I'm posting this as a new thread instead of the MikG 3.1 ROM thread because although obviously related to the ROM I thought it best to have this issue "out in the open" as apparently I am not the only one suffering from this issue.
That being said, here are the problems that I have been having and the results of some of my own troubleshooting. I wanted to get opinions as to what might be the current problem and suggestions going forward...
For those of you having reboot issues there has been some extensive discussion and suggestions over at theMikMik forums and these particular threads:
Random Hot Reboots
[GUIDE] - How to fix Random Hot Reboot Issues
To quickly recap, some people have suffered from random "hot reboots"...not a full shutdown and reboot but sorta like a "wake from sleep" type of reboot, faster than a "restart."
With regard to my issue, I wanted to try and determine the specific cause(s) of my problem: bad data on card, bad card, something else??
First let me say that I KNOW that (1) I wiped properly (following the various fantastic guides and info in this and other forums) and (2) I did NOT have a bad ROM/zip.
So here is what I did. At FIRST I flashed the ROM and then started reinstalling apps from Titanium...apps AND DATA. My reboots started. Installed way too many things/variable to determine where my problem was. The suggestion was to NOT install any DATA but just the app. I did that but then tried to ONLY restore settings/data from within the app itself. For example, my ChompSMS text messaging app has a backup feature within the app, Minimalistic Text allows you to save the settings of the widgets you create, etc. I STILL had reboots.
I then reformatted my card and put the data back, hoping that the data was ok but reformatting might help. Still had reboots.
I then decided to go really REALLY slow at the suggestion of someone at theMikMik forums and JUST INSTALL 3.1 and NOTHING ELSE, let it sit for a while and see if THAT ALONE was stable. I used the phone in that state for almost a FULL DAY...NO PROBLEMS. Made a nand and now I have a "base" to return to.
Then I incrementally installed ONE APP AT A TIME from the Market....fresh clean, NOT from Titanium backups. I started with Titanium Backup Pro as my first Market app, my thinking that that app was one of the most dependent on the SD card, reading from and writing to with the backups and what not. Left that one for many hours. NO PROBLEMS so, interestingly (to me) didn't seem that Titanium Backup was a possible cause for my reboots.
Next I installed Quick Settings (notification menu add-on to control sync, brightness, wifi, etc). Tried for few hours. NO problems there.
I then installed QuickPic (gallery alternative). Launched the app and I noticed it was kinda sorta taking a little bit longer time to generate thumbnails for the pictures on my card. Launched the regular gallery, came back to QuickPic and seemed to be ok. HOWEVER, WITHIN A FEW MINUTES after the thumbs propagated, GOT A REBOOT!!
So, went back to my nand and restored. Everything fine. Reinstalled Titanium, Quick Settings and a new app to test "Task List Pro" (to do list). THAT was FINE. Then installed ChompSMS (messaging app) and THAT CAUSED PROBLEMS...reboots again.
So, does NOT seem to be one specific app causing a problem. Was interesting that QuickPic, in scanning and reading FROM THE CARD had a problem once thumbs were generated. With ChompSMS, I'm not sure about the access to the card but that caused a reboot as well. With that one, I think I restored some settings from within the app (not using titanium).
Either way, MY CONCLUSION, is that accessing and reading data on the card or using data on the card is causing the reboots. It is NOT ALL DATA...the Task List Pro to do list I had backed up caused NO PROBLEM...but QuickPic thumbnail generation and ChompSMS did cause problems.
So what to do now?? I'm thinking the card itself might be OK but the data banged up....anyone agree?? I'm thinking of reformatting and then NOT PUTTING ANY DATA BACK ON THE CARD. Good thought?? The problem with that, however, is that I really REALLY want to have access to my Titanium Backup backups/archive. I have stuff on there that isn't available in the Market or otherwise. I was thinking of reformatting the card and then putting ONLY my nand backup files and Titanium on there and see what's up.
I received one response so far at theMikMik forums suggesting that because it was MORE THAN ONE APP causing a problem with the reboots that is THE PHYSICAL CARD rather than the data. Anyone here in agreement with that assessment?? Any thoughts about where to go from here??
I'm going to reformat the card and NOT put any data back on it except my nandroid folder and Titanium's files to further test a data/physical card issue. I'm almost hoping it is THE CARD because then I can get a new card, reformat, transfer data and be up and running....THEORETICALLY!!
THANKS FOR ANY THOUGHTS/INPUT!!
