9/30 - New Maintanence Sprint UPDATE!! DI18!!

Well, my thoughts on this are that they won't uncap everyone at the same time. It would make it too obvious that they were intentionally capping the speed at the network level. Instead, they can roll out a "fix" (that is likely a placebo and only fixes a couple of minor things), while uncapping folks in the background at the network level and claiming that the OTA fix they sent out is what solved the problem.

Maybe I'm just jumping to conclusions but if this is true, it would be pretty deceptive of Sprint. They would be basically escaping blame for the (possible) fact that they have been lying to Epic owners from the start.

Hello and thank you fellow conspiracy theorist, I like the way you think.

Methinks the announcement of said update was just a bogus stunt to make us happy for another day. We fell for it!

hhhmmm thinking out loud..

sorry epic owners.. your 30 day was up a few days ago..
We are confident the issues you have will be fix via software updates as soon as we have them available from samsung.

please understand and wait.. and wait .. and .....

Actually, two updates withing the first 5 weeks is actually better than HTC's track record, not to mention the Moment had it's first update sooner after its release than the Hero did.

i hope u are right... i am trying to decide between EVO and EPIC...
If EPIC issues can be fixed.. It might be an easier choice for me. But I am not getting good and fuzzy feelings from Samsung!

Time will tell.

and HTC is any better? The whole 30fps issue was just handled oh so well. Deny, deny, two step, shuffle back, slight admission, time passes, people complain, more people complain and almost four months later it gets a fix.

umm, do you see an update? so far there has been one update, and I don't really consider that an update, that was to put samsungs media hub on the phone so they can make more money, oh and imagine the fact that it screwed up battery life even more. So in actuality, there are NO updates yet. And with the way they are going, it really looks like there never will be until maybe froyo, and that won't happen until phones are running gingerbread.

Because you know?

HTC's fixes at least actually fix things (unlike, say, the general Galaxy S GPS "fix"). No, HTC didn't handle the 30FPS cap terribly well - but they're not known for promising updates that then never arrive. In this case they said "we can't fix it" and then could and it.

This is much better than the other way around ... since you weren't left in a position holding on to the device if getting more than 30 FPS was an issue for you!

Samsung has the opposite issue to deal with ... all promise, no delivery.

It doesn't really matter what any other vendor does though. If you have a Samsung Epic 4G, then it's what Samsung/Sprint does that should concern you. HTC could be the worst vendor in the world, but that means nothing when you hit the end of your return period on a Samsung device with promised, but not-delivered, fixes.

This REALLY feels like a case of giving people enough hope so they'll keep the phone past the 30 days return period. Maybe they really do have a patch for the 3G upload speed issue, maybe even the GPS issue, won't know if they do/if it WORKS until it ships of course ... which has been delayed right at the 11th hour ...

I think that every one with their conspiracy theories are correct! Samsung is not going release any more updates as soon as we pass the 30 day period. Why would they. They already have our money. The whole company is going to close down since all the employee's are so rich off the Epic, there is no need to work anymore. They're even going to scrap the Galaxy Pad since they are rolling in too much dough already. Come on, yea they have made mistakes with the Moment. The hardware wasn't up specs. At sometime you have to cut bait. They know it was going to give them a black eye. Samsung has a multitude of electronics, and for the most part, they are all pretty good. I've got a 55 inch Samsung TV that cost like $1700 and a Sony 40inch Bravia which cost the same (bought 2 months apart) and the Sammy is way better. Think about all the other crappy phones that you have had over the years. I had a HTC Touch, it was horrible, but I would still by an Evo if I wanted one. We are going to get our update, we are going to get 2.2. I'm confident in this because Sprint and Samsung printed that we were. They blamed the delay of this last update on an "administrative issue prevented Google from releasing the update as we had planned". Sounds to me like it might have been an issue with Google, and they were just not going to point the finger. When it is all said and done, it only cost $200 dollars to get out of the Sprint contract. I know that nobody wants to pay that, but when put into perspective, it isn't the end of the world, and Sprint knows that. They need our business.

Just installed the update. Initial results are good. Not in a great 3G area, but ULs are 250+ whereas before they were 160 at BEST.

Some people just aren't happy unless they have something to complain about. Not even worth entertaining. If you have they negative gut feeling then return the phone, move on and quit whining about theories. Four plus devices across all carriers plus abondonment of other mobile OS's on top of major bucks invested in marketing would just spell idiocy to just ignore highly publicized and apparent issues.

Have you tried using your phone while uploading something or doing the upload test, after this update? Im wondering if the phone lag was fixed as well because I can hardly use the phone while uploading.

nice, i can start hitting the update firmware button again. funny why sprint hasn't updated their bulletin that it's being rolled out officially now.

I did return the phone (I'll buy another if all the issues get resolved), and I'm not whining - just pointing out that Samsung don't have a good track record with this sort of thing and that it's irrelevant what any other vendor does in relation to getting the Epic issues resolved.

Not sure what the abandonment of other mobile OS comment refers to, they've got their own proprietary OS and are licensing Windows Phone 7 with announcments that they plan to release several phones on that platform this year and worldwide.

Not like Samsung bet the farm on Android here ...

Sorry, I was thinking of another company that mentioned they weren"t pursuing wp7 at this time. But multiple handsets, a tablet, worldwide marketing campaign? That's not betting the farm? And their track record with smartphones (palm and winmob) are actually very good. Depends on where you start and stop your history.

The behold ii and moment got left in the dust because they needed to. No different than the hero or eris with htc. No one is supporting the 1st gen phones anymore. And many point out the Instinct as a Samsung debacle. Sprint should take the blame on that. They hyped it as an iphone killer and created the consumer expectation. If they didn't do that it would've been just another crap touchscreen feature phone and not under the level of scrutiny it received.

Can you give me a reproducible scenario so we're both testing the same way? I've not encountered that issue before.

Othan1, does the phone sleep properly now?

Been messing with the phone and have removed several apps so I don't think I'd be a good candidate for results in that area. I assume you mean the lack of sleep due to the DRM software. If so, I've removed that already. :/
