All Things Froyo

I got sick of waiting for AT&T/Samsung to get their crap together for my FroYo upgrade. It's ridiculous. And since my six month warranty is finally up, its enough for me to ease my paranoia and make the transition to rooting and flashing a ROM (besides that, the techie in me has been itching to get down to the nuts and bolts on this thing).

My question is what ROMs do you guys most highly recommend or prefer? Which developers should I favor or avoid as far as ROMs. I need something that is perfectly stable. Also, any idea when we can expect a stable gingerbread ROM to be available, or are we gonna have to wait for the European Galaxy S's to get it before we'll get a modified ROM that will be close to stability?

I'm in the same boat. As soon as things settle down in my office in about 3 weeks I'm on board with rooting and flashing. At this time, Andromeda seems to attract me as it is based on the Armani device, which I've heard is the closest to the Captivate as can be for now

No it's definitely going to be released on February 31st, actually you know I might be wrong... it could actually be Feb 30.. not sure. Someone will have to find the link for that.

if this is really true, i wouldnt bother puting a custom rom on my phone. where did you find this? i spoke with AT&T tech support today and they said they had no info or date!>>!>

oFUNGUSo- if you are seriously asking that please pm me your address. i insist on sending you a calendar...

im not exactly getting the joke about the calendar. but i suppose it safe to assume that expecting an update.....ever.....is a joke.

Speculation does nothing but add to post counts. It'll come when out comes, in the meantime there's many ways to update and get the features you want-but none will fix the inherent flaws of the Captivate. Lovely screen, though....

Rooted and flashed to Cognition 3.04 last night. Figured I'd start with Cognition since that was the one that the handy youtube tutorial was made for, I'll give that a spin for a little while (and try to iron out some of the kinks in my process) and then I'll start flashing to all sorts of other ROMs.

I am no longer beholden to Samsung and AT&T. Now, once motorola gets some sense and decides to make a wifi only Xoom (or LG makes a wifi only G-Slate), I'll be able to use my phone as a mobile AP without AT&T charging extra.

Congratulations, and welcome to the dark side. Or is it the bright side?

Anyway, I understand your desire to follow the video tutorial to the letter, including flashing the featured ROM. After you've played with Cognition and you acquire the flash itch, I highly recommend Serendipity. Fine ROM, and fine support within related thread. Good folks.

Isn't it wonderful not having to wonder "where's Froyo?"

A friend called and said he got Froyo through Keis Mini last night. I'm thinking he has Cellular South.

Try this might help I was able to upgrade both of my samsung to 2.2.
spend 2 days to get this going after reading all kinds of Forum, how you should do this and do that, nothing works at all. I down loaded the samsung kies from uk version 1.5 and it work only for media and SD. also try to download PDAnet and still crap, none of this work at all because it does not reconize the driver. I have a Lenovo T410 labtop and a Tmobile Galaxy S SGH-T959. was tired of running around so I came accross this one down load. come to find out that the phone version was a 2.1, all you have to do is down load this driver to update your phone version to 2.2
Link here

Free Download Samsung Vibrant SGH-T959 PC Kies for Windows 7/Vista/XP:
Down load this link and when install completed it will reboot your computer, after restart open the program Kies Mini and it will run an update, after up date is completed. connect your phone go to Application and go to USB setting and select samsung kies, then hook up your phone via USB, once it connected it will show update version for you phone, Click on update yes. Note it will take between 5 to 15 mins to complete the process. once it is done downloading and uploading the phone will restart. just follow the promp.

Now your all done with the new version, go to setting, then to wireless and network, then you now will see Mobile AP and active it, It will turn to a wireless modem that you can connect up to 5 device. Now you can go to your labtop and select the wifi option it should say android#### click and connect to. now you got internet. Screw all the other download crap.
HOPE this HELPSSSSS.
I am from Illinois chicago with Tmobile if this helps.
