***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

BTW, I've asked this before but didn't get a clear response:
For apps like Gmail and Music which are on the Market, will those pre-loaded apps be updateable? I would hate to have two Music apps... (which is the case on my HTC phone because Google's app doesn't overwrite HTC's app)

With root access you aren't forced to keep anything. You can delete the phone apk if you want. Root, FTW.

So now that there are lots of reviews (of the GSM version, anyway), how are people feeling about the size? I have to admit, I keep going back and forth.

I like my 4" Fascinate, and I've always thought 4.3" was borderline too big. When I first heard the GNO was 4.65", I wrote it off completely. But then I realized that was a bit deceptive because of the extra real estate from the disappearing buttons, and decided it was probably OK. I even made a cardboard mockup of the phone to see how it felt in my hand, and it seemed OK.

But the reviews I've seen so far have been really inconsistent. Some say it doesn't feel any bigger than a 4.3" phone, while others say it's ridiculously huge.

I'm going to buy it either way, and I'm sure I'll get used to it, but I have to admit I'm feeling a little bit anxious about whether the size is going to bother me. I'm most likely going to order online as soon as it's available, so I probably won't even have about opportunity to see it in person until I unbox my own.

Somebody reassure me...

I heard he did the review complaining about the phone being too big

BK's Tiny Hands Commercial 2 - YouTube

but Its only a smidge longer then a RAZR, and the RAZR is a smidge wider

I'm in the same boat. I'm torn between the much better resolution and screen size (especially for video playback, I watch a lot of stuff on my phone). But I am also concerned about going from the 3.7" Dinc screen to the Gnex screen. I found a web site that will show you an overlay of phone sizes, and the change in size is pretty significant. I'm sure I'll get used to it, but it still is going to be quite an adjustment.

Bezel is really small. And the thinness of the phone counters the size of the screen so it doesn't feel like you're carrying around a brick.
Also, you can unlock the phone with your face. That should be reason enough for wanting this phone ;)

I think the people saying it is "ridiculously huge" probably have an iphone as their everyday device. I really don't think it is going to be much bigger, if any than the other top android phones out there. If you want to watch videos, movies, play games or anything else like that the bigger screen is going to be an asset. I think the positive far outweighs the negative. Just my opinion though

I completely understand the admin wanting to split into various sections, but for the DX I found it counterproductive with Tips and Tricks, Accessories, Support and Troubleshooting, All Things Root, and the main forum. The main forum and All Things Root are great. But I found that many of the support, tips, accessories posts got lost and little response from folks that are reading the main DX page. If you aren't specifically thinking about those topics then you just don't go in there. It also makes for a management mess for mods to constantly move posts.

Please consider not splitting things up too badly.

Thanks :)

OK, I should clarify - my bad on terms.

If you look here -

Android Phones - Android Forums

Then scroll over to the Samsung Galaxy S II phones - you'll see sub-forums for each variant - because that's what demand called for.

This and any other forum will continue to have the new prefix method (that I really, really like) of an overall forum with prefixes and then just an All Things Root subforum.

I didn't mean to suggest any particular organization or not - I just grabbed on to the word "section" without realizing that it might mean something other than what I intended.

We are always on the lookout for feedback from you - our site user.

Please give us your ideas on this matter and any other over here -

Suggestion Box & Feedback - Android Forums

It's not like the suggestion box at work - this one matters. :) ;)

Wondering if google will ever deal with verizon again Especially if the debut of ics on the nexus in the us occurs after the release of the LG thats coming with ICS. Also why do I need verizon's bua on the phone? I thought my contacts are saved/synced with google. I think the bua on my charge is screwing up my contact list anyways. I have a lot of contacts with extra phone numbers added that are work extentions that I never added and never called them on.

I agree, I think BUA should be a behind-the-scenes thing that syncs contacts from feature-phones but not if you're just going from smartphone-to-smartphone >_>

See, that's what worries me. For me, going from a Dinc (which is almost the exact same footprint as the iPhone 4), it probably WILL feel huge to me. But I'll adjust, and I agree the extra screen real estate is an asset. I am just a bit worried about the size being annoying (carrying in my pocket, reaching all parts of the screen to type with one hand, etc).

The LG phone is being announced on 12/1, it won't be released that same day. So VZW has a chance to beat it to market, unless they keep screwing around with the release date.

I'd be willing to be we'll at least get the official announcement on 12/1, maybe even pre-order, assuming the release stands for 12/8.

For me in this thread a few funny things happened over the weekend. I gave it as fact that the LTE VZW version would have 32 gig storage. And now the google site states that as fact. I gave it as fact that it would release 12/12 , maybe earlier; this is almost a fact.

I came to the defense of P3Droid and it was equated to coming to the defense of the guy who shot JFK. Wow, really? I am not trying to steal Steven's ( or his "The Source") thunder, nor trying to go against your beloved HanSolo, I only thought I would try to share some real facts from my long time (over five years) source and attempt to dispell the rumors. I really don't care if you believe me.

Oh, and by the way, P3Droid is not the only person I know that has an LTE Galazy Nexus; if you chose to look, you would know those others as well.

read more, post less.

Now I am off to finish getting my server working again, as I know within two weeks from now I will have a boatload of new files and guides to host/write.

goodnight.

God, let's hope so.

The GNex is very close in size to my buddy's Photon. I find his device perfectly acceptable both in hand and in pocket. For reference, I'm an average size American male.

Interesting fact, no one has ever posted "Michigan beats Ohio State" on Facebook. Why? It didn't exist the last time that happened.

Go Bucks! :D

hahahaha I couldn't like this post enough times.

Well sorry but since you guys have to play by the rules now things are going to be a little different... BTW hows that 6-5 record feeling

GO BLUE!!

I've never used that before I'll have to check it out. I usually just lock it with the launcher I use, but going to hopefully not use one on the Gnex

That's kind of why I figured some in here might like it. :D

I'm not worried about it in my pocket. I am worried about it in my hand. The thunderbolt feels a bit big. I'll get used to it though. Why? CAUSE I WANT THIS PHONE

Unlimited LTE Samsung Galaxy Nexus. Be jealous.

nope. Cause I will have it too. Neener Neener Neener back. :p:D

Well the toro (code name for the LTE Gnex) is in the source, then even if verizon decides to push its own updates, it shouldnt be difficult to make roms for it. As long as they dont lock the loader, we should be OK ;)

Not that i don't believe you, but do you have a link or anything to back that up? The last I heard the only device in the source right now is the HSPA+ model.

EDIT: http://source.android.com/source/building-devices.html

"The only supported phone with the current release is the GSM/HSPA+ Galaxy Nexus, a.k.a. "maguro". GSM/HSPA+ Galaxy Nexus is currently the recommended device to use with the Android Open-Source Project."

Directly from the Android Source page.

I had a smaller screen phone before (had the crappy ally for a bit), and that was 3.0 inches and then went straight to a 4.3 inch screen and I thought it was great, but I get that not everyone will like a bigger screen. What happened with me though was after a week or two I picked up my old phone and couldn't believe how I dealt with a screen that small lol.

I think we should start a poll on what date is the absolute latest you will continue to wait for the GNex. I think the median will give us a good idea of when this phone is coming out because I think somehow everyone w/ a Verizon phone is having their brain read and Verizon knows exactly what they are doing because they know your thoughts.

12/15 is probably as long as I'm willing to wait. I don't think my OG Droid will make it much longer than that. It gets worse every day.

I guess you forgot the John Cooper years. I don't count the Tressel years because he was nothing but a cheater.

The Wolverines will kill "Ohio" this year. :D
