This sort of thing has never happened with the iPhone...Apple says it is being released on whatever date and it is released on THAT date.
Probably because Apple doesn't announce anything until they're finished testing and ready to go. Unfortunately, Verizon didn't have that option: Samsung and Google announced this phone back in October, mainly because they needed to respond to the iPhone 4S launch.
In retrospect, I think that was a mistake. If anybody is to blame for this messy launch, it's Samsung and Google for announcing too soon. It's now clear that, at that point, the LTE version was nowhere near ready to release, and Verizon wasn't ready to release it. Samsung and Google should not have announced it until it was closer to ready.

haha j/k. I think you're right about Verizon (the first part). They are excited about this phone and the way it has been recieved. They want it to stay that way, and not be dragged through the mud by bugs.
