Root 1.6Ghz! Its real

Is anyone here running jt's 11/2? I was interested to hear how it is, I may give it a go later tonight.

im running 11/2 nonvoodoo atm and its more than adequate. it has bln and jts latest tinkering (well as of yesterday at least) :)
Yeah I've had it on for a day now [the voodoo one]. Battery life is good. Everything else is about the same. Every here and there I get a moment of lag now and again but frankly that happens across all the kernels

Hmm...I'm honestly thinking of trying one then the other to see if there is really any major difference. The only thing that turns me off is BLN. I'm one of the few (that I've seen) that actually likes the NoLED app.

really? to each his own...personally i was ambivalent to bln when it was first introduced but now im freaking in love with it. i think its cool to see all 4 buttons lit up when i have a text :D

Yeah, I know, I'm weird :p. Not that a kernel having bln would stop me from trying it, the idea is cool. The only thing that worries me a little is how it will affect the battery life, although I'm sure it's probably not too much different from having NoLED.

i can attest battery life is negligible....if it does at all its in the 1-2% range and i don tknow what noled does for battery.

the only issue is the potential buzzing some people here on phone calls when the lights are still lit...i have never noticed this though, but im just point out its there. bln and the extended soft key lights are freaking fantastic.

What would be cool is if they could light up or blink certain buttons depending on what it was you missed. That would be real useful.

I would think Noled would take more power as it has to power the screen compared to an LED. Not sure how the screen works though. I mean is black basically off/no power or is it still on being powered? If so that would take a LOT more power than an LED which makes be believe its in an off/ no power state. hmmm

yeah i believe that was looked into but was either not possible or way too complicated...either way no go on that, but cool idea

I kind of get the feeling there is only one LED lighting all four buttons. But even blinking that would be better if you ask me. Sometime I look at it and it doesn't register that those lights are on.

You knew whats funny? I setting here now looking at a notification that said I missed something. So I click on it and its a bunch of settings to turn on LED notifications for the phone service, sms service and calendar service. It asks you how you want it to blink, what color, interval... I guess someone forgot to tell Samsung they didn't put an LED on this phone LOL

Yeah, that's what I assumed. How long do the extended soft key lights stay on? Is it customizable?

I believe that NoLED lights up only single pixels at a time, thus the whole screen is not used. Since using it I haven't noticed any adverse effects on the battery and I'm sure if the whole screen was active that it would most definitely have a negative impact.

So, Saps .... what's the best 1.6GHz kernel you would recommend right now for testing?

And by the way, I think the soft touch buttons have to have more than one LED, because the icon you touch blinks, and at the same time the others do no. Also, is NoLED working better on the Fascinate these days? It slowed mine to a crawl and introduced a host of little bugs here and there when I tried it the first few times. Took three or four installs just to get it to work, even!

Ah, good point about the soft keys blinking, I forgot about that. NoLED has worked almost flawlessly for me since I first downloaded it a few days after getting the phone. With subsequent updates it has become even more fine-tuned. Initially, I had to hit the power button twice for the lock screen to show when the notification came up but I don't have to anymore. YMMV, but it works great for me and I would suggest giving it another go.

I'm curious on the 1.6Ghz kernels as well...I feel so far behind after not checking xda/irc that frequently as of late. In fact, I'm going to check right now :D

there are 3 options, 10...15...32 seconds. 32 is the max the system allows...personally i use 10. :)

there's extended backlight options for the 1.6GHz kernel? this thread has gotten a little off topic, so it's hard to keep track of which kernel is being talked about :P

Well I just wanna point out that NoLED doesn't just light up a single pixel. A pixel is tiny and would probably be unnoticed, unless you test the screen with a variety of different solid colors.

I'd venture a guess and say NoLED probably uses close to 10 pixels at least?

To the best of my knowledge, the entire screen is active when NoLED is flashing its notification. However, the majority of the screen is black. With LED screens, the color black draws essentially no power to display. I think there still may be some power drain from the black though.

Another point I want to bring up is that the phone behaves differently when the screen is on/off. At least I sure hope the phone does it when stock. If you've taken a look in SetCPU, you can set a profile for when the screen is off. I believe even with no profiles set, the phone will downclock its processor to save some power. With NoLED active and flashing though, technically the screen is on, and therefore the phone may be using the max potential of its processor, sucking up power. I haven't run any tests though, so this is just my belief.

sk, the 1.6 kernels were actually not running at speeds much higher than stock. AgentHex confirmed this. basically the phones clock speed was off and it was tricking benchmarks into thinking it was running faster.

personally i thought the 1.6 voodoo test 5 was very stable actually and it "felt" like a 1200 sv voodoo, but once hex went back to the drawing board ive just been running jts non-voodoo for awhile and its been fine.

11/2 in rom manager was great, but now im running 11/6 test nonvoodoo and its fine as well.

Makes sense. I haven't ran any tests really, just through normal usage I noticed it hasn't really had a negative effect. I do usually catch the notification not too long after it starts though, so maybe I haven't given it the chance to run for that long.

Anyway, didn't mean for this thread to get off-track with this stuff, though I'm kind of thinking there isn't much about 1.6Ghz kernels to talk about anymore. At least until a true 1.6 :)

Yeah sad but true no real 1.6Ghz I tried to change the thread title but it only changed the first post. I tried the 11/02 and 11/06 kernels and was underwhelmed with the battery life. Believe it or not I've gone back to Dirrks LV kernel in part for the LV and in part to get rid of the BLN. Color me not a fan. All it does is drain my battery and make my phone warmer. Seriously, I know most of you guys love it and thats good for you, but not me.

After I re-did my phone, I decided to stay away from Voodoo for awhile. JT's non voodoo Non OC, optimized Kernel found on Rom Manager that clocks in at 1Ghz is great.

Voodoo is bad joojoo for now. For me at least.

yeah not every mod is for everyone :)

i havent noticed much drain with 11/2 or 11/6 non-voodoo but ive been off on usb cable with my comp so who can tell :o

my fav voodoo still though is jts 10/31..... with oc 1200 10/27 close behind

ummm...yeah...that lol should have been ftw ;):D

I only have two.
The first is test2. This is the one Im running myself. Only flaw is SetCPU reports speed as 1Ghz.
The second is test5. This has the proper SetCPU numbers however, I get freezes in NeoCore, YMMV. Other than NeoCore I think this is stable though. I might actually go back and re-re-test but they seemed nearly identical performance wise.
Take your pick though and as always, the usual warning blah, blah, blah and all credit to wickedbeav, AgentHeX, jt, birdman and everyone else who had a hand in the mix

Don't blame me for the names either thats what beav called them:rolleyes::p:D

All I have done so far is just rooted my phone is there anything I need to do before trying to load this to phone?
