All Things Froyo

I just installed Paragon RC5.0 and very happy with it.

+1. Got tired of the wait for official 2.2. I have had Paragon rc5.1 and it rocks! I was originally just going to root and backup using titanium backup last Friday. After a few user errors got my backup done, then decided I might as well try Froyo, without the bloat.

Watched the xda videos and had a smooth upgrade. Phone is faster, gps works, bluetooth handsfree works. Love the voice speak now integration with the new swype. Nice rom. Looking forward to rc6.0.

woot! 2.2.1 Froyo-XXJPU. Coming from Eclair, it feels like a new phone. So much faster, even the Yahoo Mail app runs perfect and FAST. No more waiting and waiting. I loved this phone before, now I am a real fanboy.

Hi,
Have begun reading up on the rooting/flashing, and had a quick question.
Can I perform the ROM updates with a MAC (has anyone succesfully done this)? I see references to certain backup and recovery tools (ODIN3, Titanium, etc), and it's not obvious to me if they run on my PC or on the phone.
I can run windows in VMware (Fusion v2.0), but not sure if I need windows to run natively on the PC. If using a MAC is known to not work, I'll have to get my hands on a Windows box somewhere..

Thanks, Tony.

Hey Tony,

You'll probably get a better response to the specifics of flashing a new rom over in the "all things root" sub forum.

This is the rom I figured I'd jump to if I decide to take the plunge. Good to have the feedback.

I dunno....I still think I am justing to go ahead and root the damn thing....Tired of this cloak and dagger crap of Samsung's.

I would...I did. I don't care what they do now, I'm sticking to custom from now on. I can hear the wailing now once froyo is released and the crippling they've been working on is revealed ;)

For those who have looked forward to Froyo for so long and haven't wanted (for whatever reason) to adopt a custom ROM - good for you. I hope the wait has proven to be worthwhile and that your expectations are fulfilled.

That's what I am worried about as well. I don't want to lose functions on my phone just because I went with the release version. I am happy with the custom rom I am on now.

Yeah the offical update is not out yet, even though many are already on froyo via custom roms. I guess we are just no paitient at all.

I'm going to continue to wait it out. I just don't think I have enough skill/ knowledge to be messing around with rooting my phone. Other than upgrading, I don't know what else I would be able to do with it.
