Root Darktremor A2SD for Prevail [Updated 5-7-12]

Having problems here. I just upgraded to EJ06 Gingerbread Rooted Image with CWM5 made by Chin Checka.

I had A2SD before when I was on Froyo. I did a fresh install and followed the directions to a "T" like I had done the first time I used A2SD.

When I try to move apps to the SD I click The "apps are on internal storage" tab and then click "yes" when it asks "Are you sure?" It pops up "working" and loads the "changing settings" then flashes to "working" "reading settings" and after that it does not re-boot or do anything and the screen still reads "apps are on internal storage" the same thing happens if i try to move the Dalvik Cache to the SD-EXT? Very odd. I had no problems previously using this.any ideas?
EDIT: Also on the "system info" tab all the bars are empty for everything??
i had the same problem with the same setup you can try the a2sd update in market or uninstall and reinstall it worked for me after the update

I had the new version as I noticed adds. i never saw adds for it when i was on Froyo?

I honestly think my SD card is shot, as I have had other problems in the past. Several problems and everytime my sd card was needed when these odd differant things pop up for me. I partitioned it wrong the very first time I tried it. and since then i have re-done the partition. I think (hope) thats where my problem is?????

EDIT: Although when I did re-partition the sd card for my second time, it was because I did this A2SD for the first time on Froyo and it worked fine. I downloaded 33 apps to my sd card with success. Now Im on GB and I tried it the same exact way as I did before and its not working. Im really sad without A2SD :( pissed is more like it

but like i said i had the same setup as you and my sd is fine. i am not the expert on this issue:confused: as i did not make the programe but if you uninstall and reinstall it should work or look it up there is a post that explains exactly how to fix it. and the update i spoke of is after a2sd is on your phone go to android market and look up a2sd and there will be an update that is what fixed mine:D hope i helped a little. these guys here are great.

thank you for everything to all the people who worked so hard on the prevail

I can try to help
What rom?
Same a2sd zip from froyo or new one?
Did you mount system and data before installation?

there are different ones? How do I tell the difference?

Edit: guess I had an old version, the file size was different. Filename was the same though

i only changed the updater-script
removes maps and books from gb stock to make room for all these files.
all 5mb of them.
effin' odex.

Ok. First off sorry for the delay. I tried again yesterday. I was going to delete the zip from my SD and download it again. But I figured I would give it another go. So o did the same exact thing I did three previous times and it worked. But what's sorta weird is that it says they are on SD so I wanted to push them back to the phone and then back to the SD to sorta see how it all is working and it wont let me. They are stuck on the sd.

Sounds strange but that's the deal. I did download a fresh version but then o had two zips of the file. I chose what I "thought" was the new zip and deleted the other but looking back it's possible I used the one I had from froyo. I got a new 8gig SD card today so when I get around to it I may just delete it all and start fresh.

Hmmm I really am thinking of the possibility I used the old zip now that you mention it I didn't think the zip had changed but I downloaded it the second time when I went GB just because

if maps and books are system apps, you used the old one.

sorry, i didn't see this problem coming.
updated files will now be tagged as such.;)

ed: wait, if you're on ctmod you have enough system space anyway. i remember having trouble trying to move programs back to internal on ext4 roms but i always leave them on sd now. i think moving dalvik in and out would work though if you want to test it.

if you're familiar with adb or the terminal you could simply try
Code:
ls -l /data
and see if the links are pointing to the ext.

OK I went to restore books right now and it said "warning this is a system app" yada yada so I guess I used the old one.

Yes I am using ctmod 2.2 and right now as I type I tried to move dalvik back to the internal memory and it said "not enough space left" funny cause I have 142 free out of a total of 160 on the internal memory lol. So thats odd in itself???

As for the last thing, you lost me. I dont even know what adb is lol :o

Thanx to hrouke13,bloodawn,inigomontoyasr,shabbypenguin,koumajutsu,and everyone else who has this worth having...I bricked it twice and factory reset several times and have been laughed at NY everyone I know...I finally have it rooted, booted and zooted!!!!!!!

The first time I installed CTMOD 2.2 I noticed nothing wrong with A2SD. Then after the BTFix did not work, I had to reinstall (thought I had backed it up).

Now... Everything runs fine, maybe even GREAT! But, The stats on the GUI are not all correct. Stats on Titanium Backup look good.

Got a lot of apps installed. Running apps and dalvik from 1GB sd-ext.

