***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

I'm still stuck between this phone and the Rezound. When I get the Nexus in my hands, that should help me with my decision.

Things I like about the Rezound:
1) Better looking, liking the red buttons, overall design
2) Removable sdcard, sure I'll probably never use more than 32GB, but I can at least pull the card if for some reason the rest of the phone becomes fubar.
3) 8 megapixel, better than 5.
4) Known to hold 4G better than some of it's competition.

Things I like about the Nexus:
1) AMOLED, my DInc has this, and I dunno if I can go back to (S)LCD.
2) 1-click root out of the box
3) Faster than the Rezound, until I can put CM on it.
4) Should have better battery life.

So, since I have a good buddy who is a Manager at my local VZW Corporate store, I stopped by this afternoon and spent twenty minutes playing around with "The God Mighty Nexus" (her term, not mine).

Pros:
Big, beautiful display on a phone that doesn't FEEL that big.
The "swipe to dismiss" feature in ICS is kind of AWESOME.
The ability to create folders on the fly on any homescreen is a GAME CHANGER to put it mildly.
The camera is fast, Fast, FAST!

Cons:
For regular "Joe Q Public" users or non-tech people, the software buttons are going to be a BIG learning curve
The Headphone jack on the BOTTOM of the phone?? WTH, Samsung?!?!
Although the camera IS fast as all get out, the pictures are average at best, washed out colors with no "pop" at all.
Even with 32GB on board, I HATE the lack of an SD card. I wouldn't buy a computer that couldn't accept a bigger hard drive, after all....

After my 20 minutes of hands on playing time, I had some quiet time at home. Kids out and about, wife at her "employees only" company Christmas Party, and I thought it over. I mean really, REALLY thought it over.

I waited so long for this phone. I was obsessed with getting this phone. I HAD TO HAVE this phone, and ONLY this phone. But after rolling it around in my head for a couple hours, the decision was surprisingly EASY for me:

I am KEEPING my HTC ReZound. I don't want to seem like a traitor here, and I have the utmost respect for those of you who have hung in there, and are still hanging in there, for this phone and this phone alone - I am not going to tell you that I think you are wrong - it truly IS what VZW calls "An Iconic Phone", and for those of you who waited, I don't think you will be disappointed.

I just think the HTC ReZound is a better phone, or at least a better phone FOR ME. Your mileage may vary (and it probably will), but I, for one, am glad that I finally got to SEE the Nexus, play with the Nexus, and put it through it's paces - it really is quite the badass phone and had it come out in early to mid November, I would have bought it on launch day and never looked back.

Thank God (for me, at least) that it did not, because I have never been as happy with a cell phone as I am with my ReZound, even if it does weight a TON more than the Nexus, and the weight difference is VERY noticeable....... I am keeping my fat, bass-rocking Beats girlfriend, and I have nothing but the best wishes for all my forum friends as you set sail with your thin, sexy Samsung Supermodel!!!:D

BTW - my Mgr friend tells me that:

A) the latest delay is due to Google wallet, period end of story and:
B) This phone WILL DROP on DEC 15th, book it, DONE.

It's been one hell of a ride, and I'm glad I got to take it with Steven, Han, BB and the sexiest vampiress EVER - Hugs to everybody and I hope we can all see one other online once in a while once this thread closes!!

Peace, I'm out, the BEATS are calling my name......... Luv ya guys!!!!!!!

Thanks for this!

This is something I mentioned 2-3 weeks back. The 'little' issues the phone had started becoming 'bigger' issues after having time to read and think about them. It was the initial adrenaline rush screaming, "Who CARES. This is the best phone! I want it now!" But the hype has gone down, and now I'm starting to see things about the phone that may be problematic. Also, MIUI has been working on an Ice Cream Sandwich ROM---and its beautiful. I'm sure it will be available in a few weeks, and I had been toying with the idea of getting the Rezound, rooting, and getting ICS that way.

I have a lot of thinking to do over the next few days. We'll see what happens.

No, it does not validate your argument. It has been said before, GW is a US only service (IIRC). Thus, only US phones can have it (obviously). Since Google knows which phones are US ones by the branding, it has restricted it to only those phones. People who imported unbranded/unlocked phones but who live in the US are unfortunately caught in the middle. Since the market blocks based on three criteria (again, IIRC) being phone model, OS version and carrier, the model would prohibit GW from being on those phones via the market, whether Google intended that or not.

I do not know what is going on, but your post above is not as given as your present it to be.

Sorry but Google Wallet is Not, I'll say that again NOT, a USA only service. Its a Sprint Nexus S 4G service. Notice the catch there. Yes the Nexus S 4G is sold only in the USA but not every Nexus S in the USA can do it. I am still validated by the fact that Google themselves block it from the unlocked/unbranded GSM model, the T-Mobile Locked model, the at&t model. Then for Galaxy Nexus phones they block it from the unbranded/unlocked GSM GNex sold through newegg and negri etc, in the USA. (Example: I imagine the model they gave Steve Woz was a GSM model. He will not have wallet on there unless he hacks it on there, due to Google Blocking it).

