Root About flashing PRLs through CWM

I'm not sure if flashing a radio is technically the same as flashing a PRL, but I have flashed a radio through clockworkmod before. I was wondering if maybe we could do this. Now I know the current method of flashing PRLs requires the use of qpst, adb and all that crap along with the requirement of your msl, but giantpune created a boot image to be able to access the msl file, so is there any way to find a work around? Or maybe if we can just flash the prls through cwm then we won't need to use the msl.

AFAIK there is no workaround. you have to use the msl etc to be able to change the prl. Also... changing the PRL is not the same as flashing a radio. PRL means preferred roaming list- it just tells your device which towers to connect to first for service. if getting the msl is proving to be a challenge i can help u out

Thanks, but I already have my msl, I'm just not able to connect to a PC and use all the programs needed to change my PRL.
 
From my understanding, radio and prl are different. prl tells the phones os what towers it can connect to, and radio tweaks the antenna for better signal and stuff like that. So since prl seems to be more software related(it's basically a list of towers, as opposed to radio changing the phones hardware settings), I'm not sure if it could be flashed without the software running to update it. I suppose it's possible.
 
All the stuff you can do with PC programs and the phone in diag mode can be done right from the phone. The PC programs talk to the kernel. The kernel does something, and sends back a response. So you can make your android program that tells the kernel to do whatever it is that it is told to do to change the prl.

OK, so instead of directly flashing, a program would need to be specifically made for this?
 
...if this is true then show me a program from the phone that can do this. Ive been using QPST and RadioComm for a long time and have never heard of something like that being possible.

Well it does make sense, I don't see why you'd be able to flash a radio, but not a prl with the phone, especially if the later is more software related
 
Please correct me if I'm wrong, but the PRL is stored in NVRAM, which CWM is not capable of writing or is it?
 
i know for some devices there are dialer codes where you can get into those settings and make changes but if youre not on stock rom that option goes out the window. that being said, Im almost certain its not possible to do this from an app on the device itself. If im wrong id like to be directed to said app soi can use it in the future and save myself a bunch of time hacking the msl/spc lolz
 
As I understand it, our kernel and the cwm, and pretty much any other program you interact with on the phone are running on an arm11 chip. There is also an arm9 chip tucked away in there that handles all that NV crap. The kernel is able to send commands off to the arm9 chip and receive a response. So the QPST sends a command, the kernel gets it and sends it to the arm9. This is also how the virtual MSL file I added to my kernel works. When you read that file, the kernel asks the arm9 for your msl and then gives it to the process that asked for it.

The great pune thinks it, therefore it is.

Lol, I can see it being feasible. Maybe there hasn't been a way developed right now, but the phone has to control stuff from the usb port, so I feel like the phone could replicate the messages sent over it. I also think the dev communities resources would be better spent somewhere else though, because most people have access to a computer.

I think it would be cool to have.
You're just trying to hide your impatience of anticipating a custom rom. Lol

Download the source code for our kernel and read it. lge_rapi_client.c, lge_diag_testmode.c, and diagfwd.c are a good place to start.
