Official EVO Rumors and Speculation thread

True, I certainly believe that Apple will be the winner in units sold against the Evo, but the vibe I get from third party sales reps(I know a few because of my job) is that they have not seen an interest in phone like what they are currently seeing for the Evo. I also am watching the Windows Mobile 6.5 user base over at ppcgeeks and they appear to have a strong interest in jumping to the Evo as well. I'm always careful not to drink the Kool-aid for any one particular product, but the Evo is appearing to have all the earmarks of a legit "game changer" from my bleacher seats.:)

Chalk me up to a WinMO user jumping on the android bandwagon. The EVO just happens to be the device that's come around at the same time that I've grown tired of WinMO and thankfully, the EVO seems to be the right one to make the jump to full touchscreen .

The Instinct was not that bad, and not that good. It just needed a different marketing strategy. They should of called it the step child to the Iphoney, may not look as good, be as fast, has the most anything, but we still love it for it is ours.
the instinct has a very well KNOWN issue with the touch display crapping out.... I found out just how bad of an issue it was when my son's phone did the same thing.. google it and see for yourself.. if you have one that held up with out exchange or dying about the time the warranty went out congrates!

Quite honestly, it really doesn't make a difference to me if the iPhone outsells the EVO or vice-versa because one way or another the MAJORITY (if not ALL) of us will not see a penny for the profits they make! In other words, why the heck would ANYBODY care about who outsells who, if it's not beneficial to the individual? Unless you work for Apple or Sprint or have stocks in either company, it won't make a difference, which means you're all looking for "bragging rights" on a freakin' forum? Give me a freakin' break. The back and forth on the egos has gotten to a ridiculous level and just makes no sense to me.

As long as Sprint delivers with a quality phone that delivers with the performance expectations and can help me with my multi-tasking life (while still enjoying its use), I'll be extremely happy.

Let's keep the discussion on topic folks.

Hey, just a few days ago, you were not a mod. congrats on your new hammer of ban wielding powers! Welcome to this little (not so much) happy (again, not so much these days) thread ;)

I am glad to have you here helping out. Grateful for all the work TS and Trident have been doing too. I hope folks here can give you the respect you have earned.

FYI...
These quotes are from the transcript of Clearwire's 1Q conference call, but the comments address some of the questions re their plans that have come up on this board. The speaker is Bill Morrow, CEO.

Here's the first, with a comments on Clearwire's plan for 4g phones this year:

"Over the near-term, we expect to launch new and improved CLEAR Spot devices that connect up to eight WiFi-enabled devices
at any time, including the new Apple iPad and we're often asked about handsets and I'm pleased to announce that we will have
two new 4G WiMAX handsets by the end of this year. We're working with Samsung on an Android-based device optimized for
heavy video communications that leverage high-capacity, low latency, high-speed characteristic of our network. In addition,

we're working with HTC on a second 3G/4G WiFi-enabled phone."

Here's another regarding the plans for roll out of Wimax this year, and it seems to indicate NY won't be lit up until late in the year (don't shoot the messenger!):

"Over the course of 2010, the Company has and will be expanding our 4G mobile broadband network services in three main
tranches. The first was over the past few weeks, which included Houston, Harrisburg, Redding, Lancaster, and York. The second
tranche will be this summer and will include 19 additional cities. And finally the third tranche will be later in the year and will
include New York, Los Angeles, Boston, Denver, Minneapolis, the San Francisco Bay area, Miami, Cinncinatti, Cleveland and

Pittsburgh, among others."

I hope that's a 4G full qwerty phone and not like an Evo 2 that will come out a few months later with 10mp camera, 3mp front camera, 4.5" Super AMOLED Screen with a 2000 MaH battery or something like that...

Imagine...a device with almost the same specs as the Evo but with a side-slide full qwerty. HTC, make it so.

damn, spent 10 mins reading through 5 pages of post. 4 of those pages talk about outselling iphone. waste half my life. thanks god i didn't follow the post the whole day!

to chime in, there's no way in hell will sprint outsell iphone. one reason is, majority of the poeple in USA think sprint has bad service. majority of the people also think that they will go bankrupt. then there's a bunch of non-geeks who will complain about such a huge phone. the phone isn't as appealing to a girl than a iphone. apple has too much people on their bandwagon. their advertising department uses brain washing techniques to advertise their product. An Apple Iphone is not a trend, fashion, or however you want to call it. When it becomes a fashion, there's no way in hell will it loose to the evo. Evo is still a geek phone. It will take too much to wipe clear of some of these apple lovers.

now back to what i experienced today. i went to bestbuy today and found that it was pretty amazing to see 3 customers holding the incredibile and buying it while i was looking at phones in the mobile section. HTC definitely trying to do some damage in the US Market. Oh forgot to mention, all 3 look like tech geeks, non of them were women. also, i got a dirty look @ the cafe today since i was talking to my friend about the evo, but the table across form us had like 4 peoples using the iphone.

btw, in no way am i trying to affiliate this post to any specific person. i'm just expressing my feelings after catching up on several post of jargon. I was surprised that the mods did not go through and lock the thread to clean up some of the post in this thread.

Okey Dokey, here is the deal. I love most of the people in this forum and I love finding all the new info on the Evo. However, I al so completely disapointed in several of you, who insist on continuing to fight here. I believe I just spent 3 hours reading about 10 pages of garbage. There were some great pieces of news in there, but in my opinion, the excitement was just completely overshadowed by the fighting.

