Ok, I'm having a strange issue.

Followed everything in OP (outside of timefix, wondering if that could cause the problem).

First reboot into recovery worked wonderfully. Got the screen posted in OP.

Cleared cache, cleared dalvik, back up to internal sd, reboot, just to make sure everything was working properly still, before I decided to install a ROM.

This, however, was what I was greeted with once I rebooted into recovery once again. Above the break are options, the only one available from what I can tell is reboot system now. Below is a yellow text log I believe, and not sure if it's scrollable, but this is letter for letter what it says. I'd take a picture, but my camera is my phone, so..

Now, I can reboot, and get back to my phone, where everything is operating as it was before, still have root, everything is pretty much gravy. Is there a way to fix this, so I can move into the CWM Recovery? I'm using Titanium to reboot/recovery, if that matters, and it's a Sprint model, K 2.6.35.11 - perf, B ZVF.GWK74
 
So just reflash cwm? Total commander wasn't letting me rename or delete the file at first, but after some convincing (our random tapping) i managed to get it renamed. This was after the second time i rebooted and first encountered that screen. Thank you!

EDIT: Doesn't work just use a different file manager like root browser lite.

It actually works just fine, at least it always has for me. On the GUI menu, at the far right on the bottom, if you tap that icon, then add a function, put in the following:

Function type: Internal Command
Command >> 119 Remount
And tap "Ok/Apply", you can use this to remount system folders between R/W and R. Then you should be fine. Once you browse through the File System Root directory enough, you'll get prompter by Superuser to grant permissions to Total Commander. Then you're bueno.
 
well i have followed these steps to a T. i am running terminal em. and cant get past step 4. i have the latest version of cwm in what i believe is the root of my sd. i read through the threads and cant seem to find my answer. i am getting an error saying "md5sum: can't open 'part_13_cwm_9_22_17_32.bin' : No such file or directory" the file is def there. i have re downloaded many times. tried many different combinations of the text in terminal emulator.... does it have something to do with the fact my sd reads.. /mnt/sdcard? also i have included this in my combinations. im hopelessly lost. about to give up. please help... also im new at this.

Have you confirmed, with a file explorer, that the .bin file is in fact stored in /sdcard? It may be in /sdcard/Download or /sdcard/_ExternalSD. Also, make sure that you have busybox installed, and the appropriate binaries that are installed by the busybox app. Keep in mind that /mnt/sdcard and /sdcard are the same directories, and they have the same contents. To save some typing I suggest leaving out the /mnt :P

/sdcard and /mnt/sdcard are the same. But /sdcard is not your removable sdcard, make sure it is on the elite"s internal faux sdcard unless you are entering the location of the removable card.

Since you cant get past step 4 i am guessing you have the file in the wrong location.

i have checked using total command... and i figured that /mnt/sdcard and /sdcard where the same. i was just so desperate that i tried both. i have busybox and its installed but now that you mention it im not 100% if i have all the proper binaries...? btw thank you guys so much for the speedy response

how would i check for proper binaries..? and i have also double checked and confirmed the .bin file is in root of /sdcard

Imo, I would just dd the cwm image to the recovery partition and be done with it. If the file is there it go through, if the download is bad cwm just won't work. And you can just reflash. A md5 check isn't necessary, but recommended.

oh so i can just bypass this step.. k il try. il let you know the outcome. thanks again for the response.:D
 
well steps 5 and 6 worked... but on step 7 i cant locate the w/r file the install-recovery.sh file is in the root of the etc folder... is that the one i want to rename? sorry for all the questions i just dont want to kill my phone

Yes, the /system/etc. Rename the install-recovery.sh to install-recovery.sh.bak (it makes it a backup, just in case you need it). If you cant write to the /systemm/etc folder you need to long press on it and set as r/w (read and write).

If you don't change that file name, it will rewrite the stock recovery when you reboot.

hmm... no matter what i do i cant rename install-recovery.sh.bak. i tried changing properties.. renaming... idk what else to try.
 
The /system/etc folder needs to have r/w permissions. Go to /etc then press the little -r button on the lower task bar and mount as read/write. Then retry renaming.

yeah i did. it has permissions but still wont let me.. its weird. it says "unable to chmod /etc: read-only file system" is there a way to bypass? i appreciate the help man. you,ve brought me alot further from where i was.

Check out my edited post. I had to play around with total commander, its not my usual root explorer.
