I hold strong on still saying the best Battery life that I've seen on a device has been a toss up between the Samsung Fascinate and Charge.

Hopefully the Prime follows that Samsung trend!

Out of curiosity what kind of battery life are people looking for from a phone? Why is 6 hours of heavy use not good? Are people really doing intense stuff for 6 hours or more on their phone? We all have different terms for heavy usage, but I dont see how its possible to browse the net or play a game for more than an hour or two before you go cross-eyed.

I honestly dont see how we're ever going to get "acceptable" battery life if they havent even perfected it in laptops without going with extended batteries.

Enjoy the technology. You're only fooling yourself, otherwise. IMHO

Agree my fascinate could go a day and a half with pretty good use and I was just saying what the so called "testers" were saying the bionic had such great battery life. I mean since Blackmanx no longer works for verizon what if the version he is testing is the gsm version and battery on the verizon version will be worse? It wouldn't surprise me if that's the case.

Given the currently technologies, I would set Bionic as my baseline expectation on battery life of dual core/4G phones. Anything better than that is bonus for me. That is until 2nd gen SoC LTE radio chips arrive.

I want to be able to leave my home for work at 7:30am, use my phone for 3 or 4 calls, check email, facebook, twitter hourly, a dozen text messages, an hour of web surfing and make it home by 5:30pm and still have enough battery to make phone calls in case of emergency. All of this without having to be tethered to a cord.

10 hours with moderate use and room to spare. Oh, and this without having to go into settings and turn features on and off all damn day! That's the argument I can't stand..."just turn 4G radio off". How is that a real "solution"? Oh, it's MY job to fix the battery issue...me...the guy that just paid $300 for the thing and is paying over $100 a month for a phone plan.

So that's what I think we should reasonably expect from OEM's in regard to battery performance. I know their not the same thing, but I am so jealous of iPhone owners and their amazing battery life.

Motorola and Samsung Android phones have been better in the battery life dept vs. HTC for the most part, so the Prime shouldnt be too much of a problem.

I think the TBolt was a first to LTE victim....that and HTC over tha past year just seems to miss the mark with battery life. When they do try to hit the mark....they ship the phone with a tiny ass battery...so they still miss the mark.

^^^^^ Which is why I can't even consider Vigor. TBolt has left a very bad taste in my mouth. Another reason why black_man_x's battery comments bothered me so much.

I'm actually pretty upset the way he dropped this bomb and is now trying to explain his way out of it. Call it as it is, dude! If it's bad, say so and stand by your words. I wouldn't be surprised at all if he got whacked on the knuckles for dogging the battery life and is now having to do some damage control.

I probably have no business owning a VZW LTE device right now, battery life is a MAJOR factor for me. The tech is just not there yet...except for iPhones that is. And yes, they aren't LTE.

Until the 28nm SoC's come out next year, you're not going to get miraculous battery life... and even then, if you're downloading FOUR GIGABYTES of data a day on LTE you're gonna blow through any battery fast!

If he can get 6 hours with that kind of load on it, I think I'll be good to go for most of the day

Even though battery life is really unsure of right now, will there be an extended battery? Got one for my dinc after a week of buying it and it still will last all day no problem. I don't want to carry extra batteries or have to worry about charging.

Well, I will say this, which alot of people dont want to hear...The TB was delayed mostly because of terrible battery issues, and even with the delays, the Outted units with that childs play battery were terrible...so this may be one of the reasons why we're still in the dark till next week.

In the end, we all wont really know until we have it in our hands. The one thing we have on our sides is Samsung Phones have been pretty good as of late as far as battery usage goes..If this was for an HTC device, I wouldnt even be here right now...

Because you get the best of both worlds. You get 4G LTE performance, but still have the option to use 3G to conserve battery if needed.

it's not really the best of both worlds if you can't use it how it is intended to be used simple as that.

There are battery saver apps that are simple enough to use that help substantially. Two words, Juice Defender. If configured properly it significantly increases battery life with little to no interference to the user experience. The biggest gain of battery life will still be when you're not using the phone though.

Just my opinion, and I clearly can't back it up with proof, but I call BS on bmx's claim...after the bomb he dropped...that he got 6 hours with heavy use.

First he said the battery life sucked. Then he said he wasn't joking about what he said. Then after a firestorm of message board and Twitter vitriol, he makes the 6 hour/heavy use "claim". Which is it Panda genius? I swear, I think he stepped in it with Google and he is back tracking now.

I am on thunderbolt, coming from incredible, so no stranger to bad battery life, but I rarely have a problem. Now I am slated to get LTE coverage 11/17 (YES!) so I am sure I will have to make an adjustment or two. From my two experiences on LTE when traveling, 4 hours of heavy usage and my Thunderbolt is done. So 6 hours of heavy usage on LTE with the NP is not too bad, if that extra 50% translates to wi-fi and 3G battery life as well, that is actually pretty good IMO.

If you need really good battery life out of your phone ... because you're gonna be on the device all day / night - get a tablet. The tablet experience is great compared to a phone (imo).

But seriously, I'm only half kidding ... i bought a WIFI galaxy tab 10.1, which i now use when i'm away from my computer. the tab has excellent battery life, and because i'm not on my phone all day ... the battery life on my droid X is fantastic - i don't even think about charging it.

I will use the phone's 3G hotspot if i am away from WIFI (no LTE in my area yet).

Yeah, but what about a day trip to the Pumpkin patch or to an amusement park with the kids, Botanical gardens, etc. etc.

I only mention those things b/c I was in the same boat as you and just recently I went on those trips where I didn't have access and I was quite envious of my wife and her I-phone that had more battery left after using pretty heave with pics., some video (which came out amazing BTW), after my phone charged the whole way home.

That's strange. Once you register a WiFi source in your phone/tablet, it should be able to pick up wifi signal fairly quick when it wakes up from standby. You may want to check WiFi sleep policy setting and set it to "never sleep", but then it will use a little more battery power.

I have Eee Pad Transformer and use for web surfing/emails at home. It really has all day lasting battery power. But its 10.1" size/weight is not as portable as phone. I think 7" honeycomb tablet like new Tab 7 plus is a good option.
