Root Very disgruntled

Nice. Quick question for you - any chance you'd think about changing the title of the thread? I know you were very disgruntled and frustrated at the time of posting, but I hope we've been able to make you feel better about being rooted :).

I wouldn't want anyone to miss out on the thrill and freedom of rooting because they just looked at the title of the thread without reviewing its content. Just a thought :).

I've love to, but this new Rom force restarts my phone probably 6-7 times a day now. I literally cannot catch a break, not one ROM has worked well on my phone. Unless this stops or a kernel proves to solve the problem (I'm highly doubtful right now) I'd still prefer the stock phone.

And oh boy is the battery life bad with the Mik Rom, I'm hoping as the kernel "settles" it gets better.

Glad you got it working. MikG has kept me from flashing anything else as of late. I just keep coming back to it. Pretty, customizable, functional, great kernel options, tons of available themes....it's just the total package for a ROM.

man, that has got to be frustrating.

Just thinking out loud here.

Rooting the phone, being s-off, per se, isn't what is causing your problems.

Some people are having problems with the Mikg3.x series of roms. I am not, been running wonderfully on all of them.

Are your running the stock kernel or did you flash a custom one? Do you have a nand of before you flashed custom?

If you are on a custom kernel, those can cause you various problems. Are you using setcpu? what settings is it running?

Did you try running the stock kernel for any length of time? How was it?

This rom uses a2sd natively, you partitioned, right? what class did you say your card was? A lower class card would probably give you issues if you are doing anything intensive.

What are you doing when it fc's? Is it on any particular app? Are you really multi-tasking?

What do you have syncing? If you have it all going all the time, you can watch the battery go down. do you have wifi or 4g on all the time?

There are a lot of variables that could be causing the problem, including your phone itself, the battery, the sd card...

Let me know if that jogs anything in your mind. I'd like to hear how it runs on just plain 3.1 without a custom kernel.

That failing, there is a version of the latest stock rom that you could flash in our roms and kernels sticky as well. If you were on that and it messed up, I would almost feel for sure that it was your phone itself that was causing the problem.

i am getting ready to go out for a little, think about this stuff. Let us know what we can do to help.

Thanks for the response! I am running Stock Mik3.11 and having the "hot reboots" that everyone is complaining about. It seems to happen about 20 times a day, regardless of what I'm doing (using the phone, not using the phone, etc). I am using the stock Kernel (which I get about 6-8 hours of VERY minimal use before battery goes dead), I have the card partitioned, it's a 16 GB Class 10 card. I've literally done nothing to the phone other than do brand new clean installs of all my apps, I didn't "back up" anything via Titanium, just wiped the card and reinstalled everything. I've found that any application I install I have to pull the battery or the reboots get worse.

The phone is basically unusable at this point, different Roms simply do not work on this phone. I've tried 3 now and they all suck, with this newest one being by far the worst. :(

Whats your recovery? how are you wiping between flashes? Where are you downloading ROMS to (ie. Phone, Computer) Are you allowing them to fully transfer from Computer to Phone if Downloading to Comp? Have you tried just wiping everything except SDCARD manually 3x?

Here is supposed to be a link to latest stock rom.

[ROM] 4.67 - Rooted - Optimized - Sharing means caring - xda-developers

How about backing up and wiping appropriately and flash it?

You are still on old radios too, huh? Don't think that would be a problem.

There is a version of previous stock you might try too.

Let us know. Hang in there.
Actually - upgrading the radios, and then updating PRL & Profile might also help. Sometimes the old radios don't work well with the newer drivers, and can cause instability. At this point, it definitely couldn't hurt to try.

I did wonder if it could be a problem. Wonder about others in 3.1 having reboots too.
I have the new radios, myself. Don't seem to do much but maybe why I didn't have that problem.

Whats your recovery?
ARMON RA

how are you wiping between flashes?
Cache, Delvic & Data 3 times plus running Super Wipe. I wiped the entire SD card as well.

I downloaded them from the MikMik forum and checked the DM5 both after download and after transfer to my phone.

Have you tried just wiping everything except SDCARD manually 3x?
Yes

Hi there...

I was alerted to this thread a few minutes ago by DUSTWUN77 and took the time to skim EVERYTHING that has been posted since the OP.

Just want to let you know that YOU ARE NOT ALONE!! Everything...and I mean EVERYTHING that you have mentioned that I quoted above is happening to me. I'm coming from MikG 2.56 and had ZERO problems. Flashed 3.1 and then 3.11 and reboot reboot reboot. At the "height" of my problems I can have the phone sitting next to me and have the reboots FIVE TIMES IN 10 MINUTES!!

However, further below I have linked the **SINGLE ONE ONLY ROM THAT HAS NOT REBOOTED FOR ME**...

Let me also tell you that your wiping and flashing process that you are doing is ENTIRELY CORRECT and pretty much the same as me (wiping everything except your SD-card up to THREE times. I follow this suggested method posted at theMikMik forum here Can we flash over the old ROM? )

Just want to tell you...HANG IN THERE!! I'm working "parallel" with you trying to fix my situation with the reboots. I know that I have had almost a year of being rooted and smooth running and you haven't had the "luxury" of knowing how GOOD rooting can be but if there is anyone out there who can say this it is me and I FEEL YOUR PAIN!!

