***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

For the record, a manager at one of the local Houston stores on the west side of town just told me that Equipment Guide now says "Coming Soon" instead of December 9, as a previous poster said. Hope that doesn't mean anything bad.

Betting it probably does. But a week really isn't that bad after touching this thing, I'm perfectly satisfied to hang on 7 more days now.

My understanding is that activation is how they generate the new two year contract granting you the subsidized price. I've asked a couple of sales guys a few different times if I could activate my own phone at home and that was the answer I got. Could be BS, I don't know I've never worked as a wireless rep.

As for why it would be different online, I don't know that it is. I think phones ordered online are activated with your number or a new number if you're not porting before the phone ships to you. I've ordered from Amazon and Let's Talk with new numbers, and each time the carrier sent me an email telling me the phone is being shipped and activated with the new number.

I dunno. I still don't quite understand why they won't just sell me a Nexus RIGHT NOW. Can't figure VZW out.

There alot of people posting in this thread, now that this phone is dropping in a few days, who here is UNLOCKING THE BOOTLOADER??? it seems confusing, can any of the normal geeks here understand it? i get more confused the more i read the different threads regarding this matter.:confused::confused:

Hello Galaxy Nexus Community,

I was following this thread while it was at 1150 something for the past 3 days which is relatively short compared to some of you out there but still it seems this thread is endless lol which is great. I was just wondering as I know release is coming soon, and initially I waited for the GN to be released so that the prices on rezound would maybe go dow; I also thought the GNex could possibly be $200 unfortunately that doesn't seem to be the case :( I really do believe the Galaxy Nexus is a great phone but the only hardware spec that I'm worried about is the camera feature, which on the rezound seems to be disappointing by reviews even though on paper it is better. I was wondering should I be swayed by such an insignificant detail as the camera as well as battery life (I don't think I should worry too much) or just get that Nexus because following the thread in the past few days really did add hype into the phone actually being released. I was actually hoping for the Galaxy S2 for Verizon but since it was passed on, I thought I'd put my hopes into the Nexus. What do you guys think? Thank you for the invite OP Steven58 I may have been a lurker but I guess it is finally time to come out of that shell. I must say the mods are the most amusing out of all because they are so pro active. Thank you in advance. I am really leaning towards the GN and waiting for that imminent "press" release maybe tonight!?

a 4.5" screen could be a huge battery hog. the android manufacturers really need to do something about the lack of battery life on all android phones. it is the only thing that i cannot defend when i talk with someone who is negative about android.

Welcome new member koealk !

Only reason I am posting this is because everyone thought that 'the west coast was getting the shaft' lol

I live right outside Phoenix and talked to the corp store right by my house and they have them in stock and confirmed that Friday is the day.

Also on a side note I have a buddy who manages an authorized verizon reseller stand and he said he should have the shipment in tomorrow and if so to swing by after work because he has no problem selling me one early. We'll see though. He has definitely sold me a couple phones earlier than we he was supposed to but im not trying to be disappointed either. Ill keep you guys posted if it happens tomorrow or thursday.

Yeah, it's pretty incredible. I have the GSM version on AT&T. I'm just tired of dealing with terrible service (when I'm in crowds like at a football game or even downtown for work, data barely works). That being said, I don't really care when the phone is released, as long as the double data promotion is still going on -- that makes losing unlimited data easier to stomach.

it will come with one. some people have phones that currently have a sim card, but there was talk(and i dont know which is true) that the gnex uses a micro-sim, in which case their current card wouldnt work without modifying it or getting a new one

The GNex comes with a MicroSIM, so its smaller. But I remember when the first microSIMs came out, people were able to cut them down to size and they still worked, not sure if that works with the LTE sims or not.

Here is a pic of the official specs showing its a microsim - hint, look under technology tab

I dunno, I still don't get it...

If it comes with one then who givs a hoot about the one in your old phone. I don't understand why you would need two sim cards that fit your Gnex and none that fit the old phone.

I must be missing something, but it seems like you are taking the gas tank out of a new car that it fits in and cutting the one down from your old car just to put it in the new car to hold gas. What was wrong with the one it came with?

Im going to go on a limb and say Verizon is messing with us.... heres why:

The Xyboard is coming out on the 12th, and the Nexus 9th. If you check VZW and go to store locator and look at the times. Friday and Monday are red for special hours. For releases. Its only been that way this week :)

If so, there are going to be a crapload of people here who were promised an appointment to pick it up who are raging. That would literally guarantee a 70k+ final thread count. lol

I was told by my local store, to call back on Wednesday. It has taken a LOT of self control not to call today. I am going to call bright and early tomorrow, I am really hoping they will let me make an appointment.

Alright, I will also take this invitation to join in. I have been lurking since about 35k posts. I have enjoyed all the on (and off) topic discussions. Even though I have been lurking I feel like I have gotten to know all of you. I am ready to put my OG Droid to rest and start playing with my GNex soon!

Welcome!

Isn't it your bedtime?!

Smiley face with tongue sticking out.

Yes, I'm on the app.

You must learn the basics silly man - it's a colon with a p
*smh*

And no - I burn both ends of the candle lately. :p

That would be such a fitting end to the thread, haha.

P.S. Your avatar is going to give somebody a heart attack

It's perfect BB's nicely done!

Thanks - I just updated her a bit - I almost had a heart attack. She is fine when she is full screen - but put her that small and it might offend some of our members when it looks like her tata's are hanging out.

Alright, well I am off to bed. No one get banned ok?

Night!!!

Welcome to you too!!!

For those of you that already paid and have their device on hold, it's 299 right? not the 199 we heard about a week or so back?

My local news just reported that Samsung "released" their new phone the Galaxy Nexus, but Verizon refused Google wallet because it is not secure enough YET.

I was so surprised to see the phone made my local (Albany) news AND that the news falsely reported that the phone was already released. Figures.

Have you talked to anyone at the corp store today? If so is there any new news? I haven't had time to catch up with every page today.

I think you should try it before you decide that the camera will not be satisfactory for you. All the shots taken and shared online is not the "end-all" results as there are WAY too many factors that need taken into account.

Welcome to the forum 1time :)

The camera has been gone over ad nauseam. It's a good camera but you have 14 days to decide for yourself. And welcome! :D

Thanx...been lurking for about a week and finally had something to contribute!

Sorry if I missed a welcome before (and to anyone else) - things have been moving fast and furious and my poor sleep deprived brain can't hold all the info it usually does

Welcome... and honestly the Nexus may be the best smartphone out there now (not my words lol) but its not the best for everyone. Just like a pair of shoes every person has his or her own fit and style. You may love sense and really like the camera on the rezound, and hate the style of the Razr. You may not like the plastic thin feel to the nexus, and like the heft of the Rezound. But you may like the Amoled screen's and dislike the SLCD. Its all a toss up. Spend alot of time in the store, just because the reviewers said its a great phone doesnt mean its the right phone for you..

Great first post ;)
