other then that all is fine

oh ya skype now works on the cappy,

I couldnt use kies mini on a win7/x64 at first. When I was flashing different roms, I restored to stock jh6 and kies mini reciognized my phone right away. I installed jh7 using kies.

I tried using Kies 2.0 but it doesnt support the captivate I897...I followed XDA to fix compatibility problems but mine still exists....

Yep, installed works fine.
Had to update to home switcher froyo version, then reset the default launcher.

But aside from that, quite painless actually.
Finally get some of the neat things like homedesk and cardock and google voice search.

Can somebody aid me in getting the update on my unlocked AT&T phone? I'm on rogers and I cant get it OTA.

I have no clue what the first 2 things are, but doesn't 2.1 already support google voice?

Cant get Kies 2.0 to find the phone. Now can't even find a good working copy of Kies 1.53...

Epic fail by Samsung and Rogers for such a horrible way to do a simple update...

This is by far the only thing I miss from Apple.

one posted on samsung mobile canada website,, released jan 6/2011

oh by the way,,, rogers is not acknolging this as a certified update,, samsung did this without approval from rogers,,,

makes you wonder if samsung is tired of taking the heat for carriers lack of support,,,

time will tell

^^ i wonder why, 2.2 is full of problems. so many things are not supported .

and now after charging it full last night, i turn the phone off during the night, and i wake up with the battery completely drained. ?????

how could that be?

Just chiming in here.

Had the update for 3 days now and not a hitch in stability. While I don't think this is entire official, as evidenced by some spelling mistakes and certain quirks (such as haptic feedback being very low across the board), it is definitely safe to put on. At least this would be able to tide you over until Rogers releases the "real" version which they peg to be 1st or 2nd half of 2011.

I'm happy with the features included in this update. I've noticed a slight increase in battery life. It definitely isn't any worse. Flash is useful for streaming the occasional hockey game ;). I haven't really noticed an overall increase in OS speed though. For anyone that had the WiFi sleep policy bug, where the phone wouldn't sleep, it is fixed with this update.

That's all off the top of my head.

Does anyone else's captivate have a gps lock issue(after the 2.2 update)? Also, does your battery use in settings not show anything but wifi, cell radio, display and phone idle?

i went to toronto and all around toronto yesterday,, worked the best it ever has,, my car has built in gps and phone was right on with it,, actually phone is better as maps are updated,, honda wants a 170 for new disc with updates,,

can i ask a silly question? is it better to turn one's phone off at nite. for years i heard arguments on both sides for a desktop..i for one never turn it off, sleep mode yes, but 7 yrs old now and my desktop still runs...but for a smartphone should one when charging overnite turn it off ? would it prolong its life or something?

ps i am a rogers captivate guy so i am going to try and do this update now.

hmm? i connected, chose firware update, then it warned me to back up my contacts list as it could be lost and so it offered to backup contacts, then during backup it simply said error?
no explanation. worse than that? it then despite fact it suggested to backup contacts ...it went ahead and moved onto next step to start updating the firmware. why if the recommeneded step of backing up contacts failed...for whatever reason...would it skip past?
i stopped it. cancelled it. as i do not always back up contacts and no way did i want to lose someones valuable info....so i am going to try again to at least back up contacts before doing this again.
i am not that technological minded so if i am doing something wrong chime in...otherwise...not smooth sailing yet...

edit...so i am afraid to update...i am doing what i always did before for saving contacts..highlight while in kies...the phone in the upper right and it brings up options to save media and contacts etc and when i choose to save contacts it starts then a minute later says error unable to save error? what am i doing wrong? i did a search on the site for erorr saving contacts and was unable to see one with my issue, they all talk about duplicate entries etc (i have that too) but not a solution to error msg. anyone?

Your phone is quite different from a desktop. It has no moving/spinning parts. So the reasoning for turning the computer off at night for life longevity don't apply.

Wait a minute, you "tree choppers" get health-care and froyo...
