Han, any word from your sister on any developments?

Unfortunately not. I do want to say, though, that I appreciated the bunches of PM's asking me to either let them know what she says or to just post it on here.

So I'll just continue posting what I get. But no, nothing today so far.

Isn't that Verizon's own stupid mistake for getting into bed with Motorola and the Droid branding?

Yes. But realistically, the concepts of the RAZR (thinnest 4G smartphone + iconic brand) and the HTC Device (first 720p screen released) were actually very good ideas, at least on paper.

If it wasn't for the SGN, I don't think their sales would be as crappy.

I also see why they couldn't release the SGN before the other 2. Can you imagine releasing an ICS phone, and then going backwards? Wouldn't make sense.

I think everything that's going on is a combination of just really bad timing and unrealistic expectations regarding the other 2 phones.

Not bad, more than most of us are getting. Interesting if it can be confirmed if double data is lasting through december. I know some people are anxious about that, and with the GNex confirmed to come before January, would easy people's fears about it.

Put my mind at ease. Now I can just wait, continue to use my iPhone and be patient until 12/30 when the Gnex is released.

Excellent question.

I talked to a CSR on the phone a week ago explained I was coming from AT&T but waiting for the GNex and my concern of the double data deal ending before it was released. She noted in my account they would honor the double data deal if that was the case. I am naturally skeptical so I called again today to make sure that was noted in my account and it was confirmed but then the CSR added 'you really don't have to worry the GNex will be released before that promo ends'. I of course then had to ask, 'oh I heard the promo was ending 11/30 so the Gnex is coming out before then?' her response 'chuckle, no the promo is running through December and yes the Gnex is coming out very soon but we are not allowed to say when until it is 'official''.

I tried....

Instead of the "rental" route, I was also thinking of doing this...All I really want is a Nexus with double the data. If they can notate my account with that promise, I may end up getting 2!

By default, no.

But I will look through the file tonight and see if I can find a way to get rid of it. I'll ping Paul and see if he can find a way to get rid of it as well.

Not sure what the Search button actually does right now though since I don't have a device to test it with.

Please pass along our thanks and if appropriate, I have a question for him (or you).

Would it be possible to get the HTC ordering of those buttons as some sort of option (or a changed SystemUI.apk)?

I've never liked Samsung's ordering to begin with, HTC seems more rational to me (home, menu, back, search) and I hate having to re-groove my mind when switching phones, I really do.

Owning multiple Androids with two different button orders is not what I want. While my preference may be considered wrong by others, it's what I like and I just want to use the UI, not stop and think about it every time I change phones.

This may be my second phone (business), I'm keeping my HTC for personal use (3 working HTCs in the house, they're not going away), so going back and forth will be a daily occurrence for me.

Cheers and many thanks for the info! :)

FWIW...Warning: P3Droid twitter stuff this morning:

MyDroidWorld.com posted those e-mail documents that place the GNex release on Dec. 8th.

PydePypper( I believe a TBH member) tweeted in response:
P3Droid tweeted:
P3Droid also tweeted earlier that he couldn't believe it would have been six weeks before the public gets their hands on the GNex. He got his Nexus two weeks ago...

They could be still trolling like they were yesterday but would it surprise anyone if they pushed off the release yet again to 12/15?

I wonder if that was before or after he RickRolled everyone. How can he expect anyone to take him seriously after that. It was funny....TWO YEARS AGO! Now, it's just annoying, and so is the Windsock.

Verizon is never going to get a Nexus exclusive again because of all this BS. I'm on Verizon but would be happier if all carriers were releasing this phone (especially AT&T with an LTE version). They wouldn't get away with this silent treatment in fear of losing customers. I'm sure Samsung and Google aren't very happy with vzw. If AT&T treated the Iphone this way, when it was exclusive, I'm sure Jobs would have laid the smack down.

+1 on this! I love using my GF's Nexus S, but the button order always gives me a brain fart because I have a DInc :)

I agree with this. Bugs get worked out over OTA updates. However, I think it's very plausible, if not outright likely, that they have preset sales figures that need to be achieved before they release the Nexus (because they don't make as much money on bloat - for those of you inclined to say that a phone is a phone is a phone...I know you're out there). I don't know what that metric is, but I'd bet good money that one exists that "triggers" for lack of a better word the release of the Nexus. If they haven't hit those targets, there's zero chance it comes out black Friday weekend. Or the 8th for that matter.

Only part I'd disagree with is that I don't think the Love Tunnel is close enough to the decision makers to actually offer insightful information, but that's just my opinion.
Actually there really is no "triggers" per se. They have had a pre-determined time-frame of running their ads for the RAZR and Rezound and releasing new product.

For example and I'll just use made up dates and times: From November 1-December 7th the advertising campaign takes place for whatever devices they are pushing for the holiday season. Part of their campaign designates that no new smartphones will be released during that time and new launches will take place 1 week after the ad campaign has run it's course.

So it doesn't matter if they sell 1 or 1 million. RAZR and Rezound could sell 45 million or 45 units AFTER the ad campaign and they would still introduce a new handset. They stage releases according to a set schedule not by sales figures. These things are planned well ahead of time and they don't waver from it unless problems arise. This is how it was explained to me.

Just look at the Bionic debacle. That delay wasn't going to effect the RAZR launch thus the 2 months later RAZR release. They were not worried about ravaging Bionic sales. Things are on a tight schedule and they don't hold up devices intentionally.

I hope that makes sense..............

How do you have an account to "note" before signing up for a plan?

If Verizon didn't have exclusivity in the US, this would not be happening, plain and simple. They would not let AT&T jump the gun on them and release it even a single day in advance of them. If the phone has small bugs, then it's on Samsung and Google, not Verizon and they know that. This has nothing to do with small bugs. It has everything to do with exclusivity and the Droid branded Razr.

If Verizon didn't have exclusivity I bet this thing would have been release weeks ago. But because they have an exclusivity period they are just dragging their heels.

Edit: Dang I got Ninja'd!

Excellent request! I know I will use this too if its possible, With 18 months of solid HTC usage.

Welcome to MY world.

If I have unlimited data on my tb, will i get to keep it when getting the gn?

yes

Not so...if it makes money, which it will, vzw will get it again.

That would be awesome. Its the only thing I am even worried about.
This is a huge concern of mine as well so much so that I called a Verizon rep last night and asked him the expiration date of the offer. He went on his PC to look it up, and had to admit he could not find any end date for it. I know I once saw it ending on November 30th. Could it be they have left the date open?

Yes, if your upgrading from the TB to the GN.

there are some exceptions if your trying to do something unusual, like use "add-a-line" and transfer the phone over(depending on how you do it)

But a straight upgrade should be fine. (its what I'm doing from a Dinc.)
