Me too

Please pass along our thanks and if appropriate, I have a question for him (or you).

Would it be possible to get the HTC ordering of those buttons as some sort of option (or a changed SystemUI.apk)?

I've never liked Samsung's ordering to begin with, HTC seems more rational to me (home, menu, back, search) and I hate having to re-groove my mind when switching phones, I really do.

Owning multiple Androids with two different button orders is not what I want. While my preference may be considered wrong by others, it's what I like and I just want to use the UI, not stop and think about it every time I change phones.

This may be my second phone (business), I'm keeping my HTC for personal use (3 working HTCs in the house, they're not going away), so going back and forth will be a daily occurrence for me.

Cheers and many thanks for the info! :)

I'm glad you thought to ask. I always forget that with the devs for android damn near anything can be done

If I have unlimited data on my tb, will i get to keep it when getting the gn?

Yes.

Sure. Like my grandma almost signing up for Carbonite because the link came pre-installed on her computer....

...but...does Verizon now include links to paid apps or something? I still don't get the link between bloat and income for Verizon. Some kind of click-thru ad revenue from "partner" apps, maybe?

A number of the bloat apps are a monthly fee. I am not sure about ad revenue, but when you click and sign up for CityID for example, you get a $1.99 charge on your bill every month. The grandma example is a great one!

Verizon is never going to get a Nexus exclusive again because of all this BS. I'm on Verizon but would be happier if all carriers were releasing this phone (especially AT&T with an LTE version). They wouldn't get away with this silent treatment in fear of losing customers. I'm sure Samsung and Google aren't very happy with vzw. If AT&T treated the Iphone this way, when it was exclusive, I'm sure Jobs would have laid the smack down.
Funny, but there are absolutely no idications of either Samsung or Google being upset with Verizon.

An executive commenting it should be out in Nov doesn't count.

As Steven just mentioned, money sooths all hard feelings pretty quick. If this is a huge success, you can bet you'll see Nexus models on Verizon again.

How do you have an account to "note" before signing up for a plan?

I signed the whole family up already w/ new phones since our contract w/ AT&T ended a month ago. Daughter has been complaining about her phone for months now so got tired of listening to it. I am just holding out for the Gnex the other 4 members have their phones and peace has returned to the home again.

Was waiting for someone to catch that....nice catch. ;)

Guys/Gals,
Sidebar question and I'm sorry to ask, but you all feel like strange family members (haha) so I trust your responses better...
The wife and I are going to buy a tablet for the family for XMAS and we were thinking the ASUS, but I want the latest and greatest to future-proof it. Is the Transformer Prime the newest?...the one that is like $500? That can't be right, right? Thanks in advance.

Well, I do believe you are right, but the bright side is, there will probably be another Nexus down the road, and we will be able to verify it. If Verizon gets another one, then either their offenses in Google's eyes weren't that significant, and/or Google wised up and has a much more ironclad contract. I think this phone is going to sell like hotcakes on Verizon, and Google won't be able to ignore that. But yes, if Verizon bent the contract terms just short of breaking with this phone, no way they ever get another exclusive, and perhaps no way they get another one period...

Wow, a glowing review. From BGR. Here is my summary of reading between the lines:

"Still not as easy as iOS to learn, and I am used to holding a 3.5" screen phone, but otherwise this phone is better than the iPhone, in just about every way."

(When fanboys say its comparable to the iPhone, you need to read it as: "Crap, its better".)

I like how he said the screen was great about as good at the Iphone display... You mean the display with almost the same pixels and an inch smaller?

Long time lurker first time posting. For what its worth, I just left Verizon after asking a sales associate a plethora of questions reguarding a purchace and possible return of the 4s for the Gnex when it is launched. After answering all my questions, the rep walked away, then returned a few moments later to tell me to save myself the hassle they have a ton of Gnex accessories in the back. I know that accessories being in stock is old news, but the tone in which he said save myself the hassle, was enough to convience me he knew something and to not to bother with the iphone.

Almost all "bloatware" is there by default to allow you to buy more.

The NFS, Madden or other game trials are there to entice you to buy the full game. Blockbuster is there to get you to buy into thier service. VZNavigator, CityID, etc. However, for all of them to get on the phone (except Verizon apps), the companies pay Verizon money. Not unlike when you buy a new Dell and it's loaded up with crap. They aren't doing that because they want to, it's because they are getting paid to put it on there.

Bloat on a phone is especially eggregious, as you can't remove most of it (non-rooted).

They get paid just for putting the apps on the phones from the companies, for example Blockbuster, NFL, and Bing.

Ninja'd by a Guide. Not so bad ;)

Thanks nismo and welcome here. I'm convinced too :)

Actually there really is no "triggers" per se. They have had a pre-determined time-frame of running their ads for the RAZR and Rezound and releasing new product.

For example and I'll just use made up dates and times: From November 1-December 7th the advertising campaign takes place for whatever devices they are pushing for the holiday season. Part of their campaign designates that no new smartphones will be released during that time and new launches will take place 1 week after the ad campaign has run it's course.

So it doesn't matter if they sell 1 or 1 million. RAZR and Rezound could sell 45 million or 45 units AFTER the ad campaign and they would still introduce a new handset. They stage releases according to a set schedule not by sales figures. These things are planned well ahead of time and they don't waver from it unless problems arise. This is how it was explained to me.

Just look at the Bionic debacle. That delay wasn't going to effect the RAZR launch thus the 2 months later RAZR release. They were not worried about ravaging Bionic sales. Things are on a tight schedule and they don't hold up devices intentionally.

I hope that makes sense..............

CK,

Thanks for the information. It makes sense from the perspective that it's how cell phone companies make decisions - or at least how this one does. I find it to be an unusual business model for a variety of reasons, however, none of which the readers of this forum give a rat's you know what about. Thanks for the feedback...

Edit: Which points to there being a pre-determined date in the mind of the execs at Verizon for Nexus release, regardless of sales. From the point above, I assume the "example" above of Nov 1 - December 7 is slightly more...:) I'm hoping 12/8 is the date.

So, right now the wife is on Verizon and I will be adding a line to her acct... That means I just need her to sweet talk them and say her husband is driving her insane.. and get them to flag the acct for this. Could you PM me how you went about it, if there is anything to add to your original post? Thanks!

The GNex actually has a lot more pixels. They both have similar pixel density though.

I'm not going to take away anything from the iPhones' screen. It is very nice, and all things equal, I probably would have preferred a 720p IPS non-pentile display.

Thanks for joining us publicly.
I love how our family has grown so much lately.

Welcome to the nuthouse! Thanks for the intel report. Yeah accessories went out, I believe because the original plan was for release around now. It has been pushed back so those accessories are just sitting there, and will be for a while it looks like (But like I said this morning, another reason why if VZW execs change their mind, these phones can be in the wild quickly).

I wouldn't expect to hear anything official about samsung/google being disappointed before the phone releases, companies don't start open flame wars with people they are in business with, especially a business that controls so much of the cell market

although we have heard from bmx that he wishes google.com/phone was back....that's about as official as you're going to get

we may see nexus models on verizon again, but i doubt that verizon would get an exclusive
