umm... as i have already stated the code given by either a phone company or a an app is the same code, trust me i ran through all of this multiple times over a lengthy period of time

when the imei doesnt match the network unlock code itz really annoying and how a company ***** that up is beyond me

As this is not Rooting related, can I suggest that you post your unlock query, giving full details of your handset, where purchased, Version, etc; on the General Forum and see if anyone has a solution to this problem.

I'm a total noob when it comes to rooting but I'm taking the plunge! I have a question though, as I'm not sure which kernel to download. The version on my GT-i9100 is 2.6.35.7-I9100BVKJ4-CL681297root@DELL135 #2 and I can't find a KJ4 on the link provided. Would this one: CF-Root-SGS2_XW_XEF_KJ2-v5.0-CWM5.zip be correct?

Many thanks for the excellent guide: it's making a dummy feel like she might stand a chance of getting it right!

Blimey! That's a really old Gingerbread build. So old in fact, that I know we have had this question before... Just can't think what the solution was as there is no CF-Root kernel for it...

OK, got it! Use the CF-Root-SGS2_XW_XEN_KJ3-v5.0-CWM5.zip.

Good luck... now just carefully read and follow the instructions in posts #1 & #2.

You do have the option of upgrading to JellyBean first and then rooting, look at this guide here

kelis32: I'm just rooting to get rid of an internal memory problem I have so not too bothered about upgrading OS...yet! But if all goes well I may be flashing all sorts...
 
Hi and thanks for this guide, it has been very useful.

I followed the guide as stated and successfully rooted my S2 with the Siyah kernel. However, for some reason the home key no longer works. Can anyone suggest how to fix this? It is more of an annoyance than anything else and the phone seems to be functioning normally otherwise.

Here are the phone details:

Model: I9100
Android version: 4.0.4
Baseband: I9100XXLQ6
Build: IMM76D.XWLPT
CSC: I9100CPWLPA

As for the Home key issue, have you tried the wipes mentioned in Step 4?

Hi ironass,

I did try the wipes with no success but I figured out what I did wrong. I somehow managed to use the Siyah v6.0beta kernel file rather than v5.0.1

Anyway, I re-flashed with the correct version and problem solved!

As far as I'm aware, The GS2 cannot mount its internal sd card using NTFS.
PhilZ kernel offers exFat support.

You may be able to load fuse.ko module with the ntfs-3g command, but I've never tried it personally. And even then, I think the best you could do is the format the external sd card, and not the internal.

If all you want is to be able to see an external NTFS card, then you can install NTFS Mounter This will enable your GS2 to see NTFS formatted cards when connected via an OTG cable

I managed to Mount my SD card in NTFS in Jelly bean with paragon.

How can I unroot if, say, I want to give the phone to samsung for a repair. Using an app(like OTA RootKeeper) from the store is a good idea?

Flash a stock firmware for your device using Odin, and then hope that the repair techs can't tell it's been previously rooted otherwise your warranty will be void.

Using an app(like OTA RootKeeper) from the store is a good idea?

Not really, as the developer's own notes state:
Typical system where the protection won't work:
- HTC Desire
- Samsung Galaxy Spica
- Samsung Galaxy S / SII

You should look at putting a custom rom on now, get rid of all that Samsung bloatware, have a look at the Neat ROM thread, its probably the best custom ROM out there but ultimately the phone is now yours to do with as you please :)
 
Not to often. But i`m surprised that u have so many issues with 6.0b5. I use it since it`s out and have no problems at all...

Probably, as you are already rooted, better asked in the, "Siyah kernel - Dummies Guide", thread which lists all the Siyah releases. ;)

The dates for SGSII Siyah releases are shown, here, against every release.

Siyah 6.0beta4 and beta5 have proved remarkably stable in comparison to a lot of other kernels for JB. You may need to check, if you have used any custom settings in STWeaks, that these are not causing your problems and that you have done a KernelWipe prior to installation.
