***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

So the incredible thread was open for 81 days and it racked up 47,904 posts during that time.

This thread has been open for 92 days and it's still well over a thousands posts to go until it matches the original DInc thread.

It's safe to say that nothing will beat the DInc thread......not even this one. This thread had to hit 47,905 on Nov. 12th in order to beat it on an evenly timed level. It's the pushed release date that kinda killed the race here.

Nice try, though!

In order to compare fairly, all factors should be taken into account. The Incredible was released before Verizon had the iPhone and when Android was just starting to become a mainstream OS.

Those 2 factors alone will always make that thread the "most epic". The fact that this thread has reached this level with the iPhone and other high end Android alternatives on Verizon says a lot.

Someone please convince me to not purchase the nexus right now from expansys and go to at&t. Are they really that terrible compared to verizon? I looked at the coverage map, and I'm covered pretty much everywhere I go. And I heard their hspa+ network gets about 3-6mbps which is PLENTY fast for a cell phone IMO.

I'm so close to buying this and saying to hell with verizon.

You have to make the decision that works best for you.

For me, true LTE speeds, better coverage, and of course grandfathered unlimited data has me staying put.
Also, I'm not sure if you can buy a 32GB GSM Nexus right now. Someone chime in and correct me if need be.

Everyone says better coverage, but looking at both coverage maps side by side, they look the same.

I also don't understand the hype with LTE....my verizon 3g speeds are fast enough. What can we do with all the extra speed?

I don't have unlimited data anyways.

I had a 4gb card on my previous phone and only used half of it.

Hmm....I don't know what to do.

You must have someone that is local who is on ATT you could ask about their service no? I Wouldn't want to try and convince anyone of what to buy or not to buy, but that's just me.

There are areas AT&T isn't bad and they've spent a lot improving their coverage. but I would agree it depends on where you plan to use it that makes the biggest difference. And also how important the reliability is to you.

I have friends on at&t who are perfectly fine with the coverage in my area, but I've been around when the call drops or they walk outside because the connection skips. That would drive me insane (and did when I was on at&t) they don't even seem to notice though.

My cell phone is my only phone, I use for work and on-call at a hospital, the reliability is the most important thing for me. If the nexus wasn't coming to VZW, I wouldn't be considering it.

Look at it this way. My LTE speeds on my Razr are faster than my home Internet speeds. (Fastest Fios Internet package)

lol @ nerds calling nerds nerd.

I love original Star Trek (not much of the new stuff) too, but I have to admit, some are thier own class of nerds. Go to a Trekkie convention and it will end debate. :D

I once worked with a guy who wore plastic Spock ears while working. He would come into work, put his ears on and work. He could also diagram the entire warp engine layout and bridge schematics, although he still had trouble with MS Word.

I couldn't make that up if I tried.

Hmm, my memory could be faulty but I swear that I read that putting an ATT sim into the Euro spec Nexus would not give you access to HSPA+ here. You would have a 3g only Nexus.

Please correct me if I'm wrong as I don't want to be a purveyor of misiformation.

Yes and no. If it is not out by the eighth I am ABSOLUTELY leaving Verizon and getting my Nexus fix elsewhere.

I love how people base their personal cut-off dates on rumors. If that's how we do it, then when the world doesn't end in 2012, how many people will leave for Mercury? It may not be as nice there, but at least you'll know you'll be dead.

This thread is MUCH better to me, because I am a part of it, and so are all of you. To me, it doesn't matter how long that thread was open or how long it takes to have more posts. It's irrelevant. One day, there will be another thread that's more"Epic" than this one, but perception is reality, so if you believe this is better, it is, if your opinion is different, then that is your truth, and nothing will change that. $.02

Really? No Thanks at all on this?

Abraham Lincoln I believe. One of my favorite quotes.

Reminds me of novox77's old sig -

Sheesh. Get an arena with a nice Drill Thrall you Star Trek nerds.

This thing is running perfectly, no lag, no interruptions. Just a screeny for anybody wondering about RAM. Im curious tho, because specs say this thing has 1GB of RAM and yet its adding up to around 6 or 700MB.

Glad you mentioned that, I was going to ask first to confirm. :)

Both the S3 and the OMAP 4460 were both designed with superior video / media in mind.

Just like the Intel GPU that scores low on 3D gaming benchmarks but ultra-high on HD processing, the S3 in the Rezound and the OMAP 4460 in the Nexus set aside a portion of their 1 GB ram for mapping I/O and for GPU memory.

So, seeing less than 1 GB total on either phone is perfectly normal (and correct per the design).

The next thing I'll caution is that you can use various utilities that report ram and no two of them will add used+free and end up with the same amount.

That's also perfectly normal because the utilities themselves load into ram and that changes things enough that those reports are really just approximations.

Hope this helps.

And this ought to go into into the forum main FAQ sticky at some point, because it's going to get asked a lot. :) ;)

Hmm....I don't know what to do.

Keep in mind, coverage maps and actual coverage can be quite different.

As for speeds, for most web browsing, 3G is adaquate. But this phone lets you do a lot more, and perhaps you want to start streaming some HD video. That's where the speed is going to help out.

Realistically, we are looking at another 2 weeks (although nothing official). Do you want to wait the 2 weeks or not. And will you regret your decision if you didn't wait.

I'm getting old. I instantly remember the episode.

agreed. I dont really use a whole lot of data, but its nice to know its there. If tmobile was any good, i would have switched already. I also really want/need the 32gb model too

You have to make a decision at some point, a rumor is just as good as any other reason.

For me the cut off is probably the end of the year, when the after Christmas sales hit. If its not out I'm going to follow Hans olo's suggestion, get a TP and start checking out the next round of phones in the may-july time frame.

My Dinc. is still more then usable, I just want a NEW toy dammit!

I'm just going to wait it out. I need to learn to be more patient, so this will be good practice. :(

Hmm....I don't know what to do.

I suppose my OG hardware may be limiting my speed on Verizon's 3G, but my web speed blows goats. I'm dreaming of a day when I click a link, and the pr0n photos pop up INSTANTLY. My hope is that LTE is that dream.

Plus, with unlimited data, I plan to stream to the new TV I'll need to buy once this phone is finally released.

Thanks for clarifying that. I've no complaints about lack of RAM, i only put that up because people were wondering about what free memory the device had. Not going to pretend that i know the ins and outs of hardware but i have a feint idea and this just made me a whole lot clearer.
