2.1 OTA Beginning 5/11/2010

No...NKT said it is the exact same. It IS the exact same. This individual can be trusted completely.

So now that people know this, why squander around waiting for the exact same software when you can go download the same thing right now? It is in a post made by Caddyman that says 2.1 v3 download. Do you just yearn to see that pretty upgrade banner? ;)

Now THIS would be a fake...

The why are you even following this thread? Anything on this entire site "could" be faked. We're all potentially just forum robots generating random quotes.

The whole internet is a potential fake.

You want 100%, undeniable fact? Too bad, it don't exist. I was going to say go watch your phone and wait. It's the ony proof you'll get. But heck, how do you know that your phone is really downloading an update? Could just be random images intended to rob you of up to 45 minutes of airtime you could be using for your own purposes....

No need to be nasty here...

I'm following it out of curiosity... and a little disappointed when people try to pull the wool over people's eyes... that's all. I myself would love to know what's on the way for my nifty little phone here.

You're right about there being no 100% proof on the internet. That's what MY point is here. But what there can be is increased samples of info (say, more than one person saying that's the OTA and those are the numbers). But again, probably the best evidence for each of us is when we get it ourselves, then compare notes.

Just saying we're REALLY not at that point yet, as no matter who you believe, the consensus is that barely anyone has it yet - period.

My original statement was just kind of a reminder for everyone to cool their jets... that this is typically not a swift, clean process from Verizon. It tends to be slow and sporadic (when it works at all)...

Hoping, praying, and crossing my fingers and toes that it may have more "polish". And I'm just a holdout I guess.

I could just be reaching on this one...but let's say we do turn in our Eris for whatever bug/hardware issues we have. Since they stopped manufacturing on the ERIS would there be ANY Possible way they'd give us the incredible in place of the ERIS?.....i know i know i just had to ask, maybe someone had an experience with that situation.

I'm pretty sure that you would end up getting a recycled Eris.

Then this is a really big problem. There are some really major bugs in V.3 like the "no sound" bug. Yes, some people haven't experienced it, but a large majority of leakers have. I would take my phone back to Verizon after the OTA is finished, but I'm not keen on accepting a refurb for something their official release caused to happen in a perfectly working 1.5 phone.

....not to mention I hate putting on screen protectors, lol. This one is perfect and I don't want to lose it :(

I think it is v3, but I also think they have got to put out another patch to fix some things in this OTA.
As to when or if that will happen... let the speculation begin!

Me too... I guess that's why I'm so curious on this... v3 is definitely not what's being advertised, and it's definitely not feeling smooth and polished... it's downright clunky for me. It's like they repaired some v2 issues, without repairing the UI issues they broke in the process.

Besides the history of people getting jerked around on this (and by Verizon, too), that's the other reason I'm skeptical for now. That, and I don't want v3 to be "it". :p

I guess the scientific method is for someone to install the v2 leak again, and then see if it prompts to update to v3 from the OTA server. If those numbers are then the same, I guess we have our answer.

I might wind up doing this myself if nothing particularly memorable happens in the next couple weeks... for now I'm kind of tired of re-installing, re-installing, re-installing.......

@gubon13: :) Nice pic.

My Eris isn't quite 3 weeks old. It came with 1.5, I bumped it to 2.1v1 then 2.1v3. I think it's fast, responsive, very agile, the interface is - to me - very slick and polished. Personally I think the iPhone / iPod has the slickest interface around and I'd say Eris is almost as responsive. I've not experienced any silent calls, although I do think my signal strength bars are less than they should be. The only bug I can confirm is the 50% without signal issue, and TBH I don't care about that. Oh and one other - the weather applet not auto-refreshing. Apart from that, I think the OS and interface are excellent. It's a big improvement from my G1, and that was good.

Is it there in the V3 software.

It is not.... the reason I would even question it though, is the PDF posted to the update support site promises such things. I guess it really doesn't detract from the actual usefulness of Google Maps, it would just be fun to have.

DC here...no update :(

Yes, we know... it would be so great if people would just post when they DID get the OTA, not "hey, I'm in ---- and no update". It seems that no one is getting the OTA today. Speculation is that just like in the Droid update, they pushed it out to about 1000, take a 24 hr break, then resume in larger numbers if everything goes well. So optimistically it will be popping up everywhere at 11pm tonight. Hang in there peeps.

No the PDF was changed, and no longer shows that as an improvement in this upgrade.

@VZWSupport on twitter continues to post that the update is still rolling out randomly to users, it can happen at any time during the day, it is not delayed but continues to roll out.

I believe that the rollout process is not delayed, however a 24 hour break is built in to the process. I find it hard to believe that it is still being pushed to phones yet we have not had a single report here in over 24 hours.
I think the OTA is going as planned, still on schedule, but at the same time nobody else will get it until about 12am tonight.

I agree. I think I'll set my computer up tonight to leave the phone logcat'ing while I'm asleep then if there's a prompt in the morning I can post the link (assuming no-one else beat me to it).

Just an FYI, I went back to an old post and found that I got my OTA on December 14th. It was released from Verizon on December 9th. I'm in Colorado. Not sure if that helps anyone. I'm expecting to get the update sometime on Sunday or later according to the prior timeline when I received it.

Verizon's Droid Eris Receiving Android 2.1 Update

Users of the HTC-made Droid Eris should see a notification from Verizon Wireless in the next few days indicating that Android 2.1 is ready for download. The new system software is a major leap forward from the Android 1.5 that shipped on the device. Ready for some Eclair?

At this point, I am beginning to feel sorry for Sprint customers who bought the HTC Hero or the Samsung Moment. Both of those devices are still stuck with Android 1.5, more than eight months since launch. The Motorola Droid was updated to Android 2.1 more than a month ago, and now it is the Eris' turn. I can't say what the delay is for Sprint's Android phones, but Verizon is beating them to the Eclair punch big time.
Verizon has said that Eris users will be notified when their device is ready to be updated. The update will be delivered over-the-air, and requires that the phone be mostly charged in order to work correctly. Verizon spokesperson Brenda Raney explained, "As always, the process is phased in. A small number of Droid Eris owners have already received the update and in about 24 hours we will begin to send to increasingly more customers. Customers will see a icon in the notification tab on the phone and much like an application update, they have to confirm the install." The changelog is pretty intense, and Eris users should be plenty happy with the new features.
First and foremost is that the Eris will now support pinch-to-zoom in the Gallery app, browser, and Google Maps. Android 2.1 also brings in voice-to-text entry support for all text fields (and not just within voice search); support for multiple Exchange accounts; support for Yahoo! Mail; Google Maps with Navigation; and much, much more.
Eris users will also be happy to note that the update brings with it the latest version of Sense UI from HTC. That's excellent news. That includes the new Leap feature, which lets users quickly jump between the seven different home screens; the new Friend Stream application, and an improved weather application.

i know we already knew most of this but it did "confirm" (notice quotations) that there is a 24-hour break in the rollout, so i figured i would post it for shits and giggles

Ok so where does that leave it with people who say leak 3 is the OTA? Pinch to zoom in maps isn't in v3, neither is Friend Stream.
