5.10.605.9 Update

OTA updates are cellular only (not wifi). Are you connected to a VZW tower when you check for updates?

I spoke with Verizon Level 2 customer service on Friday. After a few minutes, he "confirmed" that HTC is putting the update out, and that it has not been pushed to all phones yet. He claims that I am up to date with the 4.08.605.3 software. While his two statements appear to be contradictory, and while I don't necessarily believe him, I will give it a few more weeks before I call again.

When you hit check new does it show the circle with the arrow pointing down inside of it & show the words OTA Device Management? In the notification bar?

Let me know, I might have something for you to try, it's a longshot...

That is exactly what it does. Then nothing happens. Any help would be appreciated.

hit menu> settings> call and then under preferred network does it have CDMA set as preferred network? Or gsm?
I suggest , with help from hilmar2k on this one, setting it as CDMA preferred network and trying again...

Let me know, I have some instructions for a download failed, that involves clearing some Gapp caches that *might* help...
Get back with me...
It would seem to me that this update would have had a chance to get out to everyone by now...

My wife never did get this update. So last week her clock stopped working and decided to do a factory reset. After she did the reset she did a check for new and this update came through.

I had the phone set to CDMA already. I just changed to global, then back to CDMA, and still nothing.

So it seems....

Oh well, it was a thought. I still wonder if you have to be on a VZW tower to download the update.

I would assume that you do, since it comes from their servers...to your specific phone model in their database or whatever...

So, you have already did a factory reset, right? And still nothing...

No dice hilmar2k, on the cdma/gsm network issue.

I've done one (possibly 2) since December 31.

Any other advice? You mention something about GAPP cache

Running Go Launcher, could that be a source of my problems? I will set Sense as my default and try again (not sure why I did not think to try this before).

You can try what this page suggests for the download failed error of you want, it *might* work... g apps are any google based apps that are on the phone...

Android Market: “Download unsuccessful” Error Fix | Technipages

After you do what it says I would clear the data/cache on the Smith. micro .com app, this the the app responsible for running update checks.

Caution: if you decide to do this all of the data associated with the apps you clear will be erased, like your browser bookmarks, Android market data, maps and so fourth, just so you know, you will have to start fresh on them, and the update still might come through. Just so you know that I don't want to create more problems for you, ya know...
If that doesn't work then I guess I will have to assume that the update still has not been pushed out to you yet...

Now that I think about it, this wouldn't do anything out of the ordinary that a factory reset wouldn't do, I'm kinda at a loss now...

I also tried everything suggested by everyone above......still no update. I'm actually considering the download, but before I do, I have a couple questions:

1. Does this fix the bug where notifications and ringtones change themselves randomly?
2. Can someone remind me how to install the update after I download it and move it to the root of my sd card?

Thanks!!

I have the same problem with getting the 5.10.605.9 update. I've tried the factory reset and making sure I'm not roaming. Tried different locations and WiFi. Tried the *#2432546#*#* and get 'checkin succeeded'. Still no luck. I'm not a Verizon customer so I can't walk into a corporate store - I'm a Page Plus customer that uses the Verizon network and my INC2 is branded with 'Verizon'.
My Android version 2.3.4 and the software version currently installed is 4.08.605.3.
I've called HTC support and they are not able to figure it out.
Anyone one in the same boat who figured it out?

I might be totally wrong but I don't think you can get a update without having Verizon service since updates are sent out for customers only not Verizon network users.

Have you received past updates on your current provider?

I did have a Motorola Droid 2 and it grabbed an available update from Verizon while I was activated with Page Plus. I have never been activated with Verizon.
I'm not sure what else I can try. I guess to test that theory (about having to be activated with Verizon) I will have to find someone who can temporarily add my phone to their Verizon account. Does anyone know how easily (or hard) it is to temporarily add a smart phone to an existing Verizon account? What's the cost? etc.

Thanks

This is correct

If you can find a friend on verizon's network with a smartphone you could have that person power down their phone, then activate your phone on their line. I don't know how to get your phone off your plan so that it can be activated on their account. You could call VZ and pretend your friend bought your phone from you or something maybe.
Then hopefully you could get the update.

I would recommend rooting instead. I think that would be easier, less time consuming and more convenient. You can install updates manually that way.

Verizon told me that I could add a second line to activate my Eris so I could troubleshoot my Incredible 2 then drop the second line and only get charged for the day I used it.

Finally received the update today. I tried multiple factory resets with out luck. This morning I tried the Check Status, and it worked. Still downloading at the moment.

I've never rooted before. Where is the best resource/reference site for learning how to root the Inc 2?

Taking a long term approach, what happens if I am rooted and HTC finally release the ICS for the Inc2. Will rooted versions of that ICS release soon appear afterwards?

Cheers,
Pete

I would look at the two sticky threads in "All Things Root" here on the Android Forums.

I'm willing to bet there will be modded versions as well as stock ICS readily available very soon after it is released, if not before it is officially released.

I'll be jumping in the first official ICS ROM available, but am glad I will have the opportunity to go back to gingerbread if I want to.

I'm in the same boat. Just got my DINC2 a month ago and really love it, upgraded from an Eris. I just really wanted to do the 5.10.605.9 update, unable to. I really wanted to remove the bloatware, not sure about rooting it. Using PP also
