There's a laptop sale at Walmart.

:D :D :D .. sorry, that was too easy to resist.

so ummm how did ya do it? W4lly.....

did you do it on yer mac? pc?

tempted ooooh so tempted

It doesn't matter if you're mac or pc. It's just putting a .zip file on your SD card's root folder.

It's really not that hard. Just be aware that there are some bugs, and the risk is yours.

ya i found that....

what bugs? anything major?

I'm actually disappointed that this has been leaked and that Verizon is dragging their feet. I've been hearing about the 2.1 OS for the Eris before I even purchased my phone. I have a cold chill running down my spine with memories of the 5.0 OS coming soon for my Blackberry Curve 8330 and Verizon never released it, but there were several "leaked" versions on the web. I have downloaded this update for now but I will not install it until the end of the QTR. I am still hoping for an official OTA release.

I'm not buying all of these theories about HTC/Verizon leaking this on the web to "quite" people down. If they were having issues pushing the OTA they do have a website of there own people could download from with a password. Now us landing on the moon is a whole other debate : )

yeah there is no conspiracy.

whoever leaked it on XDA, probably a tester posing as a chinamen just to cover himself (i can't blame them) did it for the community, that is it.

yay happy day! A nice early bday present!

Where do I go to download it?
When the final update rolls out, will I still get that on my phone even though I have the leaked 2.1 download on it already?

There a many links floating around of the update.

If the OTA is the same as loaded on your phone, there will be no change...

Has anyone been able to get Google Earth running? It just won't work on my phone. I install it, which takes up over 20+mb of space, and it won't run when I click on it. It just goes back to my home screen.

I too am wondering if the official release will not be available to those devices with this leaked version.

Good luck, folks.

if the "official" update comes out would it not eventually be made available to dl and install from a pc? Couldn't those that miss the ota because we have the leak be able to flash or replace what we have now with the "official" update?

Is rolling back to 1.5 even possible?

yes and yes

i would put $20 on the fact that when the OTA comes around it will show up on leaked phones

and i would wager the same that the official package will show up on PDC's site.

Rolling back to 1.5 is not possible

Anyone that has had a problem with an upgrade can always downgrade back to the older version and retry the OTA update.

How to manually update your Droid Eris | Android Central

I had my phone go really screwy and downgraded it a while back and did the update in stages. This will wipe all data on the phone so back it up first.

once you do that it'll do any of the updates that have already been pushed to the phone.

I've done this twice in the past with newer roms to get back to the second update we got. It should work. It does a full wipe and puts the older version on. The phone then immediately notifies you that you have an update available and it's the third patch.

After reading the last 5 pages of nerdgasm (no judgements here I'm sporting 2.1 wood as well,) I think I'm going to give it to the end of the month and hope I get my OTA update by then. Reasons:

1. I'm concerned about my ability to get future OTA updates if I install what is clearly a custom modded (but still mostly official) 2.1 ROM. I want 2.1 really badly, but I'm not sure I want to wait/rely on custom ROMs for all future official OS updates.

2. The different MD5 hashes between this update (pre-patch) and the official update that NKT has been toying with means that this is either older, or they're still making minor adjustments to the final version prior to pushing it out to the masses. When I DO finally get 2.1 I want to make sure it's the most thoroughly tested, stable and tweaked version. Maybe I'll even be able to upgrade with all my current data and settings!

3. By waiting, we can eventually do a compare and contrast, and possibly see if the two versions have any actual differences.

That said if at the end of the month 2.1 hasn't been pushed out to the rest of us, I may re-evaluate my thinking. ;-) In any case, I'm thrilled you all are enjoying it, it adds real value to our devices, and I hope I can join your ranks soon!

+1 agreed. I have the 1.5 MR from Android Central and I have this leaked 2.1 so really I could update and then go back to 1.5 if I have to but there are issues you guys are having that I'll decide to go till March 26th or whatever the new date is and reevaluate installing it again or not. I've updated leaked several leaked Blackberry OS before but Android is new to me. I'll just wait.
