9/30 - New Maintanence Sprint UPDATE!! DI18!!

I've seen reports of folks getting better upload speeds without installing any update today. Sounds kinda fishy to me....as if Sprint has been throttling the speed from the network side of things rather than it being an issue with the Epic. This would jive with other posts I've seen about other aspects of this issue and what one fellow on the official Sprint forum said about his conversation with Samsung tech support (they claimed it was NOT an issue they were working on and was a SPRINT issue!). Interesting....

Here's the post from AndroidCentral:

3G Upload Speeds Uncapped W/O update? - Android Forums

The guy never shows an actual speed test picture, I think it's a fake claim till I see actual proof of it.

For anybody that doesn't want to wait for the update, its already on XDA developers.. I already applied it, and the upload is great now :)

I'm pretty sure this fixed the battery issues that the last update created. I installed it 10 min ago and let the phone sit for a while and it is only showing 21% time awake. Before this update, it would be like 99.1%.

Can you give me a reproducible scenario so we're both testing the same way? I've not encountered that issue before.

Ok here is a scenario that I did. Try running speedtest.net speedtest and when the phone starts doing the upload part, hit the home button and try to navigate through the homescreens. Mine lags really bad and I can hardly switch between the home screens. I also tried navigating while uploading a picture to facebook and encountered the same lag.

I think the overclock kernel is keeping me from having much higher uploads, was next to a sprint tower (full signal) and my avg was 170, but I did break the 150 cap...lol.

The Update works Great:

Ok to my answer my own question, yeah the lag goes away after the update. I just did the manual update and I went from like 140 up to about 550-600 and the phone lag went away :)

I havent gotten or installed any updates but as of last night my upload speeds have been averaging 400-600kbs. They must have fixed something, but it wasn't on my phone's end.

It gets rolled out across the country in stages. I was always a day behind for many updates here in Philly. I decided to do it manually do.Firon over at XDA extracted the update from his cache and uploaded it[/url. You can download it into the root directory of your sd card, change the name to update.zip, boot into recovery mode and apply update. Go into recovery from the phone powered off, hit vol down, camera button and power at the same time. Boots into recovery, choose apply update.zip, and let it run.

It's the genuine update so you're not doing anything custom or what not.

Just tested 4g for the first time:

3129/1005
3329/1001
3292/1002

not too shabby.

The update was just pushed out to my phone OTA about 15 minutes ago.
For future refs, since a lot of users don't hav their location on their profile, it helps if u say where u r when gettin these|any updates...

I got mine from the xda site but I'm jus sayin in general that it should noted where u r when gettin them (especially if u don't hav ur city in ur profile)

funny thing, i was on the phone this morning with sprint tech support to activate my airrave. i also asked him about why i'm not getting the OTA update and he said he doesn't think there is one available.

i didn't get into it with him, but he did say that that epic must be on the sprint network (3g/4g) for the phone to receive notification of the OTA. once you acknowledged it, the download can then be made through wifi.

my 3g is pretty shoddy at the house so i'm chalking it up to that's the reason why i'm not getting the OTA, yet.
