2.1... Confirmed!!

There is already a cure for that...

I haven't tried changing MSL yet. It seems to be a hit and miss thing with not great results if it does work. I've tried the other supposed "fixes" like turning off vibrate and roaming alert to no avail.
I'm going to try changing the MSL next. Thing is, users shouldn't have to jump through hoops to get the phone to function correctly as a phone, it's primary function.

Thanks, I'll give it a try. I've just been lazy about calling to get my MSL#. I hate talking to customer service.
Did you change yours to 1 or 0?

I changed mine from "2" to "0". It definitely cut down on a ring and a half from the calling line. Now it usually rings about two times/two and a half times if I am in spotty coverage, or two/one and a half times if I am in near full-bars of coverage.

I have been curious to see what changing it to "1" might do. Maybe I will try that here soon.

Ok people...

We all know we cannot trust these low-level online chat employees what are sitting over in India, with fake screen names. They just tell us whatever the hell they want to. Everyone's responses are different.

Um, hi, lives in NC. Yeah, SOME of the chat people are in India, but I can assure you I'm not. The only time I've ever even left the US is to spend 4 hours in Tijuana. And SOME of the chat agents in the US are morons (just like every call center / retail store / whatever) but trust me, they don't last very long. There's a reason the turnover rate is so high in call centers, it's a very stressful job and a lot of people don't last long enough to really learn how to do their job correctly. The employee is only going to be as good as they want to be. If you sleep / play games / text your buddies through training, you won't know anything when you hit the floor, and will either sink or swim. There are some agents that will tell you what they think you want to hear, just to get you off their call and so if you get one of the surveys you will give them good marks. There are some agents that don't care about doing their job right because it's just something to do until they get a "real" job, or because their parents told them they had to get some sort of job, and this is the first place that would hire them. There are also some employees that actually give a crap, and really are "researching" when we say we are, or asking our supervisors and trusted co-workers. I'm one of them, which is why I've been working there for 2 years.

And yes, when you get me on chat, it says my name is Jillian. Please think before you type and don't be ignorant or prejudiced.

Last update is April 9. I promise you all 100,000,000% that I will *NEVER* give you guys info that I can not verify somewhere. Just relax. :)

Ok...?

A majority of Sprint's customer service was outsourced to India. I was stating a fact, no need to take things so personally. I have chatted with agents that can barely put a good sentence together, and I have talked with agents that are almost impossible to understand. I can complain about those issues all I want to.

Just because you work for a call center, doesn't mean I haven't had an agent get frustrated and hang up on me, because I, the AMERICAN consumer of an AMERICAN company has to ask him a dozen times to repeat things because he was barley understandable.

As a customer, I have the right to complain about the service all that I want, which I actually rarely do because I haven't had any bad CS related issued in the past three years or so.

End rant caused by you. Glad this thread was hijacked and drawn out to five pages of nonsense.

Would you mind enlightening us and letting us know what it is?

Call Sprint 1.877.345.7895

* Ask for "Advanced Technical Service"

* Explain to them that you would like to change your Slot Index Cycle from '2' to either '1' or '0'

* Go to the phone dial pad and type in ##3282#

* After you hit the last '#' symbol, it's going to say "initializing"

* Next, it's going to want to know if you want to go into "view mode" or "edit mode"

* Select "edit mode"

* It asks for a password

* Enter MSL number (must get from the Sprint representative)

* Go to the "Advance" tab in the "edit mode"

* Scroll down to Slot Index Cycle (it's going to be set to '2)

* Tap it and change it to '0'

* Once back in the "edit menu" hit the hard button menu button (next to the trackball) to bring up the save option to save your new settings

* This will save and reboot the phone

The only thing you need from the Sprint Rep when you call, is your MSL number, but you have to have them help you through the steps, because they won't just give you your MSL number if you ask for it.

relax man...she is just trying to state her point of view just like you are its no that big of a deal and im glad that at least someone is in here on the inside...it helps

When it is released how do you install it? Is it just a firmware update? Does anyone know of the benefits of it? Thanks, TC.

I would like to see this mythical law also.

The cell companies are under no obligation what so ever to provide any operating system upgrade. As I said, this would be no different than Microsoft having to upgrade your XP or Vista o.s. to 7 when it released, no law anywhere requires this, or bug fixes for that matter. You purchased your phone with a specific o.s. on it at its current merchantability, there is not even a legal requirement to patch bugs.

As far as 1.6 being required, what about the phone is not working? Are you unable to place calls? Get texts? Email? Access the market? All these features are working, and do not require an upgrade to 1.6 for any reason, other than they want to make customers happy.

