***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

Okay, so I'm mid-contract. I'm determined to sell my iPhone 4S and get the Galaxy Nexus.

Does anyone have experience with buying from Negri?

Should I pre-order from them or take the risk that I can get the phone on the 15th here in DC?

Any thoughts on benefits of preordering from Negri versus hoping for Dec. 15 on Verizon? If they plan to ship on the 16th I'd assume that they would only do so when it's legally available to ship, right? I don't know...just want to know what's a better plan of action for someone paying full price.

(sorry if ninja'd)

As I understand, Negri plans on shipping their pre-orders the minute they get them in, whether it's officially a "go" or not. Plus you've got the VZsucks coupon, so it seems to me it makes more sense to buy from them than Verizon anyway...

I emailed verizon about getting the $100 discount....no dice...not for my region

even though i've been with them for years, haven't had a 4g device, never made a late payment, and been due an upgrade since july....oh well

me too. 10 + years, multiple lines, 4g just turned on in my area, etc..etc. nothin'.

pffft.

omg, i dropped it!

Missed my breast pocket and watched in horror as it tumbled almost 5 feet and bounced on the concrete.

No damage. Just a little impression on the corner that hit first.

...so, there ya go. Plastic has its place.

booooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!

I'm guessing Verizon won't be shipping to Negri until the phone is officially launched since they are so open about breaking the street date.

Thanks a bunch. Guess I'll give it a go!

quick zed guide to stop auto-redirecting (like what the verizon nexus landing pages do)

in firefox go to tools->options->advance-> click warn on redirect

no idea for IE, Chrome, Opera, Lynx, Netscape or Mosaic

Diztronic TPU Case?!

maybe not? you saying bounced makes me think you're wearing a case.

OT (Homeland):

Awesome episode last night! I think there's a big twist in for next week, and since my wife and I saw most of the episodes in a row over like three days, I think I know what it is: (possible spoil alert):

I think Saul is the mole!! He's fluent in Arabic; in episode 5, he said something like "Don't kick my rug" when Carrie nudged it with her foot in his office; and one time he picked up the phone after getting up from the floor and Carrie asked why he was out of breath. He was probably praying.

So he probably slipped the terrorist the razor blade that one time (although I think Brody could have done it too), but I’m sure he definitely warned that terrorist couple that they were being flushed out; Brody had no knowledge of that operation so he couldn’t have warned them. But, does Saul know about Brody? I can’t tell. And something tells me that the vest isn’t for Brody, but probably for someone else.

Edit: Also, he failed the lie detector the first time!

Regardless, this is an awesome show!! One episode left!!

So I think the reasoning behind the $100 off a 4G phone for the midwest has been explained, with the headline of this story.

Higher salt prices could mean bumpy roads ahead | abc7chicago.com

It may not be mentioned in the story, but Verizon understands it is all the grains of salt this forum is taking which has caused this dilemma, and are trying to make it right for those of you who will be affected the most ;)

Sorry to hear that, I've had my Droid X since July 1 of 2010 and it's been dropped twice, but it's always been in a case.

And your experience single handedly has made me reconsider going caseless.

As drop-resistant as plastic phones are, I don't know if any phone will match the durability of the OG Droid. My friend threw his at a wall (several times) until the top and bottom half were no longer connected besides the cables running between them. Still worked fine with no power/volume buttons and duct taped together for a month or so.

Quite likely. Well Negri said 12/16 is when their shipment arrives, right? Maybe that's telling us something...

On second though, agree. Also, I figure with all the different stores in the DC region, I'm bound to get to one that will have stock on the street date. I'd rather just go straight to Verizon and buy it and have it in my hands that day.

Quietly place back in box on Wednesday and return to the store you purchased from. Tell them that morally, you just can't keep the phone knowing that it hasn't been released yet and you are concerned for their store, and the jobs of those who sold it to you. Walk away...

On Thursday, purchase new phone at new location.

Take this FWIW because it seems like some CSRs are totally clueless, but:

Dale: Hello. Thank you for visiting our chat service. May I help you with your order today?
Scott: Hi Dale, I saw that some customers in the Midwest region have received offers in the mail for a $100 discount when upgrading from a 3G smartphone to a 4G smartphone. I was wondering if I would be eligible for that discount as well.
Dale: Oh my. That promotion ended back in October. I do apologize.
Scott: Are you sure? One of my friends got the discount in his mailbox the other day. It said it's valid until 12/31.
Dale: Ah okay. Perhaps it is something different. Were there special instructions on how to get this discount? A number to call?
Scott: Well it did have a code on it (CH4GE) but it said to show it when purchasing in a store.
Dale: Let me check that to see if it would work online.
Scott: Ok, thank you.
Dale: No results were found for CH4GE. I do apologize.
Scott: And you don't have any such promotion showing up in your system?
Dale: No and I checked our main database and the website itself.
Dale: Since I do not have full access to that information, I am unable to get that for you. What I can do though is get you the number over to our Customer Care Department who would be more than happy to get that for you today, Is that okay with you?
Scott: I've called the Customer Service number inquiring about the discount but they said they couldn't apply it to my account.
Scott: Thanks for your help though!
Dale: You are most welcome. I guess it is only valid in the store.

So I ask again, for those who did get the $100 discount applied to your account, can you explain exactly how you went about doing so? Would be massively helpful :D

Yep. If the GN doesn't become available Thursday, I'm probably going to pick up a Rezound then return it when the GN is available. (Trusting that the GN _will_ drop before 1/15).

Taking this chance to repost a question I asked a couple pages back...

Anyone know if we also have an extended time frame to cancel our contract altogether?

I'm still not 100% committed to Verizon, and I'd rather stay that way unless it's with a phone I love to death.
