Root 3.4.2 flashable zip Question

So, how do you use Root explorer to remove the bloat? I know in TiBu you can freeze them, but that's really not removing them. Do you have to locate the process name and then find the file and delete it? Not sure how this works. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

you can also uninstall them with Titanium back up.

you find the app/apk you want to delete and name the file extension to .bak
it more or less disables it and its still there that way when you want/need it back you just rename it

Ahh, like I did when I got the X originally. Thanks for the reminder. After using all these fancy ROM's I forgot how to clean up after Moto.

you can also use titanium back to back it up too lol..

TiBu can be pretty scary other than batch backup user apps and freeze apps. I don't have the guts to play with that too much lol. Thanks for the tip.

My sdcard is sooo full of ROM backups and .zip's it's crazy. Tell me I'm not the only one. :D

you are not the only one lol but remember you can make folders on your card to organize all that and i pray you use rom manager or your file manager to rename your backups for less confusion

what is different about this, instead of using Titanium to just freeze the app??..is there a specific benefit to either?

yes you can lol,,,personally im not a fan of tibu at all but it is a nice tool for those that prefer it

wow lol..it's not, really...and ur the only one, I only make a nandroid back up of stock when I get a new phone ..

I just use titanium back up for my apps and restore them when I do factory resets, since then. No need for a nandroid back up anymore to me..it's like I never did a reset after I restore my apps with TB..

it's been great.

plus it makes going from one phone to the next painless lol..

Whew, that's a relief! Yes, I usually use rom manager to do the backup, that way I can name them before it starts. But, It's not working that way for me right now.
I do have most of it organized, that took some time, heh heh, it was getting out of hand and when I installed Rubix last time, I removed the card and formatted it to clean house. Then I deleted a ton of stuff I didn't need anymore and that helped a bunch.

also, if anyone knows how to remove screens from the stock moto launcher that would be great. I don't use 7 screens and would like to get rid of a few. I haven't found a way to do that yet.

I always make a nandroid before I do anything that might screw up my current setup. Like I said, I'm a lazy mofo and don't want to go through all the setup again, even if it's just restoring TiBu apps and data.

Plus, I'm all OCD when it comes to being efficient and organized. :p

i dont back up anythign anymore....titanium to uninstall, never back up.
got rid of rom manager....works fine for me.

market fresh installs, i can sbf worst case. clean install everything....good to go.

with Root Explorer you can change the file extension from .apk to .bak which basically turns the app off and makes it a different type of file. Its good cause instead of uninstalling or deleting the app(which you can also do in Root Explorer) it leaves it there so if Motorola decides to send out and OTA, all you need to do is change back to .apk, the hash checks with all go through and you will be able to jump on the OTA train.

Personally I use TiBU to save data for certain apps for rom switching purposes and use RE to remove bloat apps.

up and running, ran deodex.zip file and oc.zip file....waiting on apps to sync.
went to link, got d2 bootstrapper, followed all directions....so far so good. havent got to play yet.

right, but if you freeze the app it does not allow it to access system resources...it disappears from your app drawer...and to "reinstate" the app to full working order you simply press "defrost" and its back...

im just wondering how that is any different than changing the extensions??...when an OTA comes out, you would just defrost all your frozen apps and bam its like stock...

You must be a thrill seeker? Or, you never break anything. :p
Do you use the force remove by exploit in TiBu to remove them?
I have 2 solid backups that I go to. One is Apex and the other is Rubix. All set up just the way I like them. That way if I break something, I can just restore and done.

You obviously have way more experience tweaking Android, so you probably have returning your phone to the way you like it down to a science if something goes wrong. ;)

This is the method I just used. Although, I will check into the TiBu method to remove and if I want to do an OTA I could just SBF back to stock.

yeah, i just uninstall whatever i dont want and forget about it through titanium.
if i flash a new rom, everything i need is there to get on the market and download all my apps back automatically fresh. if it werent there, i have copies of market/z4root/superroot(or whatever its called)/fission261/whatever i need to sbf back etc. on my computer.
i guess it does come with practice. kind of a bummer; i have my back up pro or something and dont even use it, think it was 4 or 5 bucks. oh well.

So, are you that devoted to fission? I've never tried it. Although I did read the fission thread you guys had going for awhile and was about to try it out when I came across the 3.4.2 update. I guess I could just maderstcok back to 340 and give it a shot. It's not like I mess with my phone too much. :p
Lol, I'm pretty sure we all have an app or two that we paid for but don't ever use. Oh well, we are supporting the platform right? :D

lol I think i got like 5 of those apps laying around in my market..anyway I just use TB. It's easier than the root explorer method because it's kinda less steps and faster to me..when I install a new rom, I just install titanium right way, go in there and restore my 98 apps, then freeze what bloat ware I don't want and I'm out of there one time.

either way doing a rom back up is good for those who like to go back and not setup things all over again..like your homescreen widgets..but for me I have 2% space left on my 16gb sd card so it's a no brainer :D ..and I think TB is more of a full proof method, I had times when my back ups of roms got corrupted or failed to restore on my N1.

Anyway I'm happy..everyone have their own way of doing things.

You know I was just kinda thinking that since its not a "final"release it may lack the Motorola "signature" needed for consumer phones. My bad I was over thinking the situation lol.

Can somebody tell me why this file is allowed to touch the kernel?

it has

fiision:
i dont know, i was on it for a long time. then tried some other stuff....like liberty alright. seems like i just keep going back to fission.

install method:
i dont mind taking a long time to install and set up clean/fresh....so not using any backups it takes a while to install. like i just tried 3.4.2 and there were some things i didnt care for or didnt feel like messing with so i just flashed back to fission. i wiped cache, data, battery, delvick; went back in to android and did a factory reset in settings/privacy, did a reboot; then just for fun went in to factory recovery and wiped cache, factory reset (and formatted my sd card). now im putting my stuff back on.
-- i dont think all that is necessary; just how i like to do it.
i really like this 261 version of fission, but i guess ive liked most. seems like 257 was ok too.

-----------------------

on topic i tried out 342 and it did seem to runs smooth. started to remove bloat with titanium and played around flip through screens and adding widgets and such. it didnt seem like it ran any smoother then fission 261 was (but then i realize i may be biased, of course).
i had 342, deodex, the oc zip,
i noticed whenever i went in to rummy oc it rebooted the phone each time. that was the only real issue i noticed.
really seemed o.k. to me, but nothing that blew my mind.
ON THE OTHER HAND; realistically, i should have run it for at least a day or so more and may flash it again some time.
i guess i just didnt feel like it was doing anything amazing (as stock with bloat out) that i was gonna stay stock. went ahead and flashed fission back on for now.
CERTAINLY worth trying if you are having any isses with a custom rom and worth me trying for a longer period again. also if your already running it from the little i played with it; if you have your phone like you want it and its working good, i doubt its worth going through the trouble of flashing over to a custom rom unless you just want to.

im really interested to see what developers make out of this and ready to try any releases from a noteworthy source.

i assume im still on the newer kernal though ive flashed to fission?

Now that's over kill lol

Anyway goto settings then about phone and tell me what does it say for kernel?

So far my only issue with this phone is the keyboard lag when replying in this or any forums..bloody annoying! Anyone can reproduce..