There called the 'Lemon Laws'. Yeah, the same ones that cover crappy cars, also cover crappy tech. This phone is currently like a car that misfires, has a grinding transmission, an uncharged A.C., a half-filled battery and a disconnected radio that we bought 'new' on the lot. If they don't fix, they need to let us out of contract. This has happened before; a phone was released that was buggy and the cell company wouldn't/couldn't fix. They would then have to let dissatisfied customers out of contract without incurring the EFT penalty.

And as for "nothing wrong"? You own a Hero, right? The ring lag? The constant force-close? Sprint's PROMISE that this was a 'cutting-edge' phone? Oh, yeah; this phone is wonky and I want it fixed...

Please debate or discuss politely. We're all friends here. :)

Oh, and please...... no more mythical release dates, email conversations etc. No sense in adding to the already-rampant confusion.

If you continually get force closes, then YOUR phone has a problem. Most Hero's don't get many random force closes. Ring lag also appears to be an issue with only a small percentage of phones, so I suggest you see if you can get a new one. Most Hero's don't seem to have those issues, or people have decided they're not that annoying. ALL phones have issues, and the only thing the phone companies are obligated to provide is service to their network if you've paid for it. In reality, they don't even have to provide repair service for the thing. They do, because it keeps customers (and because they've put out warranties on it), but they are not obligated to provide updates (again, they usually do for a period of time, because it keeps customers happy).

What you refer to is the Magnuson-Moss act, which does cover warranty issues, but does not state that you are entitled to an upgrade to a newer operating system when it comes out. You bought the phone with 1.5, that is all they are required to provide by law.

As far as my Hero, I have had maybe 4 or 5 force closes in a three month period, had a very slight ring lag problem that was easily fixed, and my battery lasts from 8:00am till 5:30pm on average with heavy use (2-4 hours talk time, checking e-mail every 15 minutes sending/receiving 10-15 a day or more, text messages, camera, and Google Voice). My phone is working just fine with 1.5 and when it was released it was cutting edge. The problem with the term "cutting edge", it is usually a very short lived status because something comes out soon after that replaces it.

It sounds to me that yes, you do have a warranty issue, but there are a very larger percentage of people who do not. I would suggest, as Tatonka did, that you go to your local Sprint store and see about getting a replacement phone.

I purchased my Hero in February so it already had the 1st MR update loaded. It's been stock since I got it, ie, I haven't rooted and than unrooted, etc.

I've had a total of two force closes - each after downloading one of the 200 or so free apps that I've tried from the Market. For the apps that I downloaded that resulted in an FC, I deleted them. My phone has over 70 apps loaded now. And I haven't experienced ring lag here in N. Virginia.

So my experience has been good, and I do like my phone and my service provider.

I spoke with Elvis today, and he said, "Him and Amelia Earhart are working as diligently as possible and should finish coding 2.1 soon!" He also appologized for missing the previous deadline, but they had the code stored on a floppy disk and the day before release, bigfoot ate it!:p

My hero has not been ok since I got it. It's been replaced once and the MMS issue keeps popping back up. I've tried handcent and it dosen't fix it, I've hard reset. That to me seems to be a defect in the phone. If they have an update that will fix it it would be nice if they released it or let me switch to another phone without the issue. So far it's cost them more in credit to my bill than it would for them to just swap me phones, and it makes no sense. Also I would like a straight answer. I've gotten a new and equally bizzare response from CS every time I've called. From it's HTC's problem and we don't care, to it's a Rim and Htc network issue (and yes I pointed out that there is no backend servers that Android uses, unlike RIM), to well there's nothing we can do. All these are insufficient. You (Sprint) sold me the phone, I've made you aware of the issue, you acknowledge it's a known problem, just give me a phone that works. Hell there are very few phones you could swap me with that would cost what my Hero did anyways.

Whew.

/end rant

The MMS problem is definitely the most serious problem with this phone and its been a problem for months which is just unacceptable. I could wait patiently for 2.1 if they would just release a fix for MMS.

I just did a web chat to get a credit to my bill too, maybe if more people demand a credit then they will fix the issue soon. The customer rep I talked to also said "10:07:47 AM : Annie U: Thank you for being online. The Android 2.1 will be releasing in the first week of April 2010."

I think I speak for a majority of the people here that agree Sprint CSR's don't know jack shit in terms of release dates for any kind of updates.

Yeah I threw that in for the fun of it. I got a credit to my bill and thats all I care about.
