***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

Rooting my DroidX did not wipe the phone, so perhaps it just varies from phone to phone? Of course, the bootloader remained locked on that device, and rooting was an exploit.

So to clarify, we know for sure that unlocking the bootloader will wipe the phone. Do we have consensus that rooting will also wipe it? Perhaps when there's a 1-click method released it will not wipe the phone? I guess it's not that big of a deal... I was just hoping to get all the wiping done before I fully set up my phone. And I'm not sure if I want to root right away, so I was hoping to just unlock the bootloader without rooting and then set up the phone..

You don't need to root to unlock the bootloader on the nexus. I most likely will unlock the bootloader and wait to root since it does not have all the bloat that I usually root to remove.

I've never heard of a ROOTING method that wipes the phone. All you're doing is accessing the system files.

I am VERY concerned about pre-orders on Wednesday. Why would they do pre-orders a day before release? It's really putting a wrench in the works for Thursday :(

Somebody tell me something to cheer me up again!

Who is that guy that said they would get shipments on Mon or Tues? Is he credible?

He is the editor/owner of android central. he is very credible, even more so than kellex from droid-life. Phil waits to post anything and admits when things changes rather than just looking for hits.

I know I will do both and rip it apart with in the hour and then then try to get the kernel I am writing to work on it :D :D but that is just because I want to get into development of it asap

htc inc, htc thunderbolt all wipe when unlocking and rooting..

The thunderbolt only wiped because you had to revert to an older ruu that had the security flaws that allowed the exploits.(At least the first rooting process unsure if it's been updated since I rooted) I don't think there was anything specific to its root process that wiped the phone other than installing older software.

Preorder wed in store fri:D Just look at it this way... Hopefully by the weekend you will have a shiny new nexus in your hands.

Well guys I just had another CSR tell me the preorder would go live THIS Wednesday and that we should contact "customer care" and they would place the preorder for us.

He also said "I am not sure about the store inventory but you will not have a problem with placing it online or over the phone."

He said it would be " shipped to you before the release date."

He's "checking" on the release date for me now.

EDIT: He has "no info" on an actual release date; just that preorders will begin Wednesday, take it FWIW :p

Seems if he knew there is a preorder it would say when the launch is to. I am not going to get stuck with a preorder and waiting 2 weeks like with the razr...

Looks like a few people were speculating that his comment implied it wasn't going to be called Galaxy Nexus. "Looks like a slightly thicker Galaxy Nexus with a Verizon logo" -- overanalyzing or ????

I think he said that just so those who never did a google search knew it would only be thicker than the gsm version and nothing else was different.

Here is my question, Please do not think i am an idiot. I am coming from blackberry OS so this is new to me. What is the difference between unlocking the bootloader and rooting.

How do you unlock the bootloader. I will eventually want to root as i become more familiar with the andriod os. I know i will need to unlock the bootloader from the start so that is does not wipe all my data if i were to do it later.

Can someone help

Hello Nexicans! Been away a couple days.
Anything I missed since the Samsung store story? I'm hearing more rumor about release Thursday or Friday? Any confirmation/ denial about pre-order or announcement?

I think you're right, I'm just trying to play devil's advocate. Phil seems to be much more of a straight shooter than oh say, P3, but I think all the same, it was a question raised over at AC that could provide some fun for everyone here who likes to analyze things to the teeth.

The problem is over analyzing it will only leave you with the same problems haha not having the. Phone
