New leaked htc hero update

alright...fixed my post so people can understand which one to download just in case they're rooted..

I haven't flashed this RUU myself...so please don't ask me questions what works and what doesn't work...

ask someone that flashed it...

I'm going to sit back and wait for Damageless to update his ROM with this new leak...

I'm excited... I'm gonna wait! Hopefully, in a few weeks, my favorite ROM hacker will use this (or whatever follows) to work out the kinks.

So this possible final leaked version of 2.1 eliminates keyboard lag! Sweet. So can Fresh make a new ROM that is rooted still?

Dumb question, but is the a thread I should follow when he has a new ROM out there based on the final version?

Could be..it has signed released keys...

and I'm sure Flipz will update his ROM with this leak as well as many other devs and non-devs...

I have unrooted 1.5. Which link should I use? Can I go back to 1.5 if it doesnt work right?

the new update takes away root access :( but thats trial and error for all you that want root. i would say wait until something is cooked up from this one.

This firmware shows 2.1-update1 when I check the settings, FYI, not sure if that's what the previous release said. On the phone with HTC about WTF I am supposed to do to get all my damn apps and contacts back. All they need to know is I had to reset my phone. No need to bring up 2.1 you know what...

Linking this to an unrecoverable and never used third party authentication account is absolutely asinine.

your contacts should be synced up with google. and just some an app to back up all your messages etc. to your sd card.

Why did you blindly download and install this without looking into it further yourself? No one to blame but yourself if you are not happy with it.

How about log into your Google account online to reset the password if you do not remember it? The nice thing about your Google account online also is that you can manage it online as well.....

I didn't "blindly" install it. A phone that requires you to remember a third party user id and password that you did not setup nor ever have to use is poor design bordering on infantile. If HTC provided a proper sync/backup product, this might be avoided in general.

I do not have ANY information on what account was setup for the Google marketplace nor for Google contacts. This is what we call "the problem".

Go online and open a NEW Google acct.

Wow.......just wow....

I feel for you because it looks like you are not in a fun position of not having any idea of the Google account that was tied to your Android based phone. Not a position I would want to be in. However the nice thing is that you can create a new Google account and be on your merry way of using the phone. Then again if you bought apps you have the short end of the stick unless you know what email you used to create your google account. I would head over to google.com and try to sign in with any emails you use and then try to reset the password of whatever email you used to create the account.

As far as "blindly" installing it - I was actually referring to the leaked RUU that you installed to update to 2.1. But it actually turns out that you "blindly" installed two separate things - your original Google Account and this new leaked RUU.

Go online and open a NEW Google acct.

Herein lies the issue - I'd like to not have to rebuy my apps nor reenter a boatload of contacts.

What I am getting at here is that the information vital to my phone is associated with an account I did not set up, nor ever use and hence had no knowledge of. This is the wasteland of the cloud, where your data isn't yours, just tenuously connected until one day it isn't, and you kiss it all goodbye. None of it is irreplaceable, it's simply ^#$ing inconvenient.

And the HTC Sync app is useless - worse than iTunes, and that is saying something.

Couple this with the HTC person saying there is no way to look at your existing phone to obtain your google logon info - not even the userid. This is from HTC themselves. That's. Bass. Ackwards.

I feel bad too, but let's keep this on topic. :)

So 80s Kid, you said there was not keyboard lag. That was for both portrait and landscape?

Does it come with Live Wallpapers?