Do you think your mothers would be proud of your behavior, if they were reading this? Do you think the Sprint and HTC marketing folks have any respect for this thread anymore? Do you think either company would make references to this place, to show off the great fan base and loyal following? Seriously, we are now more of an embarrasment to them than an asset.

I am about to leave this thread permenantly and go focus on my own efforts to get information. I absolutely love all the great stuff you al have leaked and researched here, but I do not need the stress and negativity in my life. I went through this on the Incredible forum and left it for the same reasons.

I have been dropping reports tonight, per the request of the mods, but it is late and I don't expect any mods to be active at this time, so thought I would just make one big plea for some restraint here. PLEASE no more posts that are aimed at our members, with intent to upset, confront, anger, ridicule, put down, bash, etc. Contests to see who leaves the forum forever are petty. Posting that you believe Evo will be best selling phone in the history of the universe is a good show of support, right? Not a reason to start a fight, unless you are already looking for a reason to fight.

I am working on a business venture that involves Sprint, HTC and an unnamed 3rd company and am going to meet with all 3, Monday or Tuesday next week. I may be able to get some information worth sharing and I certainly hope there is a forum worth sharing with, when I get back from that meeting.

Where is Bill? I suspect he is in the hospital with a broken heart. Do you even have any idea how much this thread meant to him? :(:(:(

Please do not go .. many of us love just getting to talk about the phone.. and with our new found friends.. i agree guys let's get along or take it private and i give thanks for all the smart people with smart information no matter if they are first or 2nd .. we appreciate you :)

My buddy upgraded to the Incredible so I finally got to check that out tonight. Really wonderful phone. Very nice. If I was sticking with Verizon, I'd obviously get it.

But instead, it only excited me even MORE for the EVO! I was mainly checking out the speed and functionality of Android 2.1. It'll look superb on that huge screen.

Three days till the 12th. COME ON!

I'm supporting Qik since they are an upcoming local growing tech company that I hope will make it as a startup. Here's a few shots from our local news station covering them:

Just wanted to share because there were some good shots of the evo test units and a little video of the EVO on the bottom too

A nice little featurette about Qik, thanks Cary. I'm sure glad someone around here knows how to post new links rather than ones that have been posted 10 times in the last 2 pages :D

I like the 'Oreo'-Evo at time-stamp 1:22 in that video. Granted it is another test unit, but it appears to have some more white casing/guts than just the back battery cover.

Hey i was joking about my credentials...I have NO credentials when it comes to business...thus my last line.

keatre, i understand and respect your arguement...but i guess here is my point...what happened with the pre? was that not horridly executed? unless you have some sort of inside information telling me that whoever was in charge at that time of marketing is now gone, I can only go based on that track record....and frankly, it was bad.
Actually, YES, Palm Fired the marketing firm a few months back they hired to help make the pre adds that bombed (the weird borg looking lady add as an example). That was all over the precentral.com forums a while back and everyone over there was VERY happy b/c they all agreed that the marketing on the pre was very bad. BUT that was on the palm side of things.

Hey guys.. A while back someone posted a list of things to do before the evo comes out... On that list was a link to an android app site.. I can't find that post.. I've tried searching... anyone hve a link to that post... THANKS!

I started this thread the other day for some of us android noobs to help find cool/helpful apps to put on our evo's first
http://androidforums.com/htc-evo-4g/74765-those-already-android-what-apps-put-evo-first.html

So I hope that I'm not late or posting old information but I just gotta share. I went to Radio Shack and asked about the EVO. The clerk told me after May 20th they will be accepting pre orders for the EVO and can be delivered during the first week in June. He also had a four page brochure for the EVO on the counter with the specs of the EVO and the benefits of the 4g network. Unfortunatley no price was given.

I then walked over to a Sprint kiosk and asked the same questions. He could not provide a date or a price estimate either but sounded eager for the phone. He too also had literature on the EVO and a Sprint generated advertisement comparing the EVO to the Incredible.

Needless to say that put a definite smile on my face.

Great info Cary and thanks for posting. I need to go ahead and set up an account with them and see how much the premium membership cost is. I can see this being a very useful feature at times.

I thought the white back looked nice too, but I think I still like the black one best.

they need to improve their user privacy controls. i don't need to be accidentally broadcasting my stuff out to the free world.

The phone will be released on June 6th.

Preorders will start to be taken in May.

All of these press releases that just came out have backed everything ive said since the beginning, its nice

On May 12th though, all you are really going to hear about is a release date for the phone. Unless they change venue or something, you will not hear about RAM/ROM specs or priceing. They may talk about 4G pricing but more than likely not the actual phone.

However the phone will be priced at around $200

More proof that Supersonical has been right all along. Not sure why people still question you. Thanks Jackson!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You all are so tech savey. Someday (june 6th) when I get this EVO I would love to get on a thread that teaches me how to do all of this.:D

I have a hero now and still havn't rooted my phone becuase I don't see the purpose... maybe some here would kindly explain why it's even worth it... I'm using 1.5 and getting a bit ticked that I can only use certain apps in the market, would rooting my phone and adding another rom enable me to use the apps that requaire 1.6 and above.

Sorry it this is too off topic, I haven't been on in a few days because of school and so on..... Thank God it's Mothers day today, means I'm required to take a brake :D Happy Mothers Day to everyone (that it applies too) Enjoy your day gal's:)
