Root 1.6Ghz! Its real

ok im rooted, got titanium backup, superuser, rom manager, and just got done with clockwork..ready to try the [KERNEL] StupidFast v1.0.36 (Stable)....Im on the right path right?

yup, just make a backup in clockwork first :D
ok now 2 questions if you dont mind #1 how do I do the backup for clockwork? is it by using "backup current rom" on ROM manager? and #2 do you use ROM Manager? if so do you know how to wipe cache and davlik-cache using ROM Manager? thanks in advance

you can do it either way, you will be asked if you wanna back up ROM prior to install and wipe cache. Dalvik cache is wiped in CWM thru the "advanced" the wipe dalvik

ok so now I have moved the zip file to my phone and i have a screen up that says:

Clockwork Recovery v2.5.1.0

-reboot system now
-apply sdcard:update.zip
-wipe data/factory reset
-wipe cache partition
-install zip from sdcard
-backup and restore
-mounts and storage
-advanced
-*****go back*****

what do I choose to unload the zip file for the kernel?

yeah you're golden now
choose install zip from sdcard
pick the folder you put the zip in, if you didnt put it in a folder it'll be all the way at the bottom of the list.
Also know that you can do this thru ROM Manager too and you avoid this menu entirely in ROM Manager and you just have to pick folder again thru install from sdcard

ok I got it now. I cant tell you how much i appric. your help..Im sure my phone would have been bricked without the help. Thank you so much for everything you have done.

No problem glad to help. Love the sig btw ;). This really is a great forum and subforum here for the SF a lot of really bright peeps and so many are willing to lend time and talents to help others. You're only scratching the surface of what you can do with your SF, the geeknik was a great move, now you should go ROM shopping :D

after learning that voodoo messes with system restores... i need to dump voodoo lol. so it's been discussed that the 1.6GHz kernel isn't really 1.6? what's the fastest real kernel that's out right now then?

there arent any current circulating oc kernels from the last say 2 weeks really. either geekniks kernels at xda or anything jt puts up are really good, clean, and fast even at stock speed.

im sure at some point we ll see oc ramp up again, but it mostly seems to be about optimizing and fixing what is there at the moment and making the kernel as good as possible.

hmm i see... i don't need current kernels, but OC would be nice! :) is there a "1.6" non-voodoo kernel?

actually i dont even know if the old oc nonvoodoo kernels are still around anywhere, u might have to get them from someone.

by the new kernels are really fast though. in real world speed id take jts 11/xx... or an october 1200 voodoo :D

i hope someone has them on here... how do the new kernels compare to the old ones?

thanks for all the info and quick responses btw :)

np :)

i think most would agree with me that new jt kernels nonvoodoo > october overclocked voodoo.

its nice to be able to use nandroids without voodoo as well and really the new kernels are totally lagfree for me and fast.

im sure when birdman or jt take it to the next level it ll be that much better too.

i dont think voodoo is dead, but beta 5 (or whatever version its on) supposedly hasnt been implemented fully or correctly (something like that)

how do the benchmarks compare?

well obviously voodoo kernels will blow through quadrant, non wont.

its the "real world" speed that makes the difference imo (and im sure others will back me up on this)

but comparing apples to apples it benches higher in linpack then a stock a 1000mhz kernel or older ones. :)

i'd rather have non-voodoo for backups... speed is nice, but those backups are key!

i agree with real world speed being more important. so the real world speeds are faster than the "1.6" kernels?

given that the 1.6 kernels were essentially tweaked jt stock speed kernels from 2 weeks ago, yes.

either geekniks stupidfast (can't say i love the name ) or jts latest in rm are good.
