***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

The fact that most stores are still tight lipped or know nothing about this phone and I got a rep to say they had them but they had just pulled the Friday launch earlier this morning, leads me to believe this phone will not launch this week. Still possible, but evidence is mounting.

AFIK, your story is the only evidence I've heard of. Isn't it likely the "tight-lipped" employees are just following Verizon's instructions?

Wow, what is with all the negativity all of the sudden?

CSRs are relevant, because we have probably upwards of 40 confirmations of the 8th or 9th. There is too much message discipline for this to be made up. Nobody is saying this is official, but this type of info is what this thread is all about. Sure Verizon could put a halt to it all, but its really not very likely at this point.

I'm scared, dammit.

I'm scared.

Statement From Verizon On Google Wallet

Statement from Jeffrey Nelson, spokesperson for Verizon:

Recent reports that Verizon is blocking Google Wallet on our devices are false. Verizon does not block applications.

Google Wallet is different from other widely-available m-commerce services. Google Wallet does not simply access the operating system and basic hardware of our phones like thousands of other applications. Instead, in order to work as architected by Google, Google Wallet needs to be integrated into a new, secure and proprietary hardware element in our phones.

We are continuing our commercial discussions with Google on this issue.

Statement From Verizon On Google Wallet

This would jive with what I found, that Verizon blocking this app is a violation of FCC rules. Of course the new, secure and proprietary hardware element is NFC, and this is the first phone that has it on Verizon if I am not mistaken. Commercial discussions = can we split some of the profits with you from NFC payments. But at the end of the day, we WILL get Google Wallet I believe, because its against the law for Verizon to block it. But now we know their "story" its new technology, and we need to ensure it doesn't interfere with our network. Funny thing is, they are letting it be used for Android Beam... So that story won't hold up very long.

If these rumors are true, the one concern is that each store doesn't seem to be getting very many. Having only 10 pieces on hand is not very much.

True, but I've called a few stores in my area and each added me to a so called unofficial "take your name and call you when we get any" and I was like #3 own all those lists and that was just calling in the last week....perhaps the demand isn't as great as we think.....

OFF TOPIC:

As much as I hate seeing the Bears season go down the drain, Forte should take his sweet time coming back. The Bears didn't want to pay him, so why should he risk his health to help them? Frakking penny pinchers.

OFF TOPIC FOOTBALL:

I agree 100%. I'm not even a Bears fan, but I think Forte is pretty much hands down awesome. And if Bears management is too stupid to pay the man, why risk rushing back from injury, especially since they likely won't be in the playoff hunt by that point anymore.

Obviously all of us and dl/ac/phandroid/etc got Verizon's attention somehow that they were probably FORCED to release some sort of statement about NFC and Google Wallet. Now only if it worked for a release date too. :)

I had this idea ealier...we start the rumor that it's delayed till 2012, and then verizon is forced to "correct" the misinformation.;)

FWIW, just to add my interaction with a store manager today. I have been calling this person for weeks now and is very helpful. She said that they do not have demo units in yet, but she said "hold on let me read this email, I don't have a date yet but the email says the upcoming launch...blah..blah.." she then paused and said "ahh.. why don't you call me back on Thursday." I said I will for sure.

Are they claiming Google omitted the requisite hardware element on their latest flagship device? Something doesn't add up Google and Verizon are playing blame tag.

perhaps they are saying that since there's still no official word from verizon about the nexus being released, and google wallet doesn't work with any of their currently available phones...

I've seen some people ask how to tell if a store is a corp store or a not... here ya go:

verizon_resellers2.jpg

LMAO Just like let me google that for you Let me google that for you

regarding google wallet:

If I go to the market page for google wallet, the reasons I can't install it on my verizon devices (ignoring that they don't have a NFC chip):

Android Market said:
This app is incompatible with all of your devices.
Verizon Motorola Xoom
This item is not available on your carrier.
Droid X
This item is not available on your carrier.

