Thanks folks, your suggestions seem very reasonable to me, but the Mrs wasn't too keen :)

But by humane, I meant non lethal to the mouse. I've used traps before and it's not that pleasant, and some don't even kill that cleanly.

Are you on Twitter? I am, but I've noticed that people follow me, in the hope that I will follow them back. When I don't, they unfollow me. So is it the goal on Twitter to attract as many followers as possible, thereby boosting your importance in the world? Personally I only follow accounts which I'm actually interested in reading what they have to say e.g. Java dev groups, Gadget show, or a couple of running groups. I don't really want my Twitter feed clogged up with what Joe in London is having for breakfast.
Some accounts I've had to mute, because they tweet so much stuff, that's all I see. And if you have to mute someone, what's the point in following them?

I only joined Twitter years ago to get the scores from the NY Yankee playoffs. Couldn't get anything here on TV and the playoffs were on cable.

Also, a couple of businesses decided to do customer service through Twitter. There's really nothing there I want to bother with.
I'll read, but I won't post. Like FB, I have everything marked as private or "only me"

Some people do believe that whoever has the most followers wins.

The only thing I've ever come close to following is the Opportunity Rover. (Still going)

I think at some point, in the not too distant future, I'll give up on this social media thing. I find electronic communication a very poor substitute for actually talking to someone. For a start, a high proportion of human communication is non verbal (facial expression, body language). You lose all that with electronic comms. Humour is always a tricky thing in emails, or forums, I find.

I've actually fallen out with people on FB over misunderstandings, so for me it's an ANTI-social media

I am not a fan of social media. I have Twitter to follow news and events. I have tumbler because a buddy travels the world and that's where I can follow him. I do not have book of faces, or any of that noise. I have kept in touch with everyone I care about, why would I need some online method of doing what I already do? o_O

Well a good use of it is to keep in touch with relatives who are far away, mainly by sharing pictures of the kids or things you did.

I completely agree!

Even back in the days before social media, I preferred Face-to-face meetings over phone conservation.

Because even with phone conservations, the non verbal communication is lost.

As you mentioned tho, even more communication is lost in electronic communication, because at least with phone conservations, you can at least hear things such as 'Sarcastic Tone' and such.

Same here!

True, but you can also use email and phone calls to do the same thing.

Personally, that is how I keep in touch with friends of mine that are far away.

Yes we do that too, but for photos it's quite easy to upload the latest shots of the kids. My Mum, who is a complete technophobe, at least has a FB account, and enjoys looking at the pictures. It seems to be the lowest common denominator for online comms.
