***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

BMX just retweeted a tweet from Negrielectronics about out a Nexus giveaway. One of their earlier tweets said they had tracking information on their first GN shipment. I'm in the car... Anyone want to check it out?

Heres the tweet: Ladies and Gentleman we have Tracking for our first batch of #GalaxyNexus!! 11/25 delivery. That means shipping out to you same day!

doesnt mention if its a LTE shipment or GSM...

Actually there really is no "triggers" per se. They have had a pre-determined time-frame of running their ads for the RAZR and Rezound and releasing new product.

For example and I'll just use made up dates and times: From November 1-December 7th the advertising campaign takes place for whatever devices they are pushing for the holiday season. Part of their campaign designates that no new smartphones will be released during that time and new launches will take place 1 week after the ad campaign has run it's course.

So it doesn't matter if they sell 1 or 1 million. RAZR and Rezound could sell 45 million or 45 units AFTER the ad campaign and they would still introduce a new handset. They stage releases according to a set schedule not by sales figures. These things are planned well ahead of time and they don't waver from it unless problems arise. This is how it was explained to me.

Just look at the Bionic debacle. That delay wasn't going to effect the RAZR launch thus the 2 months later RAZR release. They were not worried about ravaging Bionic sales. Things are on a tight schedule and they don't hold up devices intentionally.

I hope that makes sense..............

Umm, yes they would to allow for the marketing to occur assuming this is correct. As you stated they have a predetermined marketing plan and if the phone/GNex is available earlier than when they have allotted marketing for it, then they would hold the device back to meet the predetermined marketing plan.

some more bad news......that sucks i figured out how to do all of that stuff on these forums ;(

Fret not, this is the internet and there will be plenty of info out there on how to do it. I haven't done it and I know how by just wandering around aimlessly reading things in general about rooting. :p

Yep, Verizon is still the largest carrier in the US. And they do sell more Android phones, so that's where the money is.

In the future, since all carriers will eventually go LTE, it is a possibility that we'll see some handsets that will become universal. Right now, that's dificult with either GSM or CDMA fallback, but in the future it could happen.

Interesting thought. LTE is actually evolution of GSM 3G technology HSPA. So hand off between HSPA+ and LTE is smoother than with CDMA. Unfortunately AT&T deployment of LTE is dismal compared to Verizon and it will take years for them to be close to where verizon is.

But I can see everyone is on LTE and ditching 3G in several years. Then phone makers can produce just universal device that can work with any carrier, assuming LTE radio chip will have multiple frequency bands support.

I wouldn't expect to hear anything official about samsung/google being disappointed before the phone releases, companies don't start open flame wars with people they are in business with, especially a business that controls so much of the cell market

although we have heard from bmx that he wishes google.com/phone was back....that's about as official as you're going to get

we may see nexus models on verizon again, but i doubt that verizon would get an exclusive
BMX also tweeted that the delay was the result of all parties, including Google.

So take that for what it's worth.

Isn't that Verizon's own stupid mistake for getting into bed with Motorola and the Droid branding?
I thought that Droid was Verizon's brand.
This is a huge concern of mine as well so much so that I called a Verizon rep last night and asked him the expiration date of the offer. He went on his PC to look it up, and had to admit he could not find any end date for it. I know I once saw it ending on November 30th. Could it be they have left the date open?
As I recall, there has been prior discussion that the date is open, some indicating open at least through the holidays. There has also been discussion that the November 30th date might be tied to a particular retailer's promotion (Amazon's, I think) that ends on that date. Bottom line, from what has been said here my hunch is that the date is open, but I would really like some confirmation that we will not be stung by waiting for the Nexus release.

If I were a betting man, i would say that they are holding off until after BF to see where there numbers stand and will then announce. After all, they MUST get this phone out before the holiday season. December 8th or the 15th seems reasonable to achieve what VZW needs to do here.

I too agree with this idea. My guy at a verizon Authorized store just texted me to let me know that they have some rezounds in today if I was interested.
I told him I was still waiting on news about the nexus release and quickly asked him if he had any "new" news regarding said release.
His reply was "Yeah, looks like early december nexus release."
I then texted to see if what he was hearing was anything concrete or just more speculation like the rest of us. He has not answered that yet.

