and why it wouldn't work in the traditional sense with the GNex: http://www.droid-life.com/2011/11/1...dafone-still-testing-and-no-usb-mass-storage/

at the very low level of hardware, the contacts have to connect for so many cpu cycles before a button press is registered. At least that's how it was in my EE classes in College. This is needed be cause contacts aren't perfectly flat at the microscopic level, and without using a "Clock cycles to register" mechanism, there would be a ton of phantom "button Presses" when pressing a button.

It's possible that modifying some of these settings in the firmware could solve it, but either way. I'm not too thrilled about it.

Hope that makes sense. It does to me...but I wrote it :)

I get what you are saying. Seemingly the volume change is being made through some sorta signal that can be introduced to the circuits through external radio interference. My point is that it's hard to say if that signal is hard coded or modifiable through firmware. It is definitely odd though that the radio signal from a totally different nearby phone could mess with the volume though.

Pretty sure no one's posted this yet, but...

I BRING GOOD NEWS! (as I usually do):

SIM free Galaxy Nexus shipping in UK on Nov. 22 | Android Central
Furthermore, they also claim that their batch are not subject to the EDGE/volume bug, having had an "additional quality control check." That much remains to be seen, but if you've pre-ordered the Nexus, expect something special in the mail anytime now.

Well this could very well be the case with Verizon. So much for all your pessimism :P

Here are 4S speeds on AT&T, Sprint and Verizon -- they are not 4G speeds by any means.

That may be what the numbers show, but my iP4 was on VZW and my iP4s on AT&T. I used them side-by-side for 10 days or so. There wasn't a detectable difference in page loads or email push -- and believe me, I tried to find one.

An open question to the subsect of those posting who have a relatively recent phone as opposed to those that are sitting on dying OG droids and INCs. As this release is pushed back due to rumored techincal problems and we get closer to CES 2012, rumblings are already begining. With rumors for upcoming quadcore 720p phones begining to surface at what point if any would you decide to hold on your Gnex purchase and shift your attention/dollars/madness to one of these potential devices.

For myself I wont wait.. my verizon contract is expiring mid next month and my ability to get my hands on an import vs the eventual verzon release will decide how I get the phone. I really don't think I would want to go with an non nexus phone because while it is possible to predict OEM/carrier updates(way behind the curve) it is impossible to predict the amount of dev support a device may get and thus the quality and frequency of rom releases. Not to mention some times those rom releases are dependent on getting things from the official releases if the devs cant get something working properly in an update.
I'm not going to wait unless the GNex gets delayed to the point that far superior phones are already in the market by the time it's availalbe.

There's always something better coming out. If you're are one of those folks who's always waiting for the next best thing, you'll always be waiting. All you can do is get what's best for you when you need it.

Edit: As I read what I just wrote, I reflect on the irony surrounding the fact that I'm waiting on the GNex even though I've needed a new phone for months. Oh well.

Edit 2: Reading comprehension > Me. Yeah, if I had a relatively recent phone, I wouldn't even be in this thread. I'm here because I need a phone now.

Please see this thread regarding USB Mass Storage -- on Windows you will not notice a difference between this phone and any other Android phone that came before it.

You will see difficulties with MTP/PTP on OSX/Linux though although there are tons of threads that seem to solve these issues over at XDA and the like.
