My update install also keeps failing.
I am unrooted, however, I use to be rooted (at the time, I believe I froze 2 or 3 processes\apps) will I need to reroot, unfreeze, then unroot my phone in order for the install to work?

Oh - and I also uninstalled the Blockbuster app while I was rooted, before I read that it was much safer to simply freeze apps\processes :o
Did I screw myself?

Thanks bud. I'll have to download it when I get home (I'm using Verizon in Alaska, shhh don't tell anyone)

Not to be a killjoy as I know you were just being humorous, but when I read his message I took it to mean he was letting everyone know that they had started rolling it out to everyone who didn't get it that 1st day it went out to the testers.

Ok so is the one being pushed out now exactly the same as the one they released to the testers then? Or did they do some last second tweaking to it?

i kind of doubt they did any tweaking. I mean if they could fix issues THAT fast before rolling it out to everybody within 24 hours, they would have been able to fix all the crap that went bad with the froyo update. Well maybe...
perhaps not :|

FYI to those getting Failed Update (even after you put back all the original bloatware you removed), make sure you put back the original(stock) framework-res.apk. So if you did a custom name instead of your carrier name, it has to be back to what it originally was in order for the update to go through successfully.

Swype seems to no longer save email addresses into it's dictionary. Can someone else confirm that?

I liked that I could swype out my email address really quickly.

Ermm.. How do I put back the original bloatware? (The only thing I removed, was the Blockbuster app)

If you mean when you started to swype the email address came up fairly quickly, that has never worked for me because I've never been able to save full email addresses in my user dictionary. It always starts over once I put the @ symbol in with it.

So - I unfroze all of my apps and reinstalled the bloatware that was once uninstalled (and gave permissions so they would be recognized as an original system app) - and the update is STILL failing!

Downloaded in a few minutes but I see no improvements. Obviously this is not gingerbread but a lame patch that is supposed to make us feel loved. Not working. This patch is no more than a useless Blackberry update. Making the shift I expected more. Now with the new 4G coming out we'll be lucky to get that does anything.

Don't get me wrong I love gaming, but I have an Xbox for that.

Droid x stock

Although I agree, there was more to the update than the stupid Madden game. Just look around. They fixed some quite annoying bugs imo. I all for getting updates. We won't be getting Gingerbread for a long time, so I appreciate anything we get until then.

If he hadn't rooted it may not have been quite as noticable a change for him. This update seems to have made a lot of my apps... rooted or not... play nice together.

For instance I had problems with my device rebooting constantly throughout the day, I narrowed it down to my screen density app. I froze that app and never had any more problems out of it. After the update I defrosted the app, and set the density back to 200 just to see what would happen.... nothing has. It's been stable for almost three days now.

I think the more you pushed this phone, the more the instability issues reared their ugly heads. If you just cruised around on a stock DX, the update may not seem quite as game changing.

I agree that we should be happy for anything, but all of these "fixes" are for bugs that I never had. I'm happy that my stock X works well, and I am grateful for them trying to send out patches, which I think are basically to keep us complacent. I left BB for that.

All this talk for some measly patches...

I am on a stock DX and I do not notice the difference. Didn't have the problems people reported. It is just as you said, not a game changer. If they never told us, you would never know (unless you root your phone)

I would have noticed, rooted or not. I got occasional kernel panics when running navigation that would cause phone reboots. None since the upgrade. Plus, my entire phone runs clearly, noticeably smoother. No question at all.

Like Binary said, just because you didn't notice a difference doesn't by any stretch mean it's just a bunch of fluff to pacify the masses or whatever. Not everyone had problems, but for those who were experiencing problems, this was a much needed fix.

By the way there was never any talk of this update being gingerbread. And if your phone is working great then I'm really pretty clueless as to what you're so disappointed about? You were expecting more coming from a Blackberry eh? Well don't worry, 4G, the money printer and time travel all come standard with the gingerbread update in a month or two.

I haven't been on the boards much lately. I just checked my phone and I have the update waiting to download. I'm going to wait til tonight. I'm expecting a phone call and I don't want to miss it.
I'm a little scared about downloading it with the problems I see that everybody is having with it.

So far everything seems fixed, for me at least. The only thing that gave me an issue was root, and I can't technically count that as a problem lol