I agrre l it does make sense for Verizon to ride out BF with their current line up. They have two great high end smartphones to push, iPhone 4s, 3g androids, Xoom deals and a plethora of 3g not-so-smart phones to offer up as great choices for holiday gift giving this black friday.
This thinking would allow them to see where they stand with future orders. Think about this, I would bet that have a fairly good idea of how many phones they can sell over the next month or two, soley based on how many contracts are ready or about to be ready from renewal. What they may not know so well is how many of each phone will sell. BF will give some indication as to how many phones will need to be ordered for the rest of the year.
And, after BF, an announcment of a pre-order on Monday, and a release on "Thursday" 12/1, or 12/8 seems to make total sense given the current landscape.
just my 2 cents anyway

I'm curious, if Verizon actually decides to launch it on Black Friday, how many of you will buy it on Friday? If it did, I would probably wait until Saturday, but if I happen to be near a store on Friday and it wasn't too busy, I would get it then.

I was just told we have 15 people coming over Friday so if I want to keep my head attached I'd say Friday is out for me.

but its fun lol. Pre-release threads are the pre-concert activities that usually lead to good times lol. Friendships are made, people are hated, and its just a great time...

That said I wish i had mine in hand too.. but atleast ill have all my money saved up (were expecting our first child, so i had to sell my tbolt and work ot to save enough) to get one after thanks giving :)

I love being here and making new friends.

And congrats on baby!

I'll just wait till Friday afternoon when the madness dies down. I can't wait a full day after release! lol

That's what should happen, but it will take a while.

We still have 2G despite 3G being deployed for several years. :(

Guys/Gals,
Sidebar question and I'm sorry to ask, but you all feel like strange family members (haha) so I trust your responses better...
The wife and I are going to buy a tablet for the family for XMAS and we were thinking the ASUS, but I want the latest and greatest to future-proof it. Is the Transformer Prime the newest?...the one that is like $500? That can't be right, right? Thanks in advance.

Serious question here and not trolling at all: What makes you want an Android tablet over the ipad2? Think about the features you want as well as apps and make a decision then. We have an ipad and an ipad 2 and love them both, and for what I use them for (email, browsing, netflix, streaming movies) I wouldn't consider an Android tablet. Also the ipad fits perfectly on my eliptical's book rack. While I prefer andrdoid handsets, I definately prefer the ipad as a tablet.

BMX also tweeted that the delay was the result of all parties, including Google.

Would someone mind telling me what BMX's twitter handle is, so I can follow? I'm not having any luck searching on twitter. Thanks in advance!

Yes, I believe that is the one. Model number TF201 is what you are looking for.

ASUSTeK Computer Inc. - Eee- ASUS Eee Pad Transformer Prime TF201

Looks pretty nice.

Thank you all very much. I'm not going to lie, when I heard a new Transformer was coming out I thought I was going to have to drop a fortune on it and didn't think this could be the one because it really isn't that bad (Relatively Speaking, of course). This will be easier to convince the wife to go for. No set release day yet, right?

Twitter isn't my thing.

Think it's Black_man_X. Try searching for that.

That's the one! Thanks very much. I don't really do twitter either, but figured I would follow BMX and P3 on the off hand I see some info there when I'm not in a position to follow the pages and pages of posts here. :D

For me its SD card, full size USB, and better integration with my google stuff. With ICS that will only increase.

Please pass along our thanks and if appropriate, I have a question for him (or you).

Would it be possible to get the HTC ordering of those buttons as some sort of option (or a changed SystemUI.apk)?

I've never liked Samsung's ordering to begin with, HTC seems more rational to me (home, menu, back, search) and I hate having to re-groove my mind when switching phones, I really do.

Owning multiple Androids with two different button orders is not what I want. While my preference may be considered wrong by others, it's what I like and I just want to use the UI, not stop and think about it every time I change phones.

This may be my second phone (business), I'm keeping my HTC for personal use (3 working HTCs in the house, they're not going away), so going back and forth will be a daily occurrence for me.

Cheers and many thanks for the info! :)

i don't think anyone has ninja'd me on this on yet.