But like I said HANG IN THERE!!! I got threads and friends here at AF and at theMikMik working on this. I'm trying kernals and wipes and reformats with the card to get to the bottom of this. If you want to follow my reboot post here at AF here's the link:

If you want to follow this issue at theMikMik forums where I'm also trying to figure stuff out, here are two additional links:

Random Hot Reboots

[GUIDE] - How to fix Random Hot Reboot Issues

That all being said and with ALLLLLLLL the reboot troubleshooting that I have been trying to work through I HAVE FOUND ONE ROM THAT HAS WORKED WITHOUT REBOOTS!! It is a clean nice "basic" ROM based upon Sense 1.0. Bit "older" feel if you're used to the Sense 2.0+++ stuff and MikG that is around but **IT WORKED FOR ME**.

The ROM is Tommy's Classic v005 which can be downloaded here:

Index of /android/classic/stable

The "main" Classic ROM page is here:

EVO Classic

The ROM you want to download is at the bottom "classic-v005-12-27-finale.signed.zip" It is basic but CLEAN and WORKS...and it does have some tweaks. You'll have to install the Google apps because it is STRIPPED DOWN and you'll have to install a set of ringtones and notification sounds (for some reason...and I've only used the ROM for the first time TODAY...there is only ONE ringtone and ONE notification sound...does anyone know if this is supposed to be the case??).

Throughout this WHOOOOOOOOLE hot reboot issue I have been having since 3/3/12 last weekend this is THE ONLY ROM that I have tried that gave me NO ISSUES. What I did was load this ROM, set it up and make a NANDROID BACKUP. So, as I continue to play with MikG issues, I have another WORKING ROM that I can go back to.

So, GOOD LUCK...I know, I KNOW, I KNOW that this is frustrating and the LAST thing that you want to try is flashing ANOTHER FRIGGIN' ROM but PLEASE try the Tommy Classic v005 I linked to above...it's the ONLY one for me!!

Keep your chin up!!!...and keep posting here...one or most likely MORE of us will be here to help. PM me if you want or follow the other threads I'm involved with. I'll post back here too as necessary!!

BTW...I forgot...credit where credit due...BIG SHOUT OUT to Rxpert83 who hooked me up with this ROM...first one working for me in over a week!! THANKS!!

I haven't had any issues with the newest MikG either, but I usually flash around pretty quick, can't seem to stay on any rom for too long. :p

I'm in the same opinion as the Cap'n, if the rom is based on an OTA version, you should have the radios to match that rom, or newer. Even having newer radios than what a rom is built off of "may" cause issues, but I haven't run across any yet.

Also I've experienced serious battery drain in the past with certain PRI versions, especially the 1.90_003. I had to downgrade to the 1.77_003 PRI and NV to get my battery to stabilize. Since then I've updated to the latest, 2.15_003, and I haven't had any issues. Might be another option to try to see if it stops the reboots. What do yinz think?

yeah i have the old froyo radios now on my evo and i have yet to have mikg or any other rom reboot on me yet. of course i am flashing a lot lately.

You know, technically I'm having the same good fortune as you guys. Of course my time frame for "flashing a lot lately" and "not staying on any ROM for too long" would have to be about 30 minutes...if that's your time frame, then I'm reboot-free too!! :D:D;)

Out of curiosity.

Scudder have you tried an AOSP ROM? I wonder if you would have the same issue. It could be a phone issue and not so much a ROM issue. Of course I'm speculating as I haven't used MikG in forever. I know most here love it but I didn't really care for it back then and haven't worried about trying it out since then. I just wonder if AOSP would give you the same trouble or would it be more like Tommytomato.

Have not...not for any particular reason other than, I guess, at the time I went from stock rooted ROM to try my first custom ROM, MikG was the one suggested to me. I was running WITHOUT PROBLEM and liking the ROM from versions 2.56 to 2.61. So, it was just natural to continue with the ROM I was used to. Then the problems with 3.XX came up as you are well aware of...

That being said, I have SOME NEWS....I am RUNNING MikG 3.11 WITHOUT REBOOTS (so far!!!) Check the next post....

I apologize in advance but I wrote A BOOK in the link below on my latest SUCCESS with actually running MikG 3.11 with NO REBOOTS!!...so far at least...for 12+ hours!!

I'll just provide the link to the other thread rather than cut and paste my novel because (1) this thread and the OP has some other information about problems and assistance with problems with rooting "in general" and (2) my issue has to do specifically with MikG 3.XX reboots as does my thread.

Here is the link to my specific post within the thread:

SOME NEWS!!...and Progress?? I'm RUNNING 3.11-NO REBOOTS!!

For those of you who want a quick synopsis before following the link to read SPECIFIC and some IMPORTANT considerations...I tried various types of card formatting and reformatting and transfer/leaving out data. The suggestion at theMikMIk forum was to try to format using a "non-LBA" option. That option was available to Windows users but I have a MAC. I could not find that option with any software on the internet so I decided for the hell of it to use my Apple Disk Utilities "Erase" option built into the OS.

Well, though I have NO CLUE what PRECISE format the "MS-DOS (FAT 32)" I selected on my Mac, at the moment, my phone and the ROM seem to like it and are behaving! :D

As I said above, there are specifics, more information and some IMPORTANT considerations going forward and questions that need to be answered so head over to the link above to read more on my results.

In any event I'm HOPING this is some progress....:D:D

I ran with MIK3.1 rom with stock kernel and anthrax zzztestzzz. I had an occasional reboot with all antennas on, but it's a great rom. I switched over to Nitrous rom v1.4.4 with anthrax zzztestzzz kernel and it's working great form me. It's based on sense 1.0, (sometimes the simpler the better). Goto to xda look for the Nitrous rom and try it. Do the wiping necessary to install a new rom. Yes it sucks, reinstalling apps. I would suggest performing a rom backup once your new rom is up a running, the way you want it, just in case