Like I said Verizon's thoughts and feelings on Wallet are Null and have ZERO meaning till Google opens the app up for devices besides the Sprint Nexus S 4G.

*facepalm*

I'm quite sure it's been demonstrated time and time again that it's not all in the MP count...

Ok, I'll agree on that somewhat. I supposed if these are pictures printed out there might not be a noticeable difference at all, but the higher resolution could make a different when displayed on a monitor. Say I wanted to crop a section of a shot for a wallpaper (or whatever), having that extra resolution could make a difference...

Rezound DOES NOT have permroot and the bootloader has not been unlocked.

Like I posted a few days ago, I think there's a very real chance that the Nexus will be the last unlocked Android phone on Verizon.

I'm pretty sure that Google either chose (or is restricted) in only putting Google Wallet on with carrier permission and that's why the T-Mobile & ATT Nexus S. I can't remember where, but I thought I read that it has to do with carriers and Google agreeing on the fees involved.

I could be wrong... I have a NS on T-Mobile and was pissed that it wasn't officially released.

I seem to recall MMI being bought by GOOG

If you would kindly read not 10 posts after the quoted one, I did admit I was wrong. I was under the impression all US model Nexus S devices had wallet.

No. There is talk of it, and GOOG has announced intentions. But it pending regulatory approval and has NOT happened yet.

a few things i thought of as well

Rezound Cons

1) Radio in Rezound is a PITA for dev. CM7 & 9 may never be fully supported due to the SVDO. Slayher is on a GSM Gnex now and has dropped Verizon, he was the only person to get the Thunderbolt radio working semi properly. All other work was built off him. The Rezound has a 'similar' radio and may be just as bad.

2) HTC will not be providing a lock/unlock through HTC DEV for the Rezound. Which means True S-Off may never be attained unless a Dev Rezound pops up.

3) Beats audio is App specific, most apps are not supported.

Rezound Plus's

1) You will NOT find a better camera. Ive played with the Rezound camera and a Razr and that thing is nuts. I know MP's do not matter but f2.2 does matter and HTC has done it right.

2) Its built like a tank... i remember my Thunderbolt.

3) Its already out

There is one more MAJOR thing with the Rezound. Dev support will be lacking, just like the RAZR when the Gnex comes out. Devs will flock to the Dev device that is easy to work with. I believe the main reason the Thunderbolt community is so strong is that it is the only 4G device and only 4.3in device on VZW that has a unlockable bootloader and working/copyable RIL. I dont expect the Rezound to be half the phone in the dev world as the Gnex.

Just my .02

This is kind of off topic, but is anyone else get completely and unneccessarily unhappy/frustrated whenever you read a phone review or hear people complaining about how a certain phone (usually an android phone) doesnt work for the sole purpose that they dont know what they are doing? I mean honestly, yes it does have a bit of a learning curve, but most phones come with a manual or you could ask someone at the store for help if you dont understand. For example, here is something i hear people say quite often. "This phone sucks, you have to click menu, then click the notifications button from that menu. why they wont make this easy is beyond me. Also the battery life sucks, I can barely get two days out of it. My lg env got 3 days easy."

I dont know why but comments like this, or reviews in the market like "app says need root. wtf 0 stars" make me seethe with rage, especially when i try to help the people saying it and they deny help and say "its okay ill just deal with it until i get a new phone"...

Ya im in a bad mood tonight sorry guys and gals

You should always look at cost per page when purchasing a printer. Laser printers are always better, but can vary greatly. Our dell color laser at work cost $600 or so, but prints 9000 black pages per $55 cartridge. The color pages cost more to print, but it's still an order of magnitude better than any inkjet. My thoughts are to buy a laser printer, color or B&W, for home use, and get photos printed at Walmart or your local pharmacy.

I don't print much..... I am still using the same HP LaserJet 6L that I purchased in 1997. I used the toner cartridge that came with it until two years ago! I think I'll get a few more years out of the current cart!

To anyone doubting the Nexus and considering a Rezound, remember this:
you're stuck with that phone for almost 2 years. That's 24 months, 104 weeks, or 730 days. Waiting less than a week for a phone that you're going to really like will be worth it in the long-run, don't give up!

This

All these "Well, it's almost CES/quad core fun-times" statements are ridiculous. If they released the phone two weeks ago, you'd still have it now. Nothing would be different about it. Would you be sitting there with your shiny new Nexus two weeks later thinking "I wish this phone didn't come out so soon so I could wait longer for something else..." No.

Should I wait till the release for my 100th post? :p

Edit:Never mind, had to tell someone off.
