OTA updates are cellular only (not wifi). Are you connected to a VZW tower when you check for updates?

I spoke with Verizon Level 2 customer service on Friday. After a few minutes, he "confirmed" that HTC is putting the update out, and that it has not been pushed to all phones yet. He claims that I am up to date with the 4.08.605.3 software. While his two statements appear to be contradictory, and while I don't necessarily believe him, I will give it a few more weeks before I call again.
When you hit check new does it show the circle with the arrow pointing down inside of it & show the words OTA Device Management? In the notification bar?
Let me know, I might have something for you to try, it's a longshot...
That is exactly what it does. Then nothing happens. Any help would be appreciated.
hit menu> settings> call and then under preferred network does it have CDMA set as preferred network? Or gsm?
I suggest , with help from hilmar2k on this one, setting it as CDMA preferred network and trying again...
Let me know, I have some instructions for a download failed, that involves clearing some Gapp caches that *might* help...
Get back with me...
It would seem to me that this update would have had a chance to get out to everyone by now...
Thanks for the input. I plan on doing a factory reset tonight. I will report the results.
No dice hilmar2k, on the cdma/gsm network issue.
So it seems....
Oh well, it was a thought. I still wonder if you have to be on a VZW tower to download the update.
So, you have already did a factory reset, right? And still nothing...

I've done one (possibly 2) since December 31.
Any other advice? You mention something about GAPP cache
Running Go Launcher, could that be a source of my problems? I will set Sense as my default and try again (not sure why I did not think to try this before).
You can try what this page suggests for the download failed error of you want, it *might* work... g apps are any google based apps that are on the phone...
Android Market:
Is it possible that the Verizon customer support person I spoke to was actually correct???? Gasp.

I have the same problem with getting the 5.10.605.9 update. I've tried the factory reset and making sure I'm not roaming. Tried different locations and WiFi. Tried the *#2432546#*#* and get 'checkin succeeded'. Still no luck. I'm not a Verizon customer so I can't walk into a corporate store - I'm a Page Plus customer that uses the Verizon network and my INC2 is branded with 'Verizon'.
My Android version 2.3.4 and the software version currently installed is 4.08.605.3.
I've called HTC support and they are not able to figure it out.
Anyone one in the same boat who figured it out?
I might be totally wrong but I don't think you can get a update without having Verizon service since updates are sent out for customers only not Verizon network users...
I did have a Motorola Droid 2 and it grabbed an available update from Verizon while I was activated with Page Plus. I have never been activated with Verizon.
I'm not sure what else I can try. I guess to test that theory (about having to be activated with Verizon) I will have to find someone who can temporarily add my phone to their Verizon account. Does anyone know how easily (or hard) it is to temporarily add a smart phone to an existing Verizon account? What's the cost? etc.
Thanks
I would recommend rooting instead. I think that would be easier, less time consuming and more convenient. You can install updates manually that way.
I've never rooted before. Where is the best resource/reference site for learning how to root the Inc 2?
Taking a long term approach, what happens if I am rooted and HTC finally release the ICS for the Inc2. Will rooted versions of that ICS release soon appear afterwards?
Cheers,
Pete
