Root [CWM][ROOT][RZR] Root & Recovery AIO - UPDATED 2-19-2012

i am in no way responsible for what you do to your phone. Use at your own risk!

at long last we now have a custom recovery for the lg esteem, actually make that 2 recoveries, clockworkmod and raidzero. ;) both are release candidates and still have a couple of minor issues to be worked out yet.

note: Now works with zvc and zvb!!!!

  • usb mass storage just wont work.

  • factory reset from settings doesnt work correctly, do it from cwm.

the zip contain scripts for windows, linux, and osx (intel based), just download to your pc, unzip, and run the appropriate one for your os. Both zips are all in one, meaning it will root and install cwm or rzr in one step.

  • download zip to your computer
  • unzip zip
  • connect phone to computer via usb cable
  • turn on and put into internet connection mode
  • make sure debugging is enabled in settings > applications > development.
  • run the install script for your os

booting into recovery with the button combo is a lil tricky (gonna work on this) vol +- and power from power off, it will boot to the lg reset screen, press power 3 times, dont freak out, it wont erase your data ;), and then recovery will appear. Some roms are already in the works n will be ready soon, one including reboot to recovery options in the power menu. ;)

  • button combo: Vol +- and power, press power 3x at lg reset screen.
  • app - quick boot
  • app - rom manager - no other features will work until cwm is submitted and officially built with rm support by koush.

now for the goods ;)

note: I will be updating rzr as i get the few issues left fixed, but after that i wont be supporting it due to what all i already have on my plate. It is a nice recovery tho with a ton of features. Not for the novice or complete n00b imo tho. ;)

people to thank other than myself ;)

Interdepth- dev -transform - help and assistance in brain storming to find n fix for reboot issue.
djrbliss - for root for zvc. Be sure to show hime your appreciation.

Hey pg just a suggestion but in the recovery it would be a good idea to stick a read only bad block scan for internal and external memory.
e2fsck -c /dev/blahblah. I think some people got some unreadable spots in nand and those phone hang quite a bit longer than normal.

I was having that exact same problem you were having but with Option 3. All you have to do is a factory wipe in the CWM mod and you will get your sound and vibration back. In the RZR recovery (Option 3) Go to the Wipe menu, then select data, then your all set! Reboot your phone. Under the Original CWM (Option 2) just go to Wipe/Factory then reboot. That's it. That is how you will get your sound and vibration back. :D

ok will try it .. thank you very much for answering....

Flashed GSE 2 and was having problems installing apps, I tried to do a sys restore and now I got my self into CWM boot loop, every time I try to reboot to system it will go back to recovery. Can any one help me here?????

I don't write the recovery just port it to the phone. That would a question for koush.

i have a few things to ask,i am new to the forum so hey whats up. Love the work i can say u fixed my phone no sound from stock rom, but is there any way i can remove the cwm5028 from phone.it has to go back for repairs

In the aio recovery, there is a option that will unroot, and restore the original recovery on your phone. When you click on the .bat file, enter option number 6. That will unroot and get rid of the custom recovery for you. Hope this helps!:D

Installed the recovery using RM and was able to make a backup of the current ROM
Rebooted and worked as normal.
Downloaded the GSE-1.5 to the SD card to do the next step.
Tried to reboot to recovery using QuickReboot.
I got the admiration inside the triangle.
To get it to boot normal again I had to:
Turn it off
Volup/down+pwr to get to to the black screen asking to wipe; select cancel
While trying to reboot press pwr several times until the metro animation showed
Note: this sequence does not work if the phone is charging.
Now the question: I have read here that there were several typos in the installation batch through Windows. Is it possible that the same happens with the file that RM downloads to install the recovery?

Umm, I installed the clockwork recovery, and my phone is stuck in a boot loop... not to recovery, just a regular boot loop. As far as I can tell, I cannot get into recovery at all. Yes, I searched the forum to see if anyone else had the same issue; no dice. Anyone have any suggestions or help? I'd really appreciate it :)

I wouldn't call myself a complete n00b, as back in the day I had my G1 and did all sorts of madness with it... back before they had one click root access for Android phones XD

Turn off your phone and then press the power button and the middle of the volume buttons. When you see the LG logo release the power button. Then when it asks you if you want to do a clear all data press the power button I believe it is 3 times. Then you should be in recovery. Then wipe data and reflash your rom.

Yayyy, thank you so much! I was able to get into recovery after all... could be my fabulous nails prevented me from pressing the volume button correctly :P

I'll have to flash a ROM when I get home... as the recovery has no USB mass storage, I am SOL at the moment. As long as I can get into recovery, I'm good ::whew::