Interesting the WAY that's worded, could mean they consider the NFC chip in the Nexus isn't secure?

I'd be interested in finding out the difference between the Nexus NFC chip and the chip used in that sprint phone that can do google wallet.

The statement is really unclear and seems like Verizon is just trying to pass the blame to Google. Personally, I think Verizon is to blame, but I have no evidence besides Verizon's plans to implement a competing service sending up a red flag for me.

As for the NFC chip, it is possible the Nexus uses a different chip, but it is also possible that Sprint has lower security standards than Verizon.

I'm still waiting for someone---anyone, to post a link or PR Release from Verizon saying, "It's here." I don't mean to be a Debbie Downer, but I've been jerked around enough over this phone. I'm really hoping we hear something by tomorrow or at the latest Thursday morning. If nothing drops by Thursday 12:01 AM EST I'm calling it quits for this week and looking at 'anytime before 12/24'.

I hope this drops Thursday or Friday, but until Big Red gives us a thumbs up these are just 'amusing' rumors to me. Granted, over the past few days more rumors and responses from VZW Reps have pointed towards the 9th more than anything, so that MAY be true, but...I don't want to have to end up peeing on the doors of the corporate store up the street if this fails to drop this week. :P

We were never getting this kind of response from in store reps before. I think the posts are valid until the 9th. If the 9th passes, I will agree that they are worthless.

I'm not saying the 9th isn't valid. I'm saying they've lost all predictive credibility by this point. We've seen shipment orders and pictures of the devices in warehouses/storerooms. Just this morning, somebody said their rep had no idea what they were talking about and that it was pushed back until next week. There's far too much variance. They add more confusion than it's worth. When the shipments arrive in stores, they'll all be telling us what we already know. And some of them will probably still give false information.

Here's the bad news guys. Take it like everything else stated here, with a grain of salt, but she came back and said that the manager said he just got notified they could not sell on Friday and does not know when they can sell. He said there's still a chance, but they wouldn't know till Thursday. She said they have had a couple of launch dates already for the device but they were all pulled last minute.

Like I said, take it with a grain of salt. I'm going to call the last store in the area now.

And this is why the 9th is FAR from being confirmed as the OP says. I give the 9th about a 2% chance of being the release day. That's up from 0.5% I was thinking last night. Verizon can, and has, delayed stuff like this at the last minute for dumb reasons.

I'm scared, dammit.

I'm scared.

Hmm maybe you should change your name to C3P0, because I don't remember Han ever being scared ;) (I kid I kid)

Yeah, that feeling that Verizon is going to pull the rug out from under you when you are about to touch it can get nerve racking. But Look at all the ad material they are going to put out with it according to the latest leak. They aren't just going to let this phone sit idly on a shelf. We are about to see a HUGE push I believe. If Verizon backs off the 9th at this point, it is because there is some problem.

If rumors are to be believed... this is going to be a soft release and don't expect a PR. I know that it sounds insane... but that is what has been shared by "insiders" FWIW

AFIK, your story is the only evidence I've heard of. Isn't it likely the "tight-lipped" employees are just following Verizon's instructions?

I'm not saying that it isn't possible, but just my observations from the general tone of the CSRs I talked to. A couple legitimately had no clue about the phone and one knew about it, said they had pulled a couple of launches already, and just had a notification that they pulled this one. Who knows, could all be lying.

OT

The running back position is one of the easiest positions to reload on in the NFL. Not saying Forte isn't great, he is a Top tier running back for sure.....but you just don't see many NFL RBs playing their whole career with one team. Teams know they can grab a RB in the draft and plug them in rather easily. Frank Gore might be one of the last you'll see to play his career with one team....

Jives with the interaction I had. Claimed a Friday launch then spoke with the manager who had gotten a notification (email) that it is possibly delayed and said to call back on Thursday and they would know for sure.
