Root Well, lets get the ball rolling

Got mine today. Activated my phone and got an error 67 and also 123 so had to call em back and they gave me spc to do reset

What program did you use and did you do it in download mode?

We used LGNPST and yes it was in download mode. But, we only did it in download because we werent able to get into modem mode like you can. I've posted a guide with links and stuff, but if you're going to do it make sure you do the modem mode instead of download mode before you flash.

Dang that opens up some goodies don't it. Tried it plugged into wife's laptop but most everything failed. Hopefully my charger gets here soon so I can get back to helping.

yea, when you do it be sure that you click your comm port then connect and also you are doing this fresh because sometimes lngpst or w.e holds data and it fails alot

OK, am back though my dog is very ill. She just turned 16 and family is rather against medicating, can't blame them though I'm researching alternatives.

Anyways, totally agree with AndyOpie and our moderator's post. I think if you want to root regardless it should be responsible. Without an SPC I can see a lot of people completely wiping out the phone using emergency mode then having trouble getting back to working stock and then they return the phone. I know this may sound preachy but I personally feel that is dishonest. It is also dishonest to call and get the SPC, but in this case I feel that is a lesser evil especially if you're determined to root anyways. That said I might be preaching to the choir. I feel most people here would understand and take the extra precautionary steps.

Salvy, Thanks for the file and going to look at the files as soon as I can download them.

kwknott, do you have the means to upload a file that is around 200mb to public storage?

If so and you do not mind doing a memory dump please follow these instructions from an earlier post

For others who also have an SPC the mem dump how to is as follows and pulled from this thread Dump Your Phone Memory - xda-developers
(note you need to open debug from the qpst menu or bin folder and you do not need to reboot from download/emergency mode)

  1. Connect your phone to your computer using a USB cable and start in download mode (from a powered off phone, press down on BOTH volume up and volume down then connect the usb cable to the phone. It should be in download mode)
  2. Open Device Manager.
  3. Ports > LGE Android Platform USB Serial Port > Properties > Port Settings > Advanced > COM port number
  4. Make a note of your COM port number.
  5. Download and install QPST v2.7.
  6. Open "QPST Configuration".
  7. In the "Ports" tab, if your com port isn't listed, select "Add New Port" and write in your com port as "COM#" (# being the number you noted in step 4). Verify that your com port is listed.
  8. Make sure your phone appears in the the "Active Phones" tab.
  9. Run the "Memory Debug" program from the QPST mail folder (You may have to go to either the start menu or the directory qpst was installed in.)
  10. With your phone connected via USB and selected via the "Browse" button, press "Get Regions".
  11. It will show you a bunch of options. Leave them all checked and select "SaveTo" and pick an empty folder to dump your phone memory to. This will take up a little over 500 megs.
  12. It will take a good amount of time to finish (possibly 30 min to an hour).

See what I can do. My laptop is out of order till my charger comes but I can try at work or see if I can pry my wifes away from her this evening

Edit... Don't look like I'll have time at work so will try this evening. I started to do it and got called out of office. If anyone else wants to get a memory dump before I can get to it this evening you don't need your spc to do it.

Sorry the upload took a while and so i walked away and forgot I didnt post it.

4shared folder - Mem Dump

That is the whole memdump so everything is there, good luck and sorry again.

PS: You may have to sign up for 4sync to download that but everyone else gives me problems so I use 4sync and free....

AndyOpie, I'm going to have to disagree, the simple act of just rooting the phone does not void your warranty in many places. It depends on a combination of local laws, carrier contracts and the provided warranty.

Yes, fraud is bad, and is what I am trying to avoid.

When you root/or attempt to root your phone you automatically void your warranty. When you do something to your phone while rooted/or attempting to root that breaks your phone, it's your mistake and you should pay the cost.
Fraud is when you tell the carrier that the phone is messed up, but deliberately leave out the part about you rooting it/ tying to root it (voiding the warranty) and being the cause of it being broke, in order to get a free new phone.

I'm pretty sure this is what olbriar was referring to.
If you still have any questions on this matter and need olbriar to help just PM him. I'm sure he would be more than happy to help. Hopefully I have hit the nail on the head and everybody is pretty clear on the subject.

Thank you for your understanding on this subject.

I believe someone has already touched on this but I think you should abandon the .tot un-root option. I used to do this on my intercept and I ended up changing it from VM to Sprint with no way of going back.

We should get one or two people with jcases root (w/out .tot flashing, if he has one) and instructed them to grab the recovery partition so we can port CWM or something to the device. From here we can create a stock root rom with a system dump. Then create an unroot.zip and a stock-recovery.zip as a way to revert back.

Catch my drift?

Flashing the tot will not change the carrier,

Your's changed, because YOU flashed the WRONG Firmware.

The tot I posted is for the virgin mobile version.

Again, figure out how to flash stock TOT without ruining the phone, and I will release a root, and if I have time build clockwork recovery for the phone.

Which version of lgnpst are you guys using. Looks like for proper nvram read and write you have to use the lab version. The store version apparently doesn't correctly handle nvram. I found a lab version but had issues getting it to load on my wife's laptop but she needed it before I could get it going

I thought the tot you gave us was just an edited lg910 or LG revolution or w.e tot

I'm using the developer version mentioned in this thread

Do I know? Nope.

but I think so.

Im just afraid that it will break my phone and then im ruined lol, I may have just talked myself into doing it, by buying the insurance before I do it. That way it's in no way fraud or illegal or anything too immoral...

I have read a few places to start the process while in android. Since you have spc you can enable diag mode. Lgnpst will reboot the phone into download mode at the correct time.

I was gonna try it but couldn't get lgnpst running on my wife's laptop.

Yea, but I wouldnt even try until tonight. and when I did I'd cry while it happened so that if it failed and It broke I wouldn't be disappointed and if it worked they would be tears of joy, and I would be so happy.

I remember that when you guys did the flash with the .tot you had to do
"*.*" and it says clearly here that that isn't what you should do, and that if you do, you are doing it wrong, so I see that Hash defiantly did it wrong (and im not coming at you has, im just saying.)

A.) Yes you can, VERY EASILY. You must first change the menu. To do this click (Tool) at the top menu. Click (Show Only Old UI). You will notice the upgrade tab will switch from asking for a .CAB file to a .BIN file. Just click on the little folder icon and change the FILE TYPE to .TOT, then select your .TOT file. No need for having to do any hacks or *.* or using the WRONG method to update the device.

The option to .tot flash was never there whenever the phone was in download mode. The upgrade tab was not an option, with or without the old UI. It'll prolly work once it gets into modem mode though.

Not sure, wasn't actually involved in the flashing