GUI says: internal 124 / 159MB (correct)
sd-ext 89/93MB ????
/cache/ 89/92MB ????
RAM 63/290MB????

TB says: ROM 48.5 free (some user apps moved here)
Internal 130
sd-ext 855MB Free (1GB partition)

settings says 124MB

Edit: If I formatted anything (cache, etc.) it was using CWM. I think I ran the A2SD zip twice, the second time I manually mounted system and data first. The script said that it had been modified by Inigo. I guess it was the correct one. i may have ran the one before 11/18???

Edit: And somebody please teach me something about screen capture apps.

I need a little help here. I just installed A2SD (followed all the steps exactly as posted on the first page), however when I try to open it, it tells me:

Exiting A2SDGUI
Could not start for one of these reasons:
1. Your device is not rooted (it IS rooted)
2. A2SD Scripts could not be found
3. No EXT partition found

In the notifications area it's telling me "# su binary outdated". When I attempt to update it, it goes as far as "Copying su to /system"...then fails.

that one is the new version. the gui not reporting correct internal is a known problem on ext4 roms. i didn't develop the app i just made it work on this phone.

what rom are you using? it sounds like you are out of room on your system partition which should not be the case. are you using the zip from the OP?

And now on a more personal note this mod recently passed 1400 downloads and i just got my first donation ever. thank you, mvaness.

Thanks Inigo. It is weird that the first time I installed the zip with 2.2 it reported correct looking stats. But, no big deal to me. The damn thing flys now

LOL, I fully intend to make some donations very soon. I have some sort of problem with paypal and they actually have some of my money in limbo. Not sure if I got hacked or what happened, but they are making me jump through hoops to prove that I actually exist and am actually the one who exists that I say that I am, etc. I have been procrastinating on getting this taken care of for months. But, I will take care of this very soon.

but, I do know a guy......

just kidding of course.

Thanks for all that you do. OCR (old and new), Shabby's awesome pioneering, GB, CWM, KoumaKernel, CTMOD, and your modified A2SD script have made this cheapo phone something to be proud of and use the hell out of on a daily basis. All you guys deserve to be rewarded for your efforts by all of us who are reaping the benefits and you should not have to wait for your reward in the hereafter.

whats the easiest way to convert to a2sd from link2sd while keeping everything installed? Im currently using Ext4

browse to /data/sdext2 (that should be the folder link2sd mounts) and see if there are folders under there called app, app-private, and dalvik-cache. if they're there then it should be

uninstall the link2sd app
install the a2sd zip in cwm
reboot and make sure a2sd is set to 'apps on sd'.

if the folders are not there and you have only apks it'll be a few more steps but it can be done.

I dont have any folders called app or app-private, i have dalvik-cache, data, and lost+found, then all the apk's are in the root of that folder

ok..

make a folder called app
put the apks in that folder
uninstall link2sd app
install a2sd zip in cwm
reboot system
make sure a2sd is set to 'apps are on sd'

you may have to move the data folder back to internal to get passwords and settings back. i imagine they'll get rebuilt but with defaults since this version can't move app data.

logically that should work.
i have been known to use faulty logic

Not sure if it helps and I don't know how many Apps you have, but (back when I was on froyo) I had link2sd and I just moved them back to the phone then installed a2sd and had no problems at all. Of course if you have to many Apps to fit in the internal memory then this would not be an option

I agree with 76ford90lx. I'll add some steps as well.
I remember uninstalling link2sd and booting up into recovery. Once there, select mounts and storage, select mount/system and mount/data. Reboot into recovery and select Install zip from sdcard. Choose zip from sdcard select your zip and install. Reboot into phone and select A2SD.

Let us know how it goes lMonsterl.

exactly what I did, I went to link2sd moved all apps to the internal memory, uninstalled link2sd, then followed the steps above, after reboot and opening a2sd everything was perfect.

ummm yeah. that's what i was going to say next. sure.

actually what really happened? did they just not show up?

i thought it would be like switching roms and reinstalling the a2sd script cuz they're in the same folder structure at a different mount point.

like going to a different wal-mart. you can get the same shiz in the same aisles it's just a different town.

Except Wal-mart has 2 or 3 different layouts.

Sometimes, electronics is in the back, in the middle, sometimes it's in the back right corner, where sporting goods is.

Heck even the garden center can swap sides of the store :)
