***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

I am beginning to wonder if there was more to it when they pulled the phone from the Samsung store in Columbus Circle. Seems like a dream that I picked one up and actually held the phone in my hand.

Good morning, all. Obviously, I don't feel good about a launch today, but here's to at least one of us getting our hands on this baby... Or at least some official news for crying out loud. :)

Hope that somebody is me! haha. But really, now I don't if its worth going up to Verizon Corporate at 9am EST

You could have made it clearer. I took that liberty. :p

I do agree with you a little. Although I think it is foolhardy to assume that all stores have it, I think it has been shown that there exist a finite, nonzero number of stores who have taken receipt of a nexus shipment. And, because some stores have it, it is reasonable to assume that in the near future and given there are no plan changes, all stores should have it.

-Nkk

OK, I'll take some liberty here too! :D

Since there has been some noise that some stores have sent their stock back, if true, it's also reasonable to assume in the near future all stores with stock will return there's too. ;)

Obviously I like your scenario better, but would I rule out mine? Nope. Not likely, but not out of the realm of possibility.

This thing is just so screwed up. :(

VZW exec#1 to VZW exec#2: Hey frank, where does this go?

VZW exec#2: What is is?

VZW exec#1: It says "Nexus"

VZW exec#2: What!? That can't be right? Surely it says "Droid" on it right?

VZW exec#1: No, It reads "Nexus" What do we do with it?

VZW exec#2: I have no clue? Its got to be a mistake. We only deal with "Droid"

VZW exec#1: So, what do we do with them?

VZW exec#2: We should ask the manager:

VZW exec#2 to manager: Hey, what should we do with this "Phone" that reads "Nexus?"

VZW manager: You mean it reads "Droid"

VZW exec#1&2, nope "Nexus"

VZW manager: Ugh, um... Uh, Quick, its a mistake, shove them in a non descript box and hide them!

VZW exec#1: Uh... what!?

VZW manager: Yeah, its got to be a mistake, I have NO idea what a "Nexus" is, its got to be another carriers box. So, quick, box them up and hide them or dump them off at retailers with a note that says do not open until we find out what do with these non droid branded phones.

VZW exec#1 to VZW exec#2 & manager: Im scared man, its a non droid phone and according to the internet these phones don't have an encrypted bootloader! If we sell these, people may get used to the fact they can legaly hack their phones and daddy moto will not like that. Lets get these friggin things out of here!!
After the stock is loaded up and dumped at local retailers, all three VZW workers show back up to work, go to the break room, curl up in a ball sucking their thumbs and crying at the horror of dealing with a non moto flagship phone

The sad thing with your whole story is, when you search "nexus", it returns the result for "droid". So its not far from the truth ;)

I'm sorry, but I see this statement repeated often 'the phones are in the stores'. Let me repeat this for the fourth time, as of yesterday afternoon I could not find one VZW Corporate, non-corporate, RS or Costco on Long Island that had the phone in stock, not one. This probably reflects a total of 14 different locations that I either called or visited.

So please folks, don't assume that 'phones are in ALL stores', they are not. I can't make that any clearer.

Do you think it's possible those people you spoke with might not have told you the truth?

After follwoing the forums of the bionic the htc thunderbolt and now the galaxy nexus I've decided to stay with at&t..I am like many of you a tech/phone geek..which means that every six months or so im itching for a new device. And seeing how verizon handles launch has really put a bad taste in my mouth. I've ask myself if I really want to get locked down in a verizon contract. And the answer is big no..I want to be able to get my hands on new hand sets and unless that handset has the word droid in it we can always expect an agonizing launch..so i'll stick with at&t with of its faults ( yes I know it has many). But at least ill be able to enjoy the lastest phone technology ..hell I could have had the nexus 3 weeks ago.sure it would have cost more but at least I would have had the freedom to own it by now..so I am saying goodbye to verizon before I even said hello...

Here's a thought guys. Some expressed concern that you could cost a VZW employee their job by trying to extract a release date from them when they've been told not to release that info. Then that same concern should be expressed if you're trying to circumvent the VZW system by getting an employee to release the phone prior to the thumbs up from VZW.

It seems to me this would be a far worse transgression than letting a release date slip. Just something to think about.

So if someone somehow gets a phone today, does that close the thread?

I don't THINK so, but it may depend how many people get it... If the flood gates open, they might consider it...

On another note, I have to wonder if the "Buy Now" button that Google let go live overnight is somewhat of a jab at Verizon.

Is it possible? Yes. Is it likely that about 14 people lied to me from VZW stores (corporate and non-corporate), RS and Costco? Not very IMO.

Why do so many come here to report they were told there is stock but they can't sell. Do I just have an incredibly skewed sampling that consists of only liars? Strains the credibility guy, it really does.

I can understand both your logic and wanting to avoid the frustration we're all feeling. Good luck.

like some people have mentioned....if this thing moves out to January I think i am willing to take a hit on service and switch providers rather then give verizon my money at this point.....this is just inexcusable... Everyone country in the world has the phone releases expect the US....that is verizons fault plain and simple. And for people saying they would ship stock back to HQ and re-flash ROMS with google wallet on it...that makes NO sense, why wouldn't they just announce its available and let us download it from the market like everything else?

I do think you're right. Verizon probably stopped the shipment of these phones, maybe even recalled ones still in transit, to limit the exposure of the phone to the retail stores... It is much easier to prevent the sale of a phone in a warehouse vs. a retail store back room.
