Root [Virgin Mobile] Android 4.4.4 d2lte Nightlies

I don't know if anybody else has noticed this. So, Sprint was bought out by a Japanese company called Softbank a few months ago. With all new acquisitions, there will be restructuring. When I started out with Virgin Mobile, I used to get 4G LTE at home with about half signal. Since the buyout, my service has drastically gotten worse. I only get 3G and barely any service at home. My calls are always breaking up and calls have been getting dropped. I could be wrong but I think it's because of the restructuring due to the buyout. And that could also be why others aren't getting 4G LTE at home. I usually use WiFi anyways at home, but the signal difference is really bothering me. My friend also has a Virgin Mobile GS3 and has noticed his signal getting worse too. Has anybody else noticed this?

I had the same problem and it got to the point I sold my S3 and bought an unlocked Moto G Lte and activated it on Straight Talk / AT&T. Service is way better.

I went from 2 to 3 bars and constant 4g at home to being lucky if I got 1 bar and only slow 3g.

How is the Moto G? Everything I've read about it says it's an awesome phone.
 
A new official Dirty Unicorns build was released today. What I ended up doing is making the XDA page for the ROM the only link for it. There's not a separate download link yet for the DU d2lte builds. Instead of posting a new link every time a new build comes out, we can check the XDA page for new builds. I won't be checking the link too often myself, so this will just be easier.

Sorry guys, I had to remove the official Dirty Unicorns builds from the list. I was discussing something with the developer and he resorted to calling me names. I will never support anyone who resorts to name calling. As much as I love Dirty Unicorns, I can't have it on the list because he is the developer for the d2lte builds. I hope you can understand.

Well, that sucks. Sorry guys. I wish they would've left the previous builds there so it would still be available to be used. It was one of my favorites.
 
I added Dirty Unicorns TEST builds made by Alex Cruz. He makes new builds pretty regularly and a new build came out today. The d2lte builds are mixed in with other devices in this page, but there's not really any other link for the builds. So, enjoy.
 
I added the official Dirty Unicorns d2lte builds back to the list. Just couldn't keep it away. Enough of us have been waiting for them to come back. I'm running the latest build now. So far, no overheating, which has been a problem in the past. It comes with the Deathly kernel but I couldn't find an internal kernel tweaker. So, if you download Trickster MOD or something like that for a kernel tweaker, you'll be able to adjust the governor and min/max frequencies.
 
I'm thinking about tying a new rom. I've been running AOKP 5-26 nightly and its been solid but the newest builds give me problems. I'm leaning towards Dirty Unicorns. I use my phone for business so it has to be very stable. No random reboots or other nonsense.

If you want some features and stability, Gummy is very smooth and stable. Same with Nameless. I'm currently using Paranoid Android 4.5 Beta4 build. So far, no overheating or forced reboots. PA build 4.45 would be more stable because everything after that is in Beta right now. The Cyanogenmod Snapshot builds are supposed to be as stable as they come. Omni ROM is incredibly stable.

Dirty Unicorns is an amazing ROM and one of my favorites. BUT I've always had forced reboots, even with changing kernels. You can use minimalist ROMs like Cyanogenmod, Paranoid Android, and Omni ROM and add your own features with Xposed Frameworks.
 
The InspireOS ROM is out of it's beta phase. It's an iOS inspired Paranoid Android based ROM. Like iOS, the status bar changes color per app. In addition, the notification panel changes color as well. Paranoid Android has also just incorporated this feature in their latest beta build. Although, the notification drawer doesn't change color in PA. I hate to say it, but I really like that feature in iOS. I don't like in KitKat, the status bar is transparent in the home screen but turns to black when running an app. If you want the status bar feature, but don't want either if the 2 ROMs, use Xposed Frameworks and the Tinted Status Bar module.

I just found an unofficial Dirty Unicorns 7.9 build. 7.9 is their latest build, but I haven't been successful in finding a 7.9 d2lte build. At least, until now. I understand they added pie controls to the ROM.
 
So, I just tried to flash to the latest Gummy nightly. I have been running an old version of Carbon from February-ish. I flashed the most recent Philz, then I flashed the MD4 modem, then I flashed the latest Gummy nightly, then I flashed GAPPS, then I hit reboot.

I had made a backup before doing this. However, the phone won't turn on. At all. No lights. I can't get it into recovery or to boot. I'm obviously worried. Any suggestions? Sorry for the noob question.

What modem do you have on your phone? The MD4 modem was for the GS3 phones that had Android 4.1.2 preinstalled. But you don't need to flash it if Android 4.3 or 4.4.2 installed. I think it might've been the modem that did you in. Try taking the battery out for a few minutes or so and rebooting into recovery. Maybe try plugging it into your computer to see if it'll register. I have heard that the unbrick guide that mydian suggested has worked for some people.
 
Honestly, I don't remember which modem I had. I thought this was all straightforward, so I wasn't as careful as I should have been. Hopefully I can get someone on eBay to JTAG it for me.

Before you do all that, have you pulled the battery and held down the poer button for 30 seconds. Then replace the battery and try to boot to recovery. It's a long shot, but it's a simple thing that has saved me more times than I can count.
 
I use the Handcent SMS app for sending/receiving MMS. Go to Application Settings>MMS Settings>MMSC and enter http://mmsc.vmobl.com:8088/mms?, then hit OK. And be sure to allow sending and receiving SMS/MMS for Handcent under Apps Permissions.

What does it mean when the MMSC (and Proxy and Port) settings in Handcent are greyed-out? :confused: I still seem to be able to send MMS messages via Handcent with the latest LiquidSmooth--but NOT via Hello (my usual MMS app).
