Root ........1 Click Root Optimus m (Gingerbreak)..............

flash_image.bin is what you should be looking for.

Downloaded the file. Did not see a flash_image.bin anywhere.
Will try to download to phone and see.
Just a recovery.img, nothing more. The file properties indicate just 1 file, didn't see any file piggybacked either.
The flash_image.bin is usually from 9-10 KB, the recovery's are around 4MB

I found the Recovery.img but couldnt find the flash image.bin i did find a thread "[GUIDE] Rooting, Install Custom Recovery, Install Custom ROM CyanogenMod 7" I used App Flash Image GUI from the Guide post and it seemed to work fine..it had the same recovery file listed, but for some reason my Terminal was not finding the Recovery to flash. Flash Image GUI worked it seems.. wiped Dalvic Cache and Cache, it told me to reboot the phone with a reboot button and it took about 3-4 mins to get past the Android screen, probably wiping Dalvic Cache from what i read is what took longer than normal for it to boot, booted up..home screen and so far it looks like im on track but going slowly..thanks alot for your help too. now i just need to Nandro backup and test it.

Will this leave my phone stock(but rooted)???

Yep.. Thats what i have.. stock OS 2.2.1 but with some added apps.. took me a while to work up the nerve to try it...didnt seem to cause a problem ..just make sure you have your USB Debugging on and a decent charge on your phone. on my first try it hung up and didnt root, I think because my phone kept going to sleep... try turning off any sleep options while you do it..not sure if it matters but once i did my phone rooted just fine.

Don't forget to make a backup in the new recovery(this is called a nandroid backup) in the "backup and restore" section.

The flash_image GUI will install the proper flash_image.

Another super noober here. I rooted just to be able to remove all the metro pcs crap. Problem is...i have no clue how to do so. Any help would be greatly appreciated. BTW, for a SEVERE rookie like me...this was super easy. I will recommend to everyone!

same with me, i installed and as i hit superuser the list of apps would not come up so i can delete the metro bloat ware.... any one know how to help with this problem?

I too can not get this to work on my LG Optimus M. I'm sure it's me, not doing something right. I have not been able to find step by step instructions, or the video(s) I see mentioned in the posts. Where are they?

I've tried:
1. Old, formatted SD card. Debugging Enabled. Used Astro to install the apk, ran it.
2. Formatted old SD card (FAT32) via my pc. Ditto to the above.
3. Brand new out of the packaging SD card, ditto'd #1.

All no goes. It never restarts and doesn't gain root access as reported by Titanium. I think what I'm missing is moving it to the phone. Is using the drop box trick what I have to do? installing it through Astro doesn't move it to the phone? Is that what I'm doing wrong?

Do I need a rom? What am I not doing right?
Please link the step by step tutorial, video preferred. I will follow text if that's all that's available.

I'm tired of the metro bloatapps. I would really like to get rid of them to free up phone storage.

Thanks!

I don't know what version of Android your Optimus M has (2.2, 2.2.1, or 2.2.2) but this is an older method of rooting (that is what you are trying to do, correct?). It worked for 2.2.1 and 2.2. this thread: http://androidforums.com/optimus-m-...-kit-optimus-m-2-2-2-dummy-proof-3-click.html has a newer method that will work with all three Android versions. It is very easy to do. If you aren't trying to root, then pay no heed to my post. :)

Yes. I am trying to root. It's stock from Metro 2.2.2 with all the bloatapps.
Anxious to get rid of them, and hoping I can get rid of or at least stop some system.default apps from running (like voice search - it doesn't work for me but it's always running)

Thanks for the quick reply! I'll try that.

I just picked a new LG Optimus from Metro and it has 2.3.6. I would like to install Titanium, so does Gingebreak work on this version of Android?

You picked up the Optimus M+. Head on over to the Optimus M+ All things root section and you will find a method of rooting. And no, it isn't the ginger break method.

I wonder if the 2.3.6 Optimus m+ and the 2.3.6 Samsung attain 4g could use the same rooting method....as far as I know, the attain's root is done by using ODIN and some tar made for another phone, and if you don't uncheck this one box, the phone will be bricked, the phone is new and no one has found an unbrick method for that phone.

Maybe not such a good idea. I was just trying to point out that they have already rooted the M+ with the version mentioned in the link.

That was pretty fast. The Samsung Attain 4G guide to root was posted on May 3rd and that phone came out in January....
