Root 2.3 OTA Update w/ Rooted EVO vs an Unrooted Evo

So I flashed the new odexed rom (and did a cache and dalvik wipe before and after the flash) and it's booted up (new 3G icon was the first thing I noticed).

However, the phone seems a bit sluggish, and when I look at the stats in SystemPanel, something looks to be constantly maxing out the processor at 100%. Any thoughts?

System Panel reports live updates of CPU usage by app/component... so it should say what's pegging the CPU... GO into SystemPanel, tap the pie graphs up top. Click the History tab at the bottom. Switch it from Plot to Top Apps. IT should list things in order of most CPU usage for the date range specified. If you just flashed, you might want to wait another hour or so, so it has more history to go by.

If anyone cares about a follow up, several reboot later, uninstalled Whatsapp (I've never liked how many processor cycles it took up, not sure if it's related), toggling 4G on and off, and probably other random things, everything has settled down and is as zippy as ever.

If the problem persists even after you've wiped cache/dalvik cache, a full wipe and reflashing the ROM may not be a bad idea.

Well, sadly, looks like I'm going to have to do a full wipe. The white HTC screen has reared its ugly head again. Funny thing is I was reading another site and someone else had this same problem but I don't think they were rooted.

This time though, I'm going to go with deodexed because I want themes. :D

So what I have to do is wipe everything in recovery right? Then go through the flashing process again? I'm a little nervous since this seems more intense than a factory reset. Also, should I delete the odexed version off my SD card too?

I think it is a universal problem with the new update. My best guess is that the new Sense (what with the new clock animations and so on) is taking up more memory than normal and so now when loading big websites or big apps, HTC Sense is getting kicked out of memory.

How long does it usually take for root exploits to become avaliable?

There is no telling unfortunately. Rest assured they are hard at working trying to find one but it is a needle in a haystack so to speak. They have to find a glitch in the coding that allows them access. Might be today.....might be next month. No telling for sure.

That is the older radio version. The current radio version is 2.15.00.05.02. If you flashed the correct one, for some reason it didn't take. Radios are for cell reception and 3G. Wimax update is for 4G.

im a noob to all this rooting and rom flashing stuff but i am very interested in it. so about 3 days ago with the time i had i rooted my phone and it took me untill yesterday how to actually flash a rom on my phone using clockwork mod. i rooted my evo 4g with unrevoked3 and then being the noob i am i figured i will just unroot and do the OTA 2.3.3 update. the update is pretty wack lol. but for some reason i think i still may be rooted. in the hboot screen or whatever its called at the top it shows "s-off" dosn't that mean if i get rom manager on my phone and do all the things needed to flash a rom onto my phone could i go ahead and do that. i am very cautious to go through with attempting it without getting a second opinion from u guys. i dont wanna screw up my evo :o

sry for the life story :D help me out please

If you still have s-off, can you still get to recovery? Are you wanting to flash a different rom or just make sure you can still use root apps? The biggest issue with root is getting s-off. Once you have that you can do the rest manually. I would check first to see if you can get to recovery. Power off, then hold volume down+power til the white hboot screen comes up. Wait for it to look for the PC36IMG file(if you have one tell it to not update) then select recovery and tell us what happens. If you get a red triangle, you will have to pull the battery to reboot your phone.

bout to cook dinner and after that i will try this. thanks! ya i wanna flash sense 3.0 on to my phone. after that i dont really know what cool things to do after that as far as rooting goes.

There are not many stable Sense 3.0 roms. Virus is going to push out his latest which is supposed to be 100% stable. He released b1.3 earlier today but posted after that there were some issues with it and he was going to drop another later tonight with the fixes. MikG 1.02 is out and has Sense 2.1 with 3.0 additions. I have been running it since yesterday and like it.

cool^^

well i got the red "!" so what can i do now. or does anyone think there will be a way to get sense 3.0 on the evo through an ota update.

If you have s off you need to flash a custom recovery, yours is missing. Rom manager can do this or...someone link him :)

Your nandroid backups would not work on a different recovery. Backups made with something like titanium backup would be fine. You would just need to make a couple new backups in the new recovery.

Hi I'm new here and I wanted to post on this because I have a rooted evo and I want to upgrade to GB. I think I got the overall part of upgrading from rooted 2.2 to rooted 2.3 but just to be on the safe side I'm going to post the steps that I understand. I rooted using Unrevoked 3.

I already have a nandroid backup on my sd card and computer through CWM

1) I go to XDA download rooted and odexed 4.22.651.2 (prefer the simpler one).

2) Save that file to the root of my SD Card.

3) Power down then turn phone back (press volume down + power)

4) Go to recovery wipe data in factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvik.

5) Then install zip from sd card. Highlight supersonic 4.22, yest to install. (This is where I'm confused) GB should install then and there right?

6) Reboot system and then go through the entire process of starting up phone like if I had just bought it. Right?

I'm trying to find out the most information I can because I've been told that using unrevoked was not a good idea because I can't download different roms.
