Some of the Scandanavian SGS users are reporting that the Froyo update has been pulled already, so I highly doubt it will get released here today.
 
I'd recommend getting a paid copy of Titanium Backup if you want to make the re-install process as painless as possible. After I installed the froyo Cognition ROM I just re-installed TI and had it restore all my apps and their settings. If you have the paid version it will sit there for 10 minutes and re-install every application you have with no button presses needed. The free app requires a button press on each one. The same process should work for a real update for Froyo.

Just make sure you only restore application settings NOT system settings. Restoring system settings from eclair to froyo will do really bad things to your phone.
 
I'd say if you're in that much of a hurry to get Froyo and are feeling a tiny bit experimental, go download the Cognition 2.2 Beta 7 and enjoy it. To me Froyo for the Captivate wasn't that big of an upgrade. It is nice but not quite like upgrading to the Cog ROM was.

I've been running the Cog ROM since Beta 4 (Ok, so like a week and a half) and it's all been pretty solid for me. Just as snappy as 2.1 with lag fix.

I agree with this. I HATE how long its taking for Froyo to get on all these Android phones. When you announce it make sure all the companies have Froyo ready for launch like a few weeks after I.E apple. By the time Froyo is on all phones now, they would have announced Gingerbread. The phone manufactures and Google need to get on the ball.

I have installed a leaked version of Froyo for ATT Captivate, it works great, although not 450% faster, maybe 50% faster overall performance, lots of updates and Options changes.

I tell you it does feel more robust compared to 2.1, battery lifespan I can't tell, seems the same, but also I've been playing more with it;) lol

Hope is official by November 2010, Gingerbread is due next year
 
Having Froyo (or at least the Cognition Beta) on the phone isn't really that much different than having eclair. To me the big difference is the bug fixes in the wireless stack, I can connect to wireless networks at my work now where before I couldn't. Yes, tethering is there but I haven't even tried it yet. Hands-free dialing is not there, pushing the button on your bluetooth headset doesn't trigger voice dialing or anything like that.

Unless you had to specific issue I had you probably shouldn't get worked up about Froyo, its nice but there isn't a lot of features you are missing. On the other hand, if you enjoy voiding product warranties Cognition is pretty nice.
 
Guys, stop dreaming about gingerbread.......

When gingerbread spreads, there will be other phones, maybe Samsung Universe X, and they will invest in those phones, not he Galaxy S that would be old!

Unfortunately you're probably right :(

I think Froyo is all we can be sure to get. Gingerbread, I would be surprised.

That's about as straight-from-the-horse's-mouth as you can get right there.

This communication was from Samsung UK . . . they did not specify if the "released to all carriers in November" meant all UK carriers, European carriers or worldwide carriers.

Until AT&T communicates a timetable for froyo release to it's customers everything else is speculation.

Yes, I'm aware that was Samsung UK. On going back & re-reading it, I think that it means that all of the Galaxy S phones in the UK will have it by the end of November. Which would likely mean at least another month for us (yes, speculation).

You could be right... however Engadget seems to think that US versions would be avail by end of Nov too. Who knows... Samsung has been unreliable so far with their Froyo dates.

Right, but that press release is from the UK office, same as the tweet. & Engadget even says "presumably including," which is, unfortunately for us, speculation again :(
 
Mini Kies does not have a win 7 64 version. I got the last update using my GFs laptop with win xp.

The last update was NOT a GPS fix, and samsung never officially said it was. People just assumed it was. As for Froyo Samsung UK keeps setting and changing dates while Samsung US just states "this year"
