Root Darktremor A2SD for Prevail [Updated 5-7-12]

Except Wal-mart has 2 or 3 different layouts.

Sometimes, electronics is in the back, in the middle, sometimes it's in the back right corner, where sporting goods is.

Heck even the garden center can swap sides of the store :)

Not only an electronics wiz, but the man knows his walmarts. He is working towards sainthood in my book

ummm yeah. that's what i was going to say next. sure.

actually what really happened? did they just not show up?

i thought it would be like switching roms and reinstalling the a2sd script cuz they're in the same folder structure at a different mount point.

like going to a different wal-mart. you can get the same shiz in the same aisles it's just a different town.

I moved everything to the correct folders, uninstalled links2sd. Then I booted into Recovery mounted data and system. Ran the .zip, everything said it went smoothly. Booted up and it had just copied as many programs as it could back to internal so i had less than 1mb of space I was working with. Set everything to external and then it didn't recognize my partition for some reason even though it was still there, it had even copied the new app-private folder in the dir that i never made myself. So it was funky, I flashed back to before and figured I say **** it until there is a "for sure" method.

does this work with a 32gb sd card ive been trying to get this working for a week...it does work on my 2gb card so whats the deal with 32gb any help would be appreciated and why aint this a sticky

Is their some steps missing or something in how to get this working, everytime I do just like you say on here it never works.... seams like the sd card doesnt change when i partition all the files that where on the sd card are still their. something is wrong with either my setup or your directions(probly mine).

When i go into the GUI and i click apps to SD it looks like its working then just goes back to where it was without it selected. When I look at when i go to general information it shows SD-EXT has 89mb free and same for /cache

Why is my SD-EXT so small? and how to i make it larger? Thinking repatriation in my CWM isnt working correctly.....

Running CTMod 2.3

Hey bud! Same happens to me, all I had to do was go into recovery again, mount system and data and partition de SD card once more. For some reason you gotta do it twice, don't know if its a CTMod thing, I'm on it too so I guess so! BTW! DO NOT TRY TO MOVE DALVIK! It will break your phone so bad it will seem like its bricked (if it happens, remove battery AND SD CARD, I almost sent mine to Samsung lol) and you're gonna have to Odin back to normal :( Or... Try to move Dalvik, for science!

EDIT

Hey I just checked my system info and it shows 89mb free out of 93mb too... Does this mean the apps are not installing on the sd-ext? The "apps are on sd" green light is on... wtf?

Moving dalvik is not problematic if you have plenty of room on your ext and a card of class 4 or higher. Higher is preferred. I always have mine on sd. These roms are all deodexed so the dalvik can be enormous. I boot up and then move and rebuild dalvik and it always works. It just adds MINUTES to the initial boot time. Like seven more minutes depending on the number of apps.

The gui is not reporting properly on ext4 roms this is a known issue and may never get fixed. A different program like titanium or the terminal command df will give you a proper representation of your internal space.

I just ran a2sd check and I get a whole bunch of stuff all ending in "permission denied" I followed the steps perfectly... What am I missing?

No wonder my phone boots so damn slow if I have a lot of apps on the SD. I only have a class 2 card  LOL
Good thing I haven't tried to move the dalvik. Am I to assume that a class 2 would technically function though so slow as it would be nigh unusable?

First of all thank you for putting your time and effort into other people's problems! Please help me with mine.

Rooted with shabbys one touch link
CWM 5 via Odin
CTMod 2.3
no other mods or installs

I'm trying to install a2sd.
CWM doesnt seem to partition my SD card, when I reach that step in the directions. After it installs and I reboot I check the app in my drawer and it wont transfer the files. Im really new to ALL of this. Please help!

I tried to partition it myself with mini tool partition wizard and now the phone doesnt recognize the sd card.

Ok i got it to partition in the phone after i undid the partition that the other program did. I still had a2sd installed and it seems to have freed up the internal memory.
Internal Memory~146MB(159MB)
SD-EXT~89MB(93MB)
/cache/ 89MB(93MB)
Ram 98MB(290MB)
- does this seem right?
Thanks again.

A2sd will give inaccurate readings on memory check Titanium backup if you have it, or download free space.

I followed the directions and installed a2sd while still keeping link2sd because I like the way it works. I had to partition my card twice to make enough room for the dalvik cache to fit. I also made a backup of my sd card before hand. My problem is since then when connected to my pc via usb my phone charges but does not show up usb debugging in top left corner. Also cannot use phone as mass storage to move my sd card contents back. I even tried mounting usb storage in recovery to no Prevail. Am I doing something wrong

did u enable it in the settings?

Ok TB says:

System ROM 168MB (69.3MB free)
Internal 167MB (116MB free)
SD card (a2sd) 960MB (865MB free)

That seems right...
Thanks again TTR!!

yes I enabled it in the settings. It did not work for a while say the first couple hours after I installed a2sd them all of a sudden it started working. I am going to reflash my phone and start from scratch anyway. Seems that something is eating up my memory. I figure if I reflash ctmod on my phone then install a2sd and go from there I will get optimum space used out of my memory seeing as I am still using the stock 2 gig stick that comes with the Prevail.

i just bought a 16 gig memory card what sized do you recommend for the ext size and swap size
i figure im gonna have to start over so im going to test out hroaks cyanogen mod 7.1 for prevail beta...

For the partition I would recommend 1024 (1 GB is plenty) and swap to 0

if i set the swap size to zero that would use up the remaining free space on the sdcard? and this works with ctmod2.3 right?

am i supposed to unmount /data /system before installing
and is koumakernel supported?
at first i unmounted /system and /data then installed a2sd and in the app drawer was an icon for it but when i clicked on apps are on sd card it said the kernal wasnt supported
i reformated and reinstalled ctmod 2.3 then left /system /data mounted when all said and done i went into the appdrawer and there was no gui icon for a2sd
