Nope, web page says there's a 'pending request' that won't be complete until the end of the billing cycle. Verizon holds your hardware hostage when you port the number. Actually, I suppose I could activate it on another carrier. Not exactly what I had in mind.

I missed your post earlier. It is especially hard when you have to make the decision to put them down, we had to do that with a cat we had for 6 years, that happened over 8 years ago and I still think about it. Again, so sorry!
