Android 2.0.1 Findings!!!

i'm having issues mounting USB when connected to my home computer(Windows 7 64bit) but i can connect fine at work(XP Pro SP3 32bit). anyone w/ Win7 USB connection issues?

i was having those same problems and fixed it by making sure to unmount the Droid in windows (once it's plugged in there will be an icon in your system tray that lets you unmount it) every time i wanted to disconnect it. you might have to reboot your computer once to get it working again and then always make sure to unmount.

i've never had to do this with USB drives before...not sure why the droid is different.

My physical keyboard will not light up at all with the update! I tried switching to auto-brightness and also tried different lighting levels, but it just stays dark. Anyone find a fix?

I just did the manual update as well. I am noticing that the issue of the left channel speaker clipping and popping at full volume is resolved. But, now it seems there is skipping or jumping of songs while they are playing and you are doing other things like switching back and forth between applications. Oh yeah, yeah, this was painful to type on the Droid because of the irritating lag! What's up with his crap?

So far I've only noticed this in the FeedR application, but the font size is notably smaller. Text size doesn't seem to have changed in any other applications. Has anyone else noticed any changes to font sizes? FeedR doesn't seem to include the ability to make text size changes and now it's a little too small for my tired eyes.

FeedR isn't the only one. Same thing happened in mine with NewsRob. I had to zoom in to read some of my feeds this morning.

Only thing I can find with that being similar is they're both RSS readers. Any other people with different RSS readers having the same issue on 2.0.1?

I manually updated.

The SSL issue blocking attachments in your exchange account is fixed! I just got my droid yesterday & about returned it because of this issue. Glad I didn't have to wait too long for the fix!

Have you tried Touchdown Exchange? I was disappointed by the built in Exchange support but Touchdown fixed all my Exchange woes!

I am having trouble with my notifications. They are going off correctly when they should but I can no longer change the notification sound. I had it set to Kzurb Sonar before the update, and I changed it to Droid after the update, but Kzurb Sonar still goes off when I get a text. Tried changing it a couple times with no luck. Anyone else have this issue?

I call BS on this...I have tried the same thing. Sometimes 2.0 was quicker. but 2.0.1 is always smoother. Pulling down notification tab is significantly faster on 2.0.1. Scrolling in menus/contracts is smoother on 2.0.1 also. And when I press unlock button screen lights up instantly...i mean maybe 2.0.1 opens in .15 miliseconds and 2.0 opened in .07 milliseconds but either way i cannot tell the difference.
Call BS all you want, heres my official video w/ the unofficial testing method (pressing both buttons at approximately the same time :o )
my sisters (2.0) on the left, mine (2.0.1) on the right. You can also see the screen start dim (after it finally opens) and then get brighter

edit: both were after a fresh reboot, so only the stock apps should be running

Compared mine with the video. Mine is faster than your 2.0 with 2.0.1. This may be happening due to apps, home replacement, or services running in the background.

You need to update the usb drivers. Go to device manager and it should show your phone with a yellow "!" you need to get the drivers from (i have to go find the url). That fixed my problem with win 7.

Gonzoguy,

I just Factory reset my 2.0.1 droid to validate if it was an App issue, but the browser lag still occurs.

That's odd. I'm using Windows 7 Pro 64 bit and I just plugged the phone in and hit "mount" on the phone. From that point, it worked. Similarly, to dismount I select "dismount" on the phone and unplug it. It shows up just like a flash drive for me -- no manual driver install necessary.

I have the browser lag issue on forums. Check out the forum there is a thread on this issue. As for the lock screen nate i do not have this delay.

After i manually update i cant open Gallery it says Application is not installed on your phone. anyone else also sometimes when i open slider the keyboard wont light up
just delete the short cut and re apply it to your home screen

I received my update this morning, and honestly, I don't really see that much of a difference in the "smoothness" of the OS. Still, I love this phone and I any issues I've had, I've found and app that fixes things (i.e. exchange issues were solve with Touchdown). I used to have an Omnia, and I thought the Omnia 2 would be the end-all-be-all until I heard of the Droid. Got the Droid and then had a look at the Omnia 2 and it's not even in the same league as the Droid. Update or no-update, this phone makes me smile and give me a way to waste an absurd amount of time playing with it:)

It will still mount but to root the phone you need to update the drivers.

I'm running Win7 32 bit and having issues with OS recognizing Droid. When you say click on "mount" on the phone, where would this be? Are you talking about mount on the computer or the physical phone? Thanks guys. Loving 2.0.1 btw...definitely quicker and smoother, although I didn't really have a problem with it being slow in the first place. Awesome phone just got "awesomer" :)

I think this update has fixed the hiccups I was getting with using bluetooth for music in my car. So far today I have received no hiccups. Before it would do it 3-5 times a commute.

I hope this is true.

I see. I was under the impression that the original poster just wanted access to his SD card.

I can't speak for everyone, but when I plug my phone into the computer, I'm prompted by the phone if I want to mount. Sometimes I'll accidentally hide it in which case you just slide down the notification bar and select USB.

Hope that helps

Back to the original topic ... :-)
I found that the scrolling through lists (i.e. contacts, music) is smoother. I don't know if this is the placebo effect or just a byproduct of restarting the phone after 600 hours of up time. I'm pleased with it either way. The home screen still stutters as it used to.

Also, one thing that I haven't seen documented yet is that the music widget now has a "next track" button. I'm pretty sure it wasn't there before. It's much nicer controlling it from the home screen rather than opening the application and doing it.
