Root a little help needed please.

Flash the custom rom above in recovery. (download to sd then choose option in recovery )

Then you have a rooted, non Orange rom that can be your backup. Then experiment with different roms from the link a few posts up.


The good thing about these roms is they are all rooted, so even if the way you rooted is dodgy it will overide it with the new rom you flash
 
Since I was cited above, let me just say that I agree with Matt. Now that you have CWM and superuser you are rooted. An RUU would undo that, and it's been enough hassle to get this far that if it were me I'd not want to do it again.

If you install a rooted stock ROM, such as one of teppic74's ROMs, you will have stock HTC software, unbranded, but also rooted and supporting extras (optional) that stock does not. That does what you wanted (debranding) with some bonuses and no downside.
 
hello, yes i have some time now, just going to study what you have said and make sure i am completely sure about what i am going to do. hopefully, pray pray, i will shortly have a result!.

thanks, just one other thing,

i still have the gold card on my SD card. I dont need it now but is it worth takind off and keeping.

also am i correct with the methods i outlined.

i realise i can go to your guides but trying to save some time.

golf card is irrelevent.
tepiic doesnt have a list of roms
he has 2 roms. a froyo stock rooted rom and the GB one listed on the link above.

all you need to do put rom on sdcard, boot to recovery, backup the current rom
wipe data/factory reset from recovery
click flash zip from sdcard, choose the rom. flash
flash any addons you want after that (read the requirements for each add on)

oh dear, any ideas on next move.

i have made the backup succesfully and know i could restore but will anything be better. i just right clicked the file and sent it to phone to install it. the file came from some upload site, from link, and paused shortly after starting download. dont know if that may account for it.

you will still be able to boot. download it again and save it to pc first then copy it over to the sdcard and try again

hes using multiupload so try a different provider on multiupload

also are you getting any errors in the recovery before you try flashing?
 
Look at the size of the download. If it's under 100mb it probably hasn't downloaded completely. I know this has happened to me in a couple of roms before.
 
As a base you don't need to install anything other than the rom. In the future you will probably want to partition your sd card and get a2sd+ working, but let's get a rom working first.

hi - you gotta try dGB11 imo :) it is my fave so far - 2nd fave is cm7 .....until ics stuff comes out that is :D

wow stuey - thats a big post :)
dGB11 (not its full name - its the date i think it was released) is in the thread of that name on here - normally it is around the top of the desire root forum

yeah i agree - it is very confusing when you start out - took me ages to build up the courage to go for it - i find the peeps here are normally very helpful, but they can forget how confused a noob is i guess, as they know all the stuff in great depth

The important things are to read
The sticky threads and use advanced search. You can also select search this forum using forum tools perhaps?
 
some good ideas
in this section at least we dont tell people to use search too much as im aware search can bring up loads of random things that are not directly related.
what we do say is to use the stickies as we have documented nearly every eventuality in order of relevence so that people can read them and go through them and if they get stuck they know what point they got stuck at and "should" find an answer.

as you can see by this thread alone, we dont mind helping people along their journey at all and in some ways i personally take a lot of pride in giving as much solid advise i can while still making sure people reference they guides we created as its important for your own learning to read them.

glad you got there in the end and enjoy the new lease of life your phone will have
